Quite simply one of the best movies ever made....EVER!

I don't really know how to review this film. All I know is that i love this film. The Godfather Part I is truly brilliant. The scene where Micheal murders McClusky and Sollazo makes me nervous every time I watch it even though I know what is going to happen. In The Godfather Part II, my favourite scene is where Micheal has his enemy's killed, when he is looking out over the lake while his brother is shot. Part III wasn't that bad either. when in comparison to Parts I and II, then I can see why people have reached the conclusion that it is pants. However, when watched as an individual film it is a great movie.

A nice surprise.

When I first heard about this film I thought it was going to be a piece of garbage. Come on, when Edward Furlong has the lead role you know your in trouble. The movie revolves around Furlong's character playing a new game called Brainscan. People then begin dying in the neighborhood, and we are introduced to the Trickster, who gets Furlong to play the game. The movie is well-written and the acting is better than you would expect. Also, the plot twists in the film are a nice touch and will keep you entertained to the movie's end. I promise that you won't be disapointed with the movie.

One Of The Best Movies Of All Time

To describe this movie in one word.....: you really can't. This movie has so many sides to it. The characters, the plot, the emotions. All of it is drawn together flawlessly into a timeless classic. I loved this movie. Audrey Hepburn was fantastic and should have gotten an Oscar. All other actors including the Japanese guy put out performances that were outstanding. I have never, ever, felt so good after watching a movie than I did after watching this. Whether you get DVD or VHS, you will love it and cherish it for many years. Definately recommended.

BRILLANT FILM AND DOCUMENTARY

WELL IT'S ABOUT TIME. THIS IS THE LONG AWAITED EXTRA VERSION AND WELL WORTH THE WAIT. ONE OF THE MOST BEAUTIFUL FILMS OF ALL TIME THAT ALMOST DIDN'T GET OUT OF THE STARTING GATE. WHAT A LOSE THAT WOULD OF HAVE BEEN. IN THE AGE OF ACTION, SCI FI AND SPECIAL EFFECTS THE ONLY SPECIAL EFFECT THIS FILM POSSESSES IS THE ONE IT LEAVES TO THE HEART AND MIND. ANYONE INTERESTED IN THE PROCESS OF GETTING A FILM TO SCREEN WILL LEARN IT IS NO PIECE OF CAKE. BRAVO TO THE FILM MAKERS, CAST AND CREW. AS THEY ALL SAID IT WAS A LABOR OF LOVE AND IT SHOWS. ONE SAD NOTE IS WATCHING THE INTERVIEWS WITH CHRISTOPHER REEVE AS YOU WATCH THE FILM A VIBRANT ACTIVE MAN NOT A "SUPERMAN" BUT A FINE ACTOR.

The Passion of the Christ (Full Screen Edition) - movie DVD cover picture
The (Historical) Truth of the Passion

Now I am not here to start a debate, so I will just say a few things. Mel Gibson's film is mainly historically accurate with regards to the history given to us in the Gospels as well as non-biblical scholars, such as Josephus (his accords of the Jewish War have been proven to me really accurate (archaeological excavations) and the fact that he mentions the Crucification is very important), Tacitus, Pliny the Younger and the Talmud, among several others. The reality is that there is better historical documentation for Jesus than any other founder of any other ancient religions. Another interesting note, if one studies the discussions between the 1st century Jewish people and the Followers of the Jesus Movement (Jews and Gentiles alike), is that it was never denied that the tomb was indeed empty.

As a Believer it's important that I do let my faith go blind, it's very important to me that what I believe is historical sound and a non-biased approach to Jesus of Nazareth will prove this. Like Lee Strobel, I started out a non-believer. The Passion came out around the time I started my research and it struck a cord in me, I could not at the time grasp what it meant for me, I do now though.

My one observation is that Pontius Pilate was a much more sinister then he appears.

This is one of those films that, if you are a seeker or non-believer, you must step outside of yourself and ask some questions, "What is I was wrong? What if this man was truly the Son of Man?" These are not easy questions, but they truly are the most important. I could go on and on, that's the temptation for me when I get going on this issue.

So, thank you to Mel Gibson for portraying a positive view of Christianity. We were hungering for it. Other than the Passion of the Christ, the only other example of a positive image of Christianity that I can think of is Nightcrawler from X-Men 2. So thank you, I pray the generations will be watching.

Bring on the Night - movie DVD cover picture
Sting's Best Solo Band (and work)

I was very pleased to see "Bring on the Night" released on DVD. I remember seeing this movie in the theaters many years ago and always wondered why it hadn't made it to digital, but no more!
The viewer can ignore the "dramatic" subtext of the movie ("Can Sting, risking his career, make it as a solo artist playing with jazz musicians?"; I think that the answer was never in that much doubt)that they try to establish through a series of interviews with Sting and others. Sting is overly stiff and didactic (and, frankly, boring!); the only guilty pleasure is seing Miles Copeland (his manager) run roughshod over evryone who is not Sting.
This movie is about the band and the music that they create. All of the band members are exceptionally strong; you can see and feel the pleasure that they get from playing with each other (check out Omar Hakim's smile as he solos in the middle of "Burn for You"). The set list draws from (for me) Sting's best solo work and some tasty new arrangements of Police hits (the plaintive "Message in a Bottle" stands out). But the best thing in this movie is the FUNKY jazz groove that the band adds to Sting's compositions. Check out the extended jams on "Consider Me Gone" and "Bring on the Night."
In short, if you want to see and hear musicians playing great songs WITH, not against or over, each other (listen to Branford Marsalis' sax support the melody and the message of "Fortress Around Your Heart"), check out this movie.

Excellent Hitchcock Thriller

I have only seen this in VHS format, but am anxiously awaiting the DVD in a few weeks! However, I am not here to review the movie, I am here to say, that it is so dissapointing to see that the audio is not going to be 5.1 but instead lackluster 2.0 mono. What are ppl thinking? The Birds is perfect for 5.1. With the bird attacks, it would sound as if the viewer was being attacked as well, with birds coming from all sides. As usual, an awesome capability not living up to its full potential. Yet the "Wizard of Oz" is in 5.1? Makes no sense, very frustrating!
