Rarest of movies

Rushmore stands alone among movies about young teenagers at a time in their life when anything is possible. I know that sounds cliche, but how else could someone genuinely believe they could attract a woman twice his age who is a teacher at his school (Rosemary Cross)? If Max Fischer were a few years older, he would be considered delusional, but his age forgives his optimism.

Bill Murray's character, Herman Blume, is an unhappy old man who can probably remember a time when he believed that things like money or family would make him happy. Max and Rosemary Cross manage to fill two voids in his life, love and the belief in things that can make his life worthwhile.

If this were a stupid teenage fantasy movie, Max might actually get Rosemary to sleep with him, but it is far to smart for that. In the end, all three main characters benefit from knowing eachother, even if it was not the way they wanted.

The Best Bond Movie

From Russia With Love is easily the best movie because if gives you everything that could be wanted in a Bond film. The thrilling action, the exotic locations, the menacing villians, the master plot, and of course Bond at his best. I was really impressed with this movie and I think it stacks up with the great Bond movies. (From Russia With Love, Goldfinger, Thunderball, View To a Kill (ya right) ) but all in all i think that this was a very enjoyable Bond film, and stands among the greatest!

A Great Combo Package Deserves A Great Review !!!

Thanks guys (or gals) for putting these two DVD's together! I loved them both. It's great to have these to refer to and remind myself of some of the techniques that I forget from time to time. I love reflexology and these help me with that too! Having them in the pack saved me money - but I would have bought them separately anyway. I also bought a combo package as a gift for a dear friend who keeps borrowing mine. This way she'll have her own!!! <smile>

Super movie.

This dvd movie is a genuine classic. Superb acting (I am not
even a Rock Hudson or Elizabeth Taylor fan)and great direction
and production values. It was a "giant" then in the 50's, and
it still holds its own even today. A great epic and fun to
watch.....sort of the original, big screen "Dallas", but much
better. Recommend this movie, but it is fully three hours long
so make room on your calendar.

Unusually Imaginative and Intelligent Science Fiction Movie

In 1996 a devastating virus wiped out most of humanity. A surviving rump has eked out an existence underground. Rather improbably under the circumstances they have developed time travel. They want to send someone into the past to gather information about the virus so they can return to the surface. As it's all a bit dangerous they use criminals such as James Cole (Bruce Willis). But they send him to the wrong year, 1990 instead of 1996, and no sooner does he get there than he finds himself banged up in an in secure psychiatric hospital...

This is one of the most interesting and intelligent science fiction films of the last couple of decades. It's one of the very few time travel movies that is at all logically coherent and it works both as an enjoyable, highly imaginative thriller about a man trying to cope with a truly nightmarish set of circumstances and a intriguing meditation on fatalism. It's one of Gilliam's career high point and perhaps Willis's very highest point: while his character does occasionally exhibit impressive combat skills, this desperate, confused, very vulnerable guy is a million miles away from John McClane. What almost ruins it is Brad Pitt's almost insufferably irritating over-acting as the insane Jeffrey Goines. But that is not enough to stop this being a standout in its genre.

Fantastic Fun Ride

In-accuracie's aside, I loved the movie, even though it doesn't do real justice to the Destroyer Series written by Warren Murphy and Richard Sapir. The method by which Remo is named and actually becomes a part of CURE is portrayed wrong in the movie. While he starts out as a police officer in both the books and the movie, Remo is originally framed for a murder he didn't commit, sentenced to die in an electric chair that didn't work, and then trained to be an assassin. All set up by CURE, the super secret agency that didn't exist, set up by a young president to battle organized crime outside of the Constitution. Conn MacCleary was a raging alcoholic and took his own life in a hospital, but only after he fell from the top of an apartment building. However, the movie does portray Chiun excellently, and the whets the appetite for more. Read the Destroyer series for the real story behind Remo Williams and Chuin, then you will view the movie in a whole new light and appreciate the premise.

Leo is simply wonderful!

This is a very realistic and entertaining movie. This film is Leonardo DiCaprio's breakthrough film. He is nothing short of excellent! The acting is good by everyone involved in this film. Anybody that has ever said that Leo "can't act" needs to watch this film. Leo is a great actor. Even as a child his talent shines through. Bravo Leonardo DiCaprio for being the great actor that you are!

Intriguing...

Despite the description, this film is not at all sensationalistic or exploitive. It's very sensitive and arty and very in-keeping with both Lennon's and Epstein's personalities. You really feel both characters' frustration: Lennon's at being at a confusing crossroad of oncoming fame and unwanted fatherhood and Epstein's at desparately wanting someone he can never have. It's more a dual character study than anything else. Lennon was fascinating in his angry young man stage and Epstein was hopelessly, pitifully attracted to people and circumstances that could only bring him pain. Lennon was not gay (in fact by all accounts he was downright homophobic at that age) but his empathy for Epstein's plight was so strong. He was torn between his heterosexuality and wanting to ease Epstein's suffering. A relationship would have been completely impossible and they both knew it. This film was quite realistic in not tacking on some kind of would-be happy ending or any ending at all, because with this type of situation, nothing is resolved, nothing ends -- it can't be any other way. If you're a Lennon fan, you really should see this.

Excellent Prequel

I believe that this final entry into the Lecter trilogy is superior to both The Silence of the Lambs and Hannibal. It portrays an excellent view of how Lecter nearly killed Graham, who then wounded and apprehended his former mentor, and provides some, but not enough of Francis Dolarhyde's Norman Bates-esque upbringing. This film is superb in making Dolarhyde seem as much a victim to the veritable demon on his back as the people he kills. Edward Norton's portrayal of Graham is also great, along with Hopkins' Lecter, who seems to have received much better writing than in the other two films. You truly get to feel that, though Lecter helps Graham, he is still a cold-blooded sociopath, and his rivalry with Graham is well-depicted. This film is adapted well from Thomas Harris' Red Dragon novel, which might be the reason it succeeds so well in its undertaking. The climax is spectacular and worth waiting for. The violence in this film is more implied than explicit, which leaves much of it to the imagination. Though this movie did not frighten me, the atmosphere, aided by the score, gives a dark feeling to all the happenings of the plot. I advise all fans of the first two films, and newcomers to the story to see this film, because it is, though not a masterpiece, still a great movie.
