Ravishing and Inspiring

Certainly the most visually beautiful film I've ever seen. The Director's use of different color motifs for each version of the story was inspired. It also presented us with an intelligent meditation on honor and bravery, and above all, 'rightness,' that is sorely lacking in today's world. The love story was also quite moving. Makes most other movies seems like a waste of film. A masterpiece!

A Rollercoaster Ride Of Terror!

Rather than being just another hightech special effects monster moviethis little gem actually had somedecent acting and moments of actualterror to it.Scenes like the persons trying toescape the monster through the theold underground tunnel below themuseum were classic. The director is to be applaudedfor unique idea of using the Chicago museum as a backdrop forthis movie. The darkness and overallcreepiness of the museum gives justthe right amount of correct background for the monster to lurkaround in so you are never surewhere it is going to strike nextto chomp. The character developement of thehumans is not that great-but afterall the star of the movie is themonster-not the people.Although not as good as the Alienmovies for instance-for the budgetit is definately worth a look see.Be prepared to be really scared andgrossed out!

American Roots Music VHS

I loved this series. It is very well-done. They have taken 200 years of music in this country (some goes back farther than that) and made a very interesting story that ties in the many peoples and sounds and styles. You end up with this continuous musical tapestry that has them all woven in. Boy, a lot is packed into a little viewing time. You see nice long excerpts of live performances of all types. There are interesting interviews with performers. The narration is informative and stays on track with what you're watching. I really loved the music - all of it. And there was so much, no matter what your preference. Seeing how music evolved- and seeing where it's going and can go - that was fantastic. When it was over, I felt like I had been left with a timeless gift.

Best... Pirate... Movie... EVER

I understand a lot of people feel this movie will be good because of the actors. What people don't understand is that just because there are good actors in a film, doesn't mean that the film will necessarily be good. I think that the movie has gained lots of hype partially due to the fact that Orlando Bloom is in it. Excuse me, but just because he may be attractive(I, personally, like men like Viggo Mortensen and Sean Bean, big tough guys who don't run around and prance in forests), doesn't mean that this movie will be great. Just a warning, you may be disappointed.

It rocked!

Contrary to what people say, this was a really entertaining movie! Stuart Townsend was sexy as Lestat and Aaliyah looked beautiful as the Queen. And, yes i have read the Vampire Chronicles, and while it clearly did not stick to the books, it created a new storyline, and it was amusing. While I would have liked Louis to have actually been in the movie, it was still good. The DVD was packed with extras, like the 3 "Lestat" videos, bloopers reel, interviews with cast and crew, and more.

MidWest Review

Edward Bloom is dying and his son is called to his side, thus begins the ride of your life. Edward has always been a storyteller, big ones, little ones, everything about his life begins with a story. His son, Will, is about to become a father himself and is troubled with the memories of his own childhood, feeling he never really knew his true father, only the stories he told. Will is confronted with what we all have to face in life, acceptance. A person is what a person is, you cannot change them; and if you love them and want them to be part of your life, you will accept them as they are. Some of Edward's fables are played out for you, as Will begins to track down the different characters and finds out indeed they are real. The ending was bitter-sweet, heartwarming yet disturbing, an emotion that only death can bring. I walked away from this movie with more of an understanding of those in my life. Parents, Grandparents, children, friends, loved ones and even enemies; and I smiled knowing that I had been reminded time is short, memories run deep and we take a part of each person that we meet in this life within ourselves. I truly recommend this one.

Amazing cinematic expression of class struggle

Eisenstein captures extraordinarily the struggle between labor and capital, displaying brilliant cinematic innovation in the process. The factory workers are not individualized, with certain leaders representing the whole, but shown as a collective whole; both powerful and creative. The factory owner is not one particular boss, but a collage of multiple personalities, to express the impersonal nature of capital and the profit system. The film shows the organizing drive from early meetings of workers, to job actions, to the boss planting spies (innovatively shown both as humans and as devious animals), to the resulting strike and its conclusion. A raw, riveting film that set the stage for Eisenstein's later films, especially "Battleship Potemkin" and "October." A must see for those interested in the labor movement, cinematic and artistic brilliance, or the combination of the two.

Pure and Simple

Lost in Translation is honestly one of the best films of 2003 and even the critics, who loved it, agree. Its something different from the usual film. Lost in Translation centers around lonliness, the longing to belong, and cultural differeces which can cause some problems. Bill Murray is fantastic as the aging actor Bob Harris. He fills the character with a charm that you cannot get enough of. Bill Murray really does deserve the Best Actor Oscar. Scarlett Johansson is awesome as a neglected wife who finds joy in life when she meets Bob Harris. She really should have gotten a Best Actress or Best Supporting Actress nomination. Last, but not least, to mention is Sofia Coppla. As the director, she did a great job and it shows with all the hype that has surrounded the film.
Bob Harris WAS a movie actor. Now as his popularity has fallen in America, he is hired in Japan, where he is still a star, to shoot commercials and photos for Suntory, a whiskey company. He is obviously not having a good time due to frequent calls and complaints from his wife and the lack of sleep. Charolette has come to Japan with her photographer husband and spends almost all of her time in the hotel. She is lonely from the lack of excitement around her and the neglect she gets from her husband, who cares more about his job.
The two meet when Charolette is dining with her husband and his actress friend who is a complete-never-stops-talking moron. She has a brief conversation with him and we feel the warmth. At their next meeting, she invites him to go see her Japanese friends with her. With this experience with see how well they connect and we wish we had the same thing with someone.
Lost in Translation is a fantastic film that is funny and somewhat sad at the same time. This is a great movie that everyone should see because it is so enjoyable. Bill Murray truly rocks and is so alluring with his comidic and dramatic acting. See this movie.

dude, this is must see tv!

i totally thought that biodome was the most excellent movie, but that was until i rented the swimmer. i gotta give props to burt lancaster! he rocks! the experience was life changing. once as a younger man i tried to swim across my own pool and was sadly defeated and to think that this dude made it across ten. like whoa! swimming is not easy. that part where the llama comes out of nowhere and chases him, that was so intense, i was so scared. luckily for him that chinchilla was around to save the day. the way the blood poured out of that llama, not for those with weak stomachs. that's not even the best part, but if you want to know the rest rent the movie. two tumbs way up. quality entertainment. love and peace out.
