Qualifying- good but not for everyone eventhough it should be!

What the bleep is good for someone that is on a spiritual quest or some one wanting change in their lives. It gives good evidence that we are in control if we want to be. It is presented in a unique way that makes you want to learn the information. You should buy it, just to keep on hand for those depressed grumpy people in your life. Watch it. it's a place to start. What can it hurt?

"A favor gonna kill you faster than a bullet..."

One of the best gangster movies ever made (in my opinion), Carlito's Way is finally given a Special Edition treatment on DVD. And while the transfer is great, the extras are kind of slim. A making-of featurette, a photo gallery and a theatrical trailer. Wow. This movie deserves better, but I guess I can't gripe too much about it. At least Universal had the generosity to re-release it in anamorphic widescreen.
Carlito's Way is kind of a semi-sequel to Scarface, but at the same time they're two completely different movies. Both films are directed by Brian De Palma, star Al Pacino and have to deal with drug dealing gangsters, but the stories are yin and yang. Scarface is about a volatile hoodlum who does whatever he can to get to the top, whereas Carlito's Way is about a man with morals (street morals, but morals nonetheless) who is doing whatever he can to get OUT of the "game." After being released from prison, Carlito Brigante hooks up with his old flame, Gale, who is the only bright light in his otherwise dark world and also the only one he completely trusts. While trying to save up enough money to get him and Gale out of his twisted surroundings, everyone from old cohorts, young punks and even his drug-addled attorney (Sean Penn in one of his best performances) have other plans for Carlito. In the opening credits, we see that Carlito's plans for a future in paradise are shattered as someone guns him down at a train station. De Palma could have easily avoided doing this, saving it for the end to create more suspense during an already fantastic chase sequence, but what I think he wanted to illustrate was that in the life of Carlito, there is absolutely no hope. As the tagline of the movie suggests, once you're in, there's no getting out. Period.
This movie makes a great companion piece to the aforementioned Scarface, but it's also a great stand alone movie. Check it out.

Hogan does it again!

Do you like international kidnapping, former NAVY SEALS, muscles and a lot of military hardware not to mention a very pretty lady in your movies? I bought SHADOW WARRIORS taking a chance that it would be an action movie with some substance. After all, Carl Weathers and Terry 'Hulk' Hogan are a sure thing for plenty of action. And Shannon Tweed, well, she's great to look at! To my pleasant surprise, this is a very entertaining movie, fun to watch and worth the price.

Made My Heart Ache for NYC

I had the good fortune to live in Manhattan for three years, from 2000-2003. During this time I lived through profound, life-altering events that I know will forever mark my soul.
This DVD set tells the story of the greatest city on Earth, in such a poetic way. After each viewing, I feel more and more like I have a narrative to go along with the emotions that NYC generated in me when I lived there; that I was a part of the ongoing story of New York that began in 1609.
The images, music, and narration of the documentary hit all the right notes, and more than once gave me chills. And even though the documentary may seem overly sentimental at times in its treatment of the City and people, ultimately this film should rightly be considered a heart-felt love letter to New York.
In the end, I came to love New York City more than I ever imagined, and this DVD set made me realize that although I left NYC, I will never forget that for one brief moment, I knew that every time I left my apartment, I was standing at the center of the universe.

24 TV Series

24 is definitely the best action drama on tv. My son caught a couple of episodes in season 4 and decided to purchase seasons 1-3. My husband, son and I started marathon watching. I refused to watch any of season 4 in the middle of the season so I can't wait until the season 4 comes out. We brought season 1 over to my sister-in-laws house and now she is hooked. She brought it to her mother's house and her mother and grandmother are now hooked. I really liked the fact that I didn't have to wait until next week to watch. The only time we turned it off was when we were falling asleep from exhaustion. I don't think I am going to like when season 5 starts and there are commercials and I have to wait until next week to see the next episode. Not to mention the breaks they take during the holidays where you might not see it for 2 or 3 weeks. Dec 6, 2005 is to long to wait!

Wowee wow wow wow!

Everything in this was spectacular! Recently, I saw that Al Pacino had topped a few offical lists of the greatest actors of all times. And I thought to myself; "Granted, this guy is a magnificent presence when on screen, but one of the best actors ever? I heartily disagree." Then I saw his performance in 'Angels in America' and everything I had ever thought about Pacino was erased. This man IS the greatest living actor, if not greatest actor period, ever. Of all time! And his counterparts in this film are also engrossingly well performed people. Gosh, I just can't say enough abotu this film. My one pet peeve is the little speech at the end, given by four of the principle characters. I thought the style was out of step with the rest of this movie and it didn't settle right with me. But I didn't disagree with it's message and, again, great. I wish something liek this was released theatrically. Because if it was, it would have one best picture, best director, best cinematography, best set design, and all of the people would have tied for Acting credits. I'm dead serious. I just can't say enough about how well performed and well made this film was. And, as far as I can tell, this was the best ficitonal portrayal of gay life I have ever seen put on celluloid, or at all, in fact.

Keeps my son's attention better than any other DVD/show

This is the only DVD my very active 21 month old will sit and pay attention to. I bought it for him because of his love of water. He'll stick his whole head in the tub when he takes a bath! He's intrigued by all of the different water scenes and likes to point and "talk" about what he's watching.
