Quality work

I'm about halfway through watching this series for the second time, and like all truly good things, enjoying it even more. I first came across this series flipping through the channels late one night, and was captivated by the somber mood and beautiful music. The story can be enjoyed at different levels, but what I find most fascinating is Robin's search for herself, which is the story that spans the whole series. Don't we all go through that in life? The story line is at a level that makes you think, rather than being spoon fed to the viewer, the way "The Da Vinci Code" was when I read it. I only wish they had come up with a second season for this show.

absolutely hitchcockian!

i appreciated this one so much! it was really well directed and harrison and michelle totally deserve an oscar for their acting, as does the one who studied the lightening! perhaps the way of filming was more hitchcockian than anything else. of course there are many references to many hitch's pictures, but not only that: it would have been too conventional... the ending was not ridiculous, i considered it as a logical one, i mean it is said that somebody, before death, sees something most important in his life. perhaps it was the case here? i shall add it is not a mere picture, it is complex and mature and goes very deep into human feelings and powers. the beginning was excellent: slow to make you feeling totally at ease! please forgive my mistakes, my english is not my native language.

Mellow and reticent--but honest

Compiled after John Lennon's death (but before Harrison's), it is amazing how this 12-hour documentary seems to capture his personality, presence, and participation. The thoughtful (and at times playful) editing of mucho miles of archival film and recent interview footage makes it possible to feel like each Beatle received equal attention. Perhaps because John was often the group's spokesperson during their heyday, he is amply represented by talkshow clips (including an interview with a very young David Frost).
Because the film covers only the decade in which the Beatles were the Beatles (post-Beatles careers are not discussed or analyzed), but does so from a 30+ year vantage point, the film serves as a very interesting study on memory. The surviving Beatles remember events (recording sessions, concerts, conversations, etc.) quite differently, and there is no impartial third-party commentator to enlighten the audience. It is very much like being at a family reunion--it's the quality and depth of the relationships that count, not the accuracy of the events recalled. In some cases, however, original footage contradicts a Beatle's memory. It is these lapses of memory, the humble and honest self-assessments, the willingness to forgive, the cherishing of what exisited and was special, and a mature perspective on fame and success that make this film a joy to watch. It's gratifying that Paul, George, and Ringo did not become like the "late Elvis" (a fear they admit to in the film). Yes, they became a little mellow with age. But they didn't cease to be interesting, thoughtful, or creative.
This film is accurately called an "anthology." The archival footage is generous. In most cases two or more full songs from a single concert are captured. And there are generous clips from all of their movies. Also of interest are the mini-films the Beatles made when they later tired of touring. They sent these films to television shows in their stead, allowing them to stay home with their growing families and avoid the screaming fans. In essence, they invented the music-video, a mainstay of the pop music industry today.
Towards the end of Part 8, the final segment, Paul observes that "looking back, almost every song was about love. That's a very positive thing. You can't argue with that, right?" The Beatles were revolutionary in so many ways, but they were never nihilists.

A Beautifully Done Fantasy

I was captivated by this offbeat production. The production was stunning and the musical collage was perfect. I loved the voices, delivery, costuming and scenery. The technical quality of the DVD is as good as it gets. Ok, so Puccini's version of La Boheme was better - this is still excellent.

A Beautiful Love Story

I love this movie. It is a beautiful but unconventional love story. I thought it was cast perfectly with Kevin Kline and Ashley Judd, who were wonderful together. I disagree with another reviewer who said the makeup wasn't good. I thought it was perfect and just made them look like older people rather than being too obviously made up. It was nice to see two people who stay together and love each other deeply, rather that just a shallow physical love. The music is absolutely beautiful, and when Cole sings to Linda at the end it's very touching and emotional.
I highly recommend Delovely!!

BEST SERIES EVER!

I won't bother to rehash the particulars and details of the Millennium series. I'll just say this- Millennium was the last television drama I ever watched. When Fox cancelled it, there was no going back to the swill trough. This was the finest most thought and emotion provoking show I've ever seen. I'm not much of a TV watcher, but I loved everything about Millennium- everything. If the subject of the End Times interests you at all, or if you're on some kind of personal quest to understand evil in the world, I think the character of Frank Black will give you some inspiration, maybe even some hope. That's where I'm at.

Vin Diesal

I won't bother you with the acclaims that SPR has warranted, and yes, they are all worth it. I am here to tell you about Vin Diesal's turn as Private Carpazo. He gives a strong performance in this role, and you could see his superstar attributes showing here. Watch for Diesal in Knockaround Guys, which is his upcoming movie. (I wouldn't bother with "XXX") Anyways, go catch SPR, and enjoy Vin's role

Just Hilarious.

The movie is light-hearted but deals with class and social issues. Sort of a family-oriented Trading Places. Phil Hartman and Sinbad worked very well as a comedy team. What really made the film great, I believe, was the walk-on part my brother had as the manager in the McDonald's scene. If you put the video on slow motion you can see him walking behind the girl taking Sinbad's order. What talent, what presence!

What the heck is goin on?

I watched this movie and at first was a bit confused. After watching it over and over finding new info I began to understand and love it. The best part of this film was that you could repeat watching it. There was little nudity but kids should still not watch. I loved the characters and was constantly assuming who the real killer was, and the ending is amazing. Excellently written, drawn and produced
