Really Impressed

This DVD has been indispensable to me. I have worked on the French language with my daughter and she has done beautifully with this DVD. I have also used this DVD with children who already spoke French. They all loved it. The vocabulary is directed at preschool age children. I suspect that the editors just know how to hold a child's attention, the happy children we see are just charming (and from many races too, which I LOVE!) and the music is fun too.

The best teen movie ever

Okay, this is my favorite movie of all time, so maybe I'm a little biased, but its a wonderful film with some wonderful performances by a trio of the best 80s young stars. I won't say teen stars cause Andrew McCarthy and Jon Cryer were in their 20s, but Molly Ringwald was actually 18 at filming. This movie takes what could have been a somewhat formulaic plot; girl from wrong side of the tracks and rich boy with stupid yuppie friends fall in love...and makes the most of it, adding incredible characterizations to bring the story to life. Biggest props to Jon Cryer (Who, by the way, is NOT the poor mans Matthew Broderick!) who gives the most heart-wrenching performance. By the end of the movie, everyone I know is digging Duckie. Molly Ringwald, always a pleasure, is at her absolute best in this film. I'm not normally a fan of Andrew McCarthy, but he's perfect in this film as the dreamy rich boy. Watch for Andrew Dice Clay, James Spader, Annie Potts, and Gina Gershon. Kickin' soundtrack, and personally I cry every time I see this film. Its seriously awesome, and a modern classic.

An overlooked flick

The Matchmaker is a movie that snuck into theatres and then just as quickly onto DVD. It is really under rated! The sly, yet self deprecating humor of Janeane Garofalo is balanced well with the acidic tone of Dennis Leary, who plays her self absorbed boss. This is a romantic comedy for those of us who DON"T want to be Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman...... and for people who don't want just a romantic comedy. A thinking person's romance and sweet tale of finding what you want, no matter where it takes you.

Star Wars - Episode II, Attack of the Clones (Full Screen Edition) - movie DVD cover picture
Attack on the box office....

Well, the waiting is over and the highly anticipated second chapter in the set of prequels in the Star Wars series is here. Episode II is a faced paced ride that gives the fans some of the pieces of the puzzle that will eventually fall into place in the origin of Darth Vader. In "Attack of the Clones", Obi-wan Kenobi is now a Jedi master training his apprentice, Anakin. Amidala, now a senator, has survived an attempted assassination and the story follows the two Jedi knights as one tries to solve the mystery of Amidala's attacker and the other protects the former Queen of Naboo. This story incorporates the romance of Amidala and Anakin and the sinister plot involving the building of a Clone army to serve the dark, evil Lord Sidius. I won't give away any more plot points but there is plenty of action and amazing special effects that are a pleasure for the eye. The fight with Yoda and Count Dooku is a reward for the legion of fans that adore the little green one. The last 50 minutes or so will blow you away with the amount of special effects. It is well worth seeing---worth seeing more than once. I liked Episode I but I do think this one was faster paced and a better movie. I think Star Wars fans will most definitely be pleased and other movie goers, as well, will enjoy this film. Whets the appetite for the final film!

...Golden Palm winner

Extraordinary bleak take on dark and yearning co-dependency. Wonderfully written and expertly directed. Highly authentic characterizations. Slovin's first feature won Ft. Lauderdale's Golden Palm Award (Ft. Lauderdale Film Festival), and will surely be featured in retrospective repertory before 2030.

A Great Film from a talented Director

I first saw this movie as part of Drug Awareness week here at the university. I entered the theater expecting a good the credits rolled, I found myself staring at the screen, my chest aching and my hands shaking. I am not exaggerating. This is the most intense, emotional film I have ever seen. Aronofsky is brilliant. Ellen Burstyn gives the most powerful monologue on film. The DVD is a must as it contains commentary from both he and directory of photography Matthew Labatique.

"One Classy Flick"

Although this doesn't star the Affleck I have grown to like so much, the Kevin Smith Affleck(which I do prefer), and a usually annoying Paltrow, I thoroughly enjoyed this movie. I guess you could say it's a Romance movie, the one thing I generally try to avoid, I loved this. Affleck certainly is a great actor, this is one great acting job, just below "Chasing Amy" and "the part he was born to play" in "Boiler Room".
One thing I liked so much in this movie is the storyline. It's not a bull-$h!t story like most romance movies, it's actually got a good story that might actually happen as opposed to the crappy romance stories about horses and bridges in madison county. The start of the movie is very good. It starts off with Buddy(Affleck) and he's in an airport where he meets a "Foxy" blonde who fits perfectly into the one-night stand category. Along the way he meets a struggling play-write who joins them at a bar when their plane gets cancelled. After a few drinks, the three get talking, and Buddy takes out his video camera(the Sony DCR-PC100, which I have) and gets him and Greg, the play writer. When Greg tells Buddy his story about his family back home, and missing the holidays, Buddy gives him his ticket to another plane so he can be with his family. Buddy not only sees this as an act of kindness, but rather an easy way for that one night stand. So, off Greg goes, and Buddy takes his "lady" to the airport hotel... In the middle of the night, Buddy wakes up to loud sirens, and turns on the T.V. ...And the plane HE was supposed to be on crashed, and took all the passengers with it. Buddy goes into a slump, and becomes an alcholic after this mess, and when he eventually gets out of rehab, he goes to check up on Greg's wife... Abby. They get to talking, and he decides she should handle his company's office-hunting. The two find they have a lot in common, and Buddy not only falls in love with her, but her kids as well. Then one day, Abby gets a video(think Blonde, and video-camera). Guess what's on the tape? You got it. Buddy and Greg. The news crushes Abby, but she doesn't know what to think... have Greg and Buddy never have met, and have Buddy(a stranger to Abby) die, and never being able to meet and fall in love with Abby, or have it turn out the way it did...
Although just by watching, you can tell that a significant amount of footage was cut-out, it's still a well-rounded movie with good acting to boot. If your looking for a good date movie, or feeling miserable about your own love life, this is definitely one to check out. I really liked this.
