Quite disturbing.

Despite first appearances, this is not another James Bond clone movie with generic action sequences and almost no plot: rather it is a very believable and sophisticated psychological study of loyalty, character and human violence that just happens to have a great story and painfully realistic action scenes. If you aren't drawn right into the main character's internal drama, the KGB must have worked on you first. Great performances from Aidan Quinn, Ben Kingsley & Donald Sutherland.

A very funny film

I've been waiting for this Kitano film to be released in region 1 for a long time. Finally it has happaned. I must say this movie is a lot different from his other, more violence oriented films, but it's a comedy so it should be. The film holds up very well, even after watching it a few times. There are so many subtle jokes that only reveal themselves after repeated viewings. It is very important for me that any film that I purchase on dvd will remain watchable even after a few viewings, and Getting Any? certainly meets that standard.DVD content: besides the film, which has a very prestine anamorphic transfer, there is an alternate ending, a very extensive director's bio, and the usual stuff [trailer, production notes, filmography, etc.].If you like comedies, done in the same spirit as the funnier Peter Seller movies, like the Pink Panther series and the Party, you should definitely get this one, it won't disappoint. For Kitano fans this dvd is a must purchase, because it really shows his funny side. Highly recommended, and thank you 21st Century DreamQuest Films for releasing this funny film on dvd.

Don't miss this one! You'll want to see it again!

Great movie! I'm a 4th generation Colorado native, I know our history is forever tied to Col. Chivington and the Sand Creek Massacre. I urge all who read this to dig farther into that terrible event to understand how our expansionist attitude destroyed many civilizations. Thank you, Tab, for this movie about hope and sacrificing for what we love and believe in. I'd like to talk to you about what happened to that area recently. (Chivington Ranch) I liked the narration by Wilford Brimley, and once again the people make the best critics, NOT Leonard Maltin in his little closet of the world. Leonard, go back to sleep and we'll wake you when the credits roll on the next great movie.

My favorite workout

This is a really great workout video because it has so much material. I haven't gotten bored of it yet (2 years) and it gives me so much energy. It isn't boring because Jennifer Kries goes at a good pace. This is not for beginners though, more for people at the intermediate level. It's a combo of ballet, yoga, and pilates, which makes it so interesting. I tried taking a taste of other yoga and pilates tapes but they are SOOO boring or the instructors (ex. Denise Austin) talk too much. The music is also nice and upbeat, unlike other ones.

LOVED these when I was a kid! Still love 'em!

Trivia for the trekkies out there, several names of the people involved behind the scenes of Land of the Lost you might recognize from Star Trek credits: David Gerrold, D. C. Fontana, Walter Koenig (Ensign Chekov), and I'm sure there are others.

For the people asking when Seasons 2 & 3 are coming out, according to Land of the Lost dot com Season 2 has a release date of September 28, 2004 (subject to scheduling change) and Season 3 is tentatively scheduled for January 2005. Ari! Sareesa-takka!

A Great Film

"October Sky" is one of the great films of the 1990's. Cinematography is excellent, acting is excellent, direction is excellend and the only criticism one can have is that the fime has an ending.
The film is suitable for the entire family and is very entertaining.

I was surprised at how well done this movie was, considering most adaptations of Charles Dickon's classics are botched. This one however was incredibly written as well as acted. It had very talented actors as well as a smoothly flowing plot.

Never having read the book myself I found the plot most intriguing, and though I was a little worried about the length of the movie (as I have the shortest attention span in the world) I was soon engaged in the plot. I did not feel compelled to skip portions or speed through others as with the help of a capable DVD player I sometimes do.

Once again I cannot stress how wonderful this film is. I highly reccomend it. One note of advice that I give is that I suggest the use of subtitles. Some people find them distracting, but if you don't they sometimes aid with the dialogue. Enjoy!!!

But I'm A Cheerleader - movie DVD cover picture
so good!

Think teenaged angst in hot pink, and you have a slight idea of what this movie is about. A social satire, it mocks the theory of "curing" homosexuals by presenting us with a "camp" for doing just that. And when I say camp, I mean camp! From the Nazi-like owner/instructor, a Cruella deVille wannabee played to the hilt by Cathy Moriarty, to the uniforms forced on the male and female campers (pink for girls, blue for boys--but of course!), to the hilarious anti-gay "exercises," there is not a dull moment in this truly funny but also touching film.
The story surrounds an innocent cheerleader (played by Natasha Lyonne), who is hit with a surprise "intervention" (side-splitting) from her parents and friends, who accuse her of being a lesbian, something that had never entered her mind. Nevertheless, she is sent to the reprogramming camp. There, due to the relentless "exercises," she does indeed get in touch with her lesbian self, and falls in love with a tough-talking but vulnerable girl named Graham.
Along the way, every cliche ever implied about gays and lesbians is lampooned in a way that not only makes the viewer laugh out loud, but also lays bare the ridiculous nature of such stereotypes. The end, which borrows liberally from "The Graduate," is a masterpiece in itself.
This is one of the great comedies. The acting is superb (look for a cameo by RuPaul Charles), and the script works. This film is a keeper!

worth the wait...

What can I say that hasn't already been said about this TV series? Not only is it the best cop series ever, it's one of the best series in any genre.... I like The Shield, but this is on quite a different level. No other show has ever given me that "oh my goodness" feeling after each episode. This DVD release is like a dream come true.
