the "citizen kane" of indie films

I love this I guess my comments should be taken with a grain of salt, or maybe a few grains. However if you haven't yet experienced this comedy you're cheating yourself.Anyone that has ever worked retail or anyone that is of that dubious age-group known as "Gen-X" will find plenty to laugh at/ relate with.It is a bit foul mouthed and explicit so it's not for kids or the faint of heart.Specifically with the DVD...Okay, it was shot on some sort of grainy Black and White film, so the picture quality doesn't really benefit from the digital clarity. The sound is surprisingly good for the production cost and I actually caught a joke that I had missed in previous viewings. However, the whole reason (besides it's being a great film)to buy this DVD is the extras. If you are a fan of the extras on DVD's this has pretty much all that you always hope will be on a disc: deleted scenes, a music video from the soundtrack, directors commentary, and an alternate ending! The commentary ( which I am listening to as I type this) was recorded during production of his second feature "Mallrats" (which the critics panned but I loved) and really gives you a feel of Smith's personality and what it would be like to watch the film with him and his friends.Check this one out.

I hate Disney, but I LOVE Lilo & Stitch!!

I've always shied away from Disney...maybe cause Bambi and Dumbo always made me cry as a kid (I was born in '73), and because I felt like Disney was lately (80's on) going for a very simplistic kind of plotline, with average animation (do all the girls have to have huge, doe-like, eyes?).With Lilo & Stitch, a very real, very human plotline comes to life. Lilo and Stitch are basically outcasts (I've always loved the 'underdog' role) who aren't sure where they fit in, in their respective (human, and alien) societies. They have the same misfit outlooks on life, and when Stitch is banished from alien society (the product of a 'mad genetic scientist'), he at first lives up to his reputation of being a character of destruction...but soon becomes a 'lost soul' of sorts...searching for a family to call his own...there are references to the 'Ugly Duckling' story...which I always had a very soft spot for in my youthful heart, and remember crying a lot over this little story...a lost little being looking for acceptance...this is the heart and soul of Lilo & Stitch...If you find yourself rooting for an underdog, with a little bit of bad manners, this is the story for you. I found myself rooting, laughing, cheering for both characters...there is no finer movie to lift the spirits and make one believe that the underdog can come up and blow everyone away! And, I dare say, that little Stitch is the cutest animation to come along since Roger Rabbit and Dumbo...truly precious!

Being a young girl starting to have all these bottled up and confussed feeling about what was love to be about this movie made me cry and I watched it several times. I haven't seen it in over 30 years but still remember the songs and the love that the two characters had for each other. If only real love like that exists, I would like to find it! Still looking for lover in the rain. Wonderful movie, it will stay with you forver!

Antonio Banderas was just amazing in this film. He is either an extremely great actor or this is his real-life character! Superbly played. The character performance played by the other actors was good, but not good enough to compare to Antonio's great play.

I saw this film last night and due to my great admiration I had a dream that there was a shoot out at my home, and I was armed with this silenced 9mm, just like the one Antonio and Sylvester use in the movie! I remember I kept loading these clips (that they also used in the movie) and shooting, but dreams as they are, the clips sometimes wouldn't work properly, and I would fire, and it would get jammed. I remember hitting a guy, but I had to keep going back to my room to get another clip as I was running low on bullets! What is this, a film review or a dream review!! Ah, who cares! There are hundreds of boring reviews out there; here is something a little different!

Anyway, back to the film.
As I really grew close to Antonio's character, I really wanted him to succeed! Of course thanks to the way movies are made these days (and all-days!), the "bad guy" has to lose.

What do I like about Antonio's character, Miguel Bain?
His way of speaking and his voice is amazing to boost his character.
He is a young man, aged in his early to late twenties, unlike his opponent, aged somewhere in his late 30's to early 40's, he actually calls him "kid" a number of times!

He is hardly a child when it comes to his job (an assassinator), he is extremely professional, and I don't think I can over emphasize this point! The young man wants to be the No.1 contract assassin, but to my view and I think to everyone else's who has seen the movie, he is already No.1. He is a more advanced young assassin than his opponent. The other assassin played by Sylvester Stallone never intimidated Miguel Bain. He always had his utmost confidence, and played the game to his best. He even admits he chose the wrong hero! I think they both knew that Bain was really No.1. Miguel wanted to make sure his opponent and his new mark is terminated, so he could instantly claim to No.1, even though his mark was planning on retiring anyway! Nonetheless, he wants him dead.

