Extremely Intense!

"24" is one of the only primetime TV dramas I hold in high regard. For three whole seasons, and currently working on its fourth, "24" has met my criteria in what I would consider a high quality TV drama. However, it has also surpassed my expectations especially in the areas of suspense and predictability. The show centers itself around the character Jack Bauer, a CTU(Counter Terrorist Unit) Agent, whose job is to protect the United States from any Internal or External Terrorist Attack. The show takes you over the course of a single day (one episode covers one hour of that one particular day) in which Jack has to face a certain threat to national security. For the past three seasons, Jack has already faced the threat of assasination of a presidential candidate(season 1), threat of a nuclear attack on U.S. soil(season 2), and the threat of a nationwide biological attack(season 3). Kiefer Sutherland plays the role of Jack Bauer and does an awesome job in portraying the harsh, cold and relentless personality that Jack is given. But what really gives the show its edge is the level of suspense it has and how each separate event weaves itself into the personal life of Jack. And the show is extremely unpredictable because of the way it manipulates the characters to take on different roles, and who you thought would be the good guy, actually turns out to be the enemy. Sometimes you won't see what's coming until you've seen it all from beginning to end. So if you want suspense, and if you want action, I highly recommend "24".

exciting film about boring people

If you have ever felt a complete stranger in a foreign country or just felt lonely (and sure you did), you'll love the film. Stranger Than Paradise is one of my Jarmusch favorites (at par with Down by Law).

Two melancholic characters, played or better said - lived - by John Lurie and Richard Edson, seem to be happy to just go with the flow without any particular purpose. But arrival of the Hungarian cousin creates purpose in their lives and makes the film very exciting. There are plenty of hilarious moments in this, in my view, very sad movie about being an outsider and feeling lonely.

5 out of 5 stars for Jim Jarmusch, John Lurie and cameraman Tom DiCillo.

George Lucas's Return to Glory!

After the somewhat disappointing "Phantom Menace", George Lucas satisfies the intergalactic craving in all of us, with this triumphant chapter of the "Star Wars" saga. Ten years have passed since we last saw Anakin Skywalker. Anakin longs to be freed from the over-possessive Jedi grasps. Anakin's love for Padm? Amidala is growing, and with the Jedi reluctant to let the romance blossom, Anakin's frustration boils. Yoda, and other members of the Jedi Council sense Anakin's frustration, and this worries them. A faction of political separatists, led by Count Dooku, attempts to assassinate Padm? Amidala (now Senator). Since there aren't enough Jedi to defend the Republic against the threat, Chancellor Palpatine enlists the aid of Jango Fett, who promises that his army of clones will handle the situation. Obi-Wan is sent to the planet of Kamino where he will investigate. While Obi-Wan investigates, he discovers that there is more than meets the eye behind an assassination attempt on Senator Padm? Amidala's life. Little does he know, he is investigating some of the biggest events of the Star Wars saga, as he finds out that there is a connection between the assassination attempts and a separatists movement led by a former Jedi (Christopher Lee) against the Republic. The Galactic Republic finds itself at the brink of a civil war. As Anakin is left behind to protect Padm?, his feelings for her grow into something more than friendship. From Naboo to Tatooine, it grows into love for her. But when a tragedy strikes Anakin's life, he begins slipping away from the Light Side of the Force, and perhaps from the Force itself. "Attach of the Clones" contains the stunning action sequences, and breath-taking special effects that we have grown to love from the "Star Wars" movies. The end result? We are left with a fantastic voyage to a galaxy far, far away.

Muy Bueno!

For those who were around during th early years of hip hop before it's "trashification" with gangster crap (though recent releases have shown some improvement) or who are just interested in this era, this is very good. The documentary on graffiti really gets it right when it sets up what it was like to be a 70s child in the pre hip-hop era (having been one myself). The videos themselves range from interesting to good. A crude but appealing video of the Crash Crew gives you a good idea of what early hip hop was like. Then we have the classics of the era such as Run-DMC's Rock Box, Dana Dane, Rob Base, the young Queen Latifah, etc. The there's De La Soul's classic posse video "Buddy" which also includes a cameo by the young Latifah. This is a sweet video. I love the unity and positivitiy it represents among the Long Island-New Jersey rappers of that time. Too bad rap did not stay on this level. But in either case, watch it, learn, and enjoy.

A fitting DVD presentation of a great comedy

The mark of a great comedy is that it remains funny after numerous viewings. "Stripes" (the 1981 release that helped make Bill Murray a star) passes this litmus test with flying colors. Now at last there is a DVD release, replete with extras, worthy of this enduring comedy.
Ivan Reitman directed Murray, Harold Ramis (who has subsequently directed many comedies of his own) and a great supporting cast led by John Candy as new recruits in the U.S. Army.
The wonderful veteran actor Warren Oates, who died shortly after the film's release, is their tough-as-nails drill sergeant. The by-play between Murray and Oates (opposites don't always attract) is priceless.
Suffice it to say that hilarity ensues, with the improbable unit putting on a virtuoso performance at their graduation ceremony ("That's the fact Jack!) sans their injured sergeant. This leads to them being charged with the security of a new super weaponized mobile home (it's called an, "urban assault vehicle") in Europe. Improbable? Absolutely. Hilarious? Most definitely.
Murray and Ramis also each has a lovely MP to accompany him on the duo's escapades as the ribaldry doesn't stop until the closing credits.
You can watch the "Stripes" with deleted scenes included or without.
The obvious highlight of the DVD extras is an hour long documentary on the movie with all principles interviewed (at his insistence, Murray's interview is done in black light). It is one of the better retrospectives of its kind.
And "Stripes" is one of the best comedies of this or any other time.
