The best idea ever!

I was hoping they would do this...that is, put star trek on DVD, and I hope they do it with Voyager also.
In any case, Star Trek has always been a favorite of mine, I'd sneak down after my bedtime to watch it with my dad. At first, I despised DS9 for taking the place of Next Gen reruns (I'm just too young to have seen it originally) But before long, I became obsessed with DS9, and it is currently my favorite of the Star Trek series
I love this so much!!!

The wait is over!

I have been a fan of Sliders for a long time, and still popped in my VHS tapes from time to time. I've been looking for it on DVD for years, and screamed my head off when I saw the ad in Entertainment Weekly. I'm thrilled to read so many positive reviews from other fans. I knew I wasn't alone, but it's great to know others were waiting just as impatiently as I was. The price isn't a deterrent, I've been waiting to long for this.

I agree with one reviewer that once the show went to SciFi it started to go downhill. Actually, that's why Arturo (JRD) left, the scripts weren't as well written as they once were and I don't think the new writers or producers cared as much. It's sad to look at early episodes and know that Arturo died and Wade got captured by the Kromags and Quinn and his brother ended up trapped in some kind of middle dimension between worlds.

I knew things were bad when the 5th season started and Jerry O'Connell was a no show without any kind of wrap-up whatsoever.

Anyway, the first three seasons are the best (IMO) because they showcased the group dynamic wonderfully, the stories were good, special effects were great, and the worlds were interesting not only on the surface, but they helped to intergrate the characters into more of a family unit.

They learned things about themselves, about what they could accomplish together, alone and that friendships are important and can create a very strong bond, sometimes stronger than blood. I loved the premise that these four strangers (okay, Quinn, Wade and Prof. Arturo already knew each other), could become so close.

I loved their inner circle and how they met others and temporarily let them into the fold, but ultimately it was all about the four of them. Which is why I was so uncomfortable with Maggie and Quinn's brother. They felt like intrusions, even though it took me A LONG TIME to warm up to her.

This show was fantastic and vastly undervalued and under appreciated. I look at my tapes and remember that it was on after The X-Files which is probably where it picked up its biggest fan base. I followed them until the fifth season, but sorry, I didn't want to invest into new characters, but I still loved Remy.

Speaking of him, it's also great to see how he was transformed from the Stepin' fetchit comic relief, to an intelligent, helpful, devoted member of the group and a friend to all. He represented those of us with no special skills or 'brain busters' who truly cared about his friends and would risk his life for them. I LOVE SLIDERS!

Recommended Episodes to watch:

Pilot, Eggheads, Fever, The King is Back, Last Days, Luck of the Draw, Gillian of the Spirits, Love Gods, Post Traumatic Slide Syndrome, The Young and the Relentless and Invasion.

Laverne And Shirley! Need I Say Anymore?

Probably one of the funniest duo's in comedy since Laurel and Hardy or Abbott and Costello. The pairing of Penny Marshall and Cindy Williams was an instant success that won many fans. I have waited a long time for this, and I only hope that Paramount doesn't drop the project after season 1.

The DVD's are nice and clear. Superb transfers and good sound. I was astounded at how clear the picture was. Almost as if these videos were being shown for the first time! I couldn't detect any flaws at all, other than than a few sound glitches now and then, but nothing major.

Please, do us a favour and release all 8 seasons of Laverne and Shirley... I haven't seen some of these episodes in YEARS! My personal opinion is either release the series in its entirety or don't even bother. The whole purpose of these DVD re-issues is for to us to enjoy all those golden memories again right? Then do us a favour Paramount and release EVERY episode that ever aired. TV Land was only airing certain episodes, and then showing them out of sequence. I was not impressed. So please, let us enjoy all these old episodes again, complete and uncut, the way we remember seeing them.

Thank-you Laverne & Shirley for all the laughs!

Finally!

I was elated to see the series was coming out on DVD, and now that it's here, it was definitely worth the wait. Apart from being a great season of The X-Files, this set has all the extras one could ask for. Not to mention that watching the series on DVD looks SOOO much better than when the episodes originally aired on Fox.

Pearl Harbor - movie DVD cover picture
A theatrical masterpiece!

Most people who were not there talk about Pearl Harbor and say what a tragedy it was. We look at statistics and possibly view photographs of what happened on December 7, 1941, and said how awful that must have been. In most cases, we feel for the people who died on that day, but this was the first time I actually felt like I was standing on the decks of those anchored ships with them.
This film puts you in the middle of the attack with astounding visuals and encompassing sound. The story presents you with characters that you can empathize with. It makes you realize that these events were not just numbers or pictures in a book, they were young Americans who got caught in the middle of a world conflict before they, or their leaders, were ready for it.
This story has been given to us almost sixty years later, during a holiday weekend that is meant to honor the men and women like the ones who died in battles such as this one. The film is presented to us as a remembrance for those who were there and did not survive the day.
As I said, almost sixty years have elapsed since that day in 1942. The technology that brought these events to film was, probably, nothing more than a dream at that time. It was the creative vision of this film's actors and production company that made the technology tell such a powerful story.
To use an old clich?, a picture is worth a thousand words and, as some may already know, a movie presents us with twenty-four pictures every second. Multiply that into a 165-minute movie, and you get more words than I can possibly present to you in the small space that I have been provided here. All I can tell you is to celebrate the bravery of those who were at Pearl Harbor by going to see this movie. Open yourself to the images and sounds that are presented to you.
And, never forget the anguish that the whole world, not just America, was going through during this tragic period in human history.

One of my ALL TIME Favorites!

Great acting and writing make this not just another 'holiday' movie. I never get tired of watching this one. It is hilariously funny yet filled with real warmth in the characters. You really get to like them both and appreciate the terribly awful but funny situations they go through. If you haven't seen this one, you should. It is on my top ten list of all time favorites!
