Read the books, movies are so similar and true to the origin

Ok, I know I haven't seen the dvd, but the movie is brilliant. Thank God someone who is competent in Hollywood (Mr. Jackson) decided to adapt the books, as they are truly great books. So a few things didn't make the cut and he added Arwen far too early, but it doesn't take from the detailed text. I do miss Bombadil, but the movie was great even without him. And, unlike Star Wars, you can really feel for the characters even with the great special effects. It helps that their lines were already written in the book, but comparitively speaking, dialogue in the movie was excellent. (note to Lucas, the best Star Wars, dialogue-wise, was Episode 5, the one you did not write!) Overall, this movie is a must see, but not for youngsters who don't understand or haven't read the book, as it is not a true action movie and may seem boring, which it is most certainly is not.

Cheer Up Charlie

Thank goodness that we have Charlie Kaufman writing films. I just can't help but wonder how he comes up with stuff. He is by far the most creative and talented writer in the business, although he would say not to say, "in the business". This is a film of complete genius. The story, the acting, and the production are perfect. Jim Carrey is at his best. Kate Winslet hit a home run in my book. The whole cast Kirsten Dunst, Mark Ruffalo, Tom Wilkinson, and Elijah "Frodo" Wood is perfect. If you have not seen this film just buy it right now. You'll not disappointed.
This is the story of a guy trying to get over the break up of his relationship. When he hears that his girlfriend has had him erased from her memory he does the same thing. The film follows Joel (Carrey) through his memory as he tries and hold on to the memories of his girlfriend Clementine (Winslet) when he decides he still loves her. The visual effects are incredible as walls disappear, faces are erased, memories are lost. This is love story about two people who try and forget each other only to find they can't live with out each other.

Well worth a watch...

I'd like to contradict reviews on IMDb by annmason1 and "spleen."
The movie is NOT about the "genius in us all" (Josh has a unique talent that any parent trying to teach their kid chess knows), and it is NOT a movie about chess.
It's a movie about Josh, and his incredible talent and his father trying to come to grips with that fact. It's not a move that everyone will identify with in terms of their own children. But they will identify with it's theme.
Personally, I find the characters played by Ben Kinglsey and Lawrence Fishburn to be almost ancillary to the movie. Even though they may have been real cahracters in Josh's life, his talent existed whether they did or not.
I loved the movie because I identified with Josh in other areas, and probably almost all of us will in one way or another.
It's well worth watching because of that alone.

It is what it is

The other reviews here are elegant, and I'll ask you to trust them when they urge you to see and support the film. I will add, however, that it's strikingly clear we're witnessing a new era of slavery and servitude here, one that is less direct yet equally immoral. The argument that some critics have posted, stating that Jamaica's problems could be solved by a better tourism industry, is akin to contending that a violated woman ought to "pretty herself up and enjoy it more." Before we offer suggestions, maybe we should first put ourselves in her shoes - and that's what this film gives us a chance to do. And I'm indebted.

Another Kubrick masterpiece

The haunting music, the isolated hotel, the splendidly chosen cast, and Kubrick's genius made one of the most eerie and suspensful movies of all time. The beginning sets the stage and slowly takes us into the lonely hotel with just the three human occupants. It is there we start shivering as Jack starts breaking down and the hotel ghosts start making their appearances. I particularly enjoyed Lloyd the bartender and Grady the caretaker. Their impeccable grooming and polite manners disguise their fiendish intent. We get a brief feeling of relief when Scatman Crothers is called in, but that is cancelled when he meets his untimely end. Shelley Duvall was a perfect choice for Jack's wife. She has that vunerable frail look about her and fear faces can convey fear the way she did in some of the key scenes. Watch this movie on a cold night in a dark house alone!

I'm gonna go hump the fridge...

This movie is awesome. If you don't find it funny, then you have no sense of humor. The jokes in this movie are pure genius, and provide years of inside jokes for friends who enjoy this movie together over fondue with cheddar. or fondle my sweaters.

My favorite Movie of all time

This is one of my favorite movies. It mixes drama with comedy that most latins can relate to. Its drama that isn't so far fetched like most movies. It is something that has actually happen to most people. I guess because I have been through those kind of hardships and I know many friends that have been through them too, it made the film more real and understandable. It was real right down to the ... that is always trying to get your man. One of my favorite moments is when John Seda says "I make crazy, stupid love."

This did not get enough publicity

I think if this movie had been advertised then it would have been real popular. If you like plot twists and trying to figure how it's going to end then this is the movie for you. This movie is about a man who gets a birthday present from his brother and has no clue what it is. Neither does the audience, finding out is one of the best parts