It's the two top assassin versus assassin, though Sylvester's character doesn't really want to kill him, Antonio's character gives him no choice.

Of course there is a lot more to this great store, but that's enough from me, see the film for yourself, or if you have already seen the movie, then why the hell are you reading these reviews! :)

Fun, Exciting, Cute!

I loved this latest installment of Angelic Layer. There's more exciting angel battles in store, more new friends of course, and perhaps some new romance? The mystery surrounding Misaki's mother unravels a little more in the course of these episodes. Competition is fierce, and not all Deuses play fair. When the Fujisaki sisters break the rules, all bets are off. Will Misaki and Hikaru be able to overcome this new challenge? Misaki and Kotaro spend a day together -- is it a date? Will Kotaro tell Misaki how he feels about her? All this and more are in these four exciting episodes of Angelic Layer!

An Exotic Location, Sea Treasure PLUS Ms. Bissett!!!

I saw this movie at the Drive in back in the wild reckless days of my youth.Back then you could gain admission for $3.50 and get to see a "Double Feature". For the young people reading this that means you got to see two movies in between risking food poisoning by buying a soggy hamburger at the Concession Stand during Intermission.Anyway back to the movie. Nick Nolte and Ms. Bissett are scuba diving in Bermuda when they find a glass ampoule. Unknown to them this ampoule is a vial of morphine which was originally to be shipped as Medical Supplies. Then the local drug dealer decides he wants a piece of the action and then the movie really starts to roll. I read that Ms. Bissett inspired the "Wet Tee Shirt " contest after appearing in this film in a wet white tee shirt which leaves very little to the viewer's imagination. This alone made the price of Admission worthwhile and I got to see a good movie as well!!!

Buffy Sainte Marie - Up Where We Belong - movie DVD cover picture

From the opening scene with Buffy talking to us from a campfire with wolves howling in the background, to the opening song "Darling Don't Cry", to the fantastic "Bury My Heart At Wounded Knee" and the final track "Starwalker,"this video is absolutely mesmerizing! She weaves her own life's story through her most famous songs in such a way that you are absolutely spellbound. Backed by a great band and the famous Pow Wow singers "Red Bull and "Stoney Park", Buffy treats us to her updated version of all of her greatest songs. Her powerful mature voice renders the old recordings outdated to say the least. If there is a negative it's that it is much too short. This video is so captivating that it is over before you realize it and you want to yell out for more. The only thing better than this video is Buffy in concert. I had the privilage of attending her concert at Pottsdam, New York March 11th, 2001. She was every bit as exciting to see in person and she does many of her songs not found on this video. This video won Canada's version of the Emmy Award in 2000 and when you view this video, you'll know why. Buffy, we need MORE videos like this!

Best Work of Art to Date

The most fascinating part of the DVD is actually the amount of work that was put into cutting, editting, re-arranging -- my God. You really get a sense of the pain and agony the entire crew went through to make such a movie. Time's running out and more changes are made, more cuts have to be editted. I'm sure there had to have been times when the crew wanted to go at each other's throats and have a word or two with their director. I'm not in the movie business, but can truly empathize with what it's like to work with a huge team on a big project with a short, short deadline coming up and the huge, huge pressure to do well.

But truly, all that strain and hard work was worth every second and it showed in all 11 Oscars the film rightfully garnered. After watching the special features on the DVD, I can honestly say that Peter Jackson and WETA has honestly earned my respect and changed my view of the Hollywood crowd. These folks really did give Lord of the Rings everything they got, and it will pay off for decades to come.

Tolkien would have been proud.

Elegance walking arm in arm with a lie

Two beautiful rock and roll boys get bedecked and bedazzled for a gorgeous film. The plot may get a bit muddled in a couple of places, but who cares? The actors are beautiful and talented, the music is incredible, and the costumes are to die for. It is a must have for fans of glam rock, but can be enjoyed by most everyone.
