Queen of the Damned

This is a very good vampire movie despite the fact that it is not exactly, word for word, like the book. The book is better than the movie but if the movie was just like the book it would be about ten hours long. The book is too detailed to puteveything in the movie. So, while watching the movie forget most of what you know about the book. If you don't you probably won't enjoy it as much.

Hey Coach I don't want to play Short Stop.

A woman inherits the Cleveland Indians and wants to create a winner. Unfortunately the only winning that will be done is after she moves the team to Miami. Miami has reportedly offered her a new stadium with lots of seats, luxury boxes, and a nice home in Boca Raton. She hates Cleveland and is eager to move.

To that end she brings in an ex con with an amazing arm and horrid accuracy, a voodoo practicing hard ball hitter who can't hit anything else, a has been catcher, a stock broker, and a whole bench of second hand has-beens. A walk on, played by Wesley Snipes, has his bunk carried out the first day. "I've been cut already?" He proceeds to run, in pajama's and bare feet, past everyone, getting on the team. He'd introduced himself as "Willie Mays Hayes. Hit like Mays, run like Hays. He can't hit at all.

The team struggle through most of a miserable season, much to the happiness of the show-girl model owner. She keeps making things tougher on the team. She gives them a derelict plane, then an old bus. She refuses to buy new equipment.
Finally, part way through the season, the truth comes out. "Then there's only one thing left to do. Win the whole ******* thing." They go out on a streak and win the penant

Bob Eucker is rich as the announcer who makes phrases like "Just Bit Outside!" on a pitch that hit the backstop. He also makes disparaging remarks about pitchers. "He leads the league in nosehair"

Great movie with a great cast, Corbin Bernsen, Charlie Sheen, Tom Berenger, Rene Russo. It was also one of the first movies that Wesley Snipes stars in before he hit it big time.

Intelligent Gangster Flick

This is one of my favorite movies because it does everything it attempts to do very, very well. As an action movie, it's fast-paced, tough and suspenseful. As a drama it's moving and thought-provoking. And, as cinema, it's well-crafted, with some really brilliant visuals. In these respects, although totally different in style, content and, of course, subject matter, it's in the tradition of Seven Samurai and other Kurosawa warrior movies. Beat Takeshi is also one of the coolest movie stars in the world. Much better on the big screen, but as it's almost impossible to find even in big city art house theaters, the video will have to do.

The best of the best

When I first saw the movie "Jaws" when I was 6 years old, I thought it was just another same old story that my father likes to watch. After I watched it, I was overcomed by fear of the sea. To this day, I still don't want to swim in the sea! This same effect has occured in the world in the mid 70's for six straight years immediately when "Jaws" started showing in theatres. The story is written by a brilliant author, masterful performances by Roy Schieder, Robert Shaw & Richard Dreyfuss, and a realistic and voracious Great White Shark. Now, I'm 12 and to this day Jaws remains in my top spot for horror movies. For all horror and shark fans alike, this one is for you. It will remain a classic and will still be able to make entire generations be afraid to go into the water.

My own diatribe voting for this movie.

I've read very mixed reviews of this film. I suppose I can understand how those who have gotten used to seeing high rate gore and special effects could get used to letting their imaginations lapse when it comes to seeing this movie. Those who can only focus on the sex scene - well, I imagine that has something to do with their brains being the size of a lima bean. This movie, you must remember, was made in 1981, so no, the special effects aren't up to modern day picky standards (although the scenes with Eva in all her glory are pretty gruesome). The majority of the book has been left out, and you'll just have to get over that, because it's hard to channel an entire book the length of Ghost Story into a 1 1/2 hour movie. So the focus is on Eva, her death, and her revenge. It is all about the revenge in this movie for what a group of high society boys did one summer night and tried to cover up. The storyline is presented romantically, the music is haunting and beautiful (unfortunately the soundtrack is out of print), and the sleepy snow scenes (like the opening scene) are unsettling and enchanting as Eva's vengeful laugh is dubbed in. This is a good, creepy movie. I will end my diatribe with this - grab a large bowl of popcorn, a Coke (or preferred soft drink), wrap your legs up in a comfy throw blanket, turn out every light in the house, and give this movie a go. If you just don't like it, close your eyes and listen to the music.

One of the greatest movies........ever

You know a movie is good when everybody you know keeps trying to steal it from you just to brag that its theirs. Ive watched this many of times with many different people and they all just sit speechless throughout the movie till its over. Then they say that was the stupidest movie Ive ever seen....But the next weekend they come back to me wanting to see it again. Its an excellent movie to watch while consuming alchohol and its hard to stop watching it once you start cause you just want to see whats going to happen next.

Loved this movie

If you loved NADJA then you will love this movie. Christopher Walker turns out another great performance. My only complaint is the little boy in the movie who serves no useful purpose in the plot. Another Michael Almereyda classic.

I've loved this movie since I was a little kid and it keeps getting better every time I see it. Non-stop laughs are the name of this game, not golf.
You don't have to like golf to love this movie. Just sit back, relax, and enjoy. The humor is everything from golf ball shots in the groin, to boat crashes and explosions, and that's excluding the jokes.
If you have only seen this movie on cable, you should be advised that there is always much that is edited out for television. Much of the movie is really of an adult nature. Not necessarily completely inappropriate for the kids, but parents should probably preview it ahead of time to make that judgement while paying particular attention to the dialogue.

the French response to Japanese animation

"Triplets of Beleville" is absolutely a treasure from the French director Sylvain Chomet. The details, story, humor, character development, the relationship between the characters, and the pure delight rivals that of the great Japanese master Hayao Miyazaki's works. It is absolutely a pleasure watching this almost speechless story unfold all the way to the final scene. Most of the dialogue, if any, is in French, but no subtitles. And that is intentional: you don't need it. Now that takes some good story-telling to achieve. And this film achieves in leaps and bounds. Chomet clearly has a different philosophy than the American animations going into his art. Don't get me wrong, I don't mean that Disney or Pixar works are not good, "Triplets" is just one of the most outstanding and different in story telling and the use of the medium that I have ever seen for a long time in an animated work. They say the devil is in the details. Well, then this is what makes this movie. I almost drowned in the images on the screen. The heart-felt story and just the way the story was eccentrically told stayed with me for a long long time after i left the theatre. Not since a Studio Ghibli (Miyazaki-Takahata) masterpiece have made me feel this way. Just for the details alone I could watch this over and over again. Therefore I can't wait to buy the DVD so I can make this story mine. I recommend this to all Miyazaki fans to check it out. You won't be disappointed. Enjoy. You will.
