Pure Brilliant

I saw this film many, many years ago when I was young and it was the first film that truly moved me. I didn't just shed a tear, but I sobbed and sobbed! And most recently watching it as an adult, I still found the film just as powerful and moving. The most touching scene to be where Christian Bale sings the Japanese anthem across the fence looking at the Japanese soldiers.
Although I cannot comment on whether the film correctly depicted the history of the War, which has been the source of criticism towards the film. The acting, directing, cinematography and settings are all just fantastic. This is my kind of film, there are many painful scenes and happy ones, either way, both were extremely moving.
I found great pleasure in Christian Bale's recent comeback to box-office hits, especially in American Psycho. As he proves he is not merely a one-hit wonder.
This film, without a doubt, is in my top 5 films of all time.

an excellent true story...

...about non-true stories, and the man who told them.

I had the pleasure of seeing this movie in the theatre, when it first came out. It's a horrifying tale of a trusted reporter, the people who trust him, and how that trust is misplaced....and how, finally, the pack of lies collapses under scrutiny.

Excellent performances by all involved. Nowhere within the movie do the actors remind me that they are just actors--very convincing performances especially on the part of Sarsgaard and Christensen. Definitely an art-house explosions, shootings, or sex...just thoughtful scenes, building to an emotional crescendo.

Hopefully, a movie like this is required in journalism ethics classes.

"Kirk to Enterprise!"

William Shatner delivers his lines in excellent form. This is the first pilot episode with Shatner and even better than the very first (not that the first one wasn't bad, I loved it). Now it is on DVD and in excellent condition. This format I think has restored the original value of the series and now you can own it as if they were being broadcasted on T.V. once again. It is terrific and a must for all die-hard Star Trek fans as myself.

Excellent family movie

This is a movie that is excellent for the whole family to enjoy. Not only does it show Jesus in a positive way, but it is engaging and breathtaking. In a society that glorifies violence in books and movies, its nice to see something where someone isn't being shot at or dismembered. Some reviews keep stressing that it is not a religious film. But it is. CS Lewis is one of the most quoted Christian authors of our time. Whats wrong with a movie with religious undertone? I say watch and enjoy it . I have been since its release and I am now 29!!!!

The Lord of the Rings - The Fellowship of the Ring (Widescreen Edition) - movie DVD cover picture

This is an amazing and creative story for those few have not yet seen it. The creative story line which highlights the broader theme of good and evil, only begins to describe the Lord of the Rings--The fellowship of the Ring. The landscapes in the movie are exquisit and breathtaking. Like the Last Samari, where scenes of Japan are shown from a higher elevation, the footage provided in The Lord of the Rings gives the watcher not only higher elevation shots of mountains, valleys and amazing waters, but lower more close up shots of beutiful vistas.

The creative story and great views are equally surrounded by dramatic make up and character development. Frodo, the main character, begins his journey which will define him as a person. The film provides the viewer with amazing and challenging battles, each more surprising and better than the last, that begin to define Frodo's character.

The frendship and loyalty themes developed between the Fellowsip of the Ring are important messages for the targed audience as well. For Sam and Frodo, two of the nine Fellowship members, perhaps the strongest and most lasting bond is made. True, friendship has no boundries, not event the lack of ability to swim when Sam tries to catch Frodo as Frodo begins to row away on his journey to destroy the Ring.

Watch this and enjoy all of it.

As good as my husband remembers it from watching it in first-run primetime. I'm new to the show, but have found (from what I've studied) it to be a good depiction of the soldier's life in Vietnam. Great character development, you actually care about each character and are rooting for them, no matter your views on the conflict itself.

Great Drama about a Great Woman

This is a great examination of life in 16th century England, and the circumstances that made Elizabeth I one of the greatest monarchs in World History. The best part is that we see the young Elizabeth: passionate, vulnerable, and most of all, human. Under threat of death by her own sister, caught up in the English Counter-Reformation of the mid-1500's, and facing love and marriage issues that would challenge man or woman, Elizabeth at the end of the film chooses the only path open to her to secure her throne: to transcend humanity and become an icon...or as to paraphrase Elizabeth herself, "to be a reborn Virgin". The last scene in the film encapsulates it, as Elizabeth transforms herself with chalk-white makeup, a bright red wig, and a spectacular out-of-this-world costume. I do have some minor quibbles with the implied dates: the film gives you the impression that Mary Tudor, Elizabeth's sister, dies in the mid-1550s, when in reality it was 1558; also, the film doesn't emphasize her intellectual brilliance as much as it should (and was historically mentioned by everyone who met her). But all in all, there's no better film to illustrate this era in England in an understandable way and put a human face on a woman most people only know as "The Virgin Queen".

Terry (Jane Daly) was MINE

Growing up with Alan, I was in this movie and spent many hours in makeup with Alan doing his magic with grease paint and all. I got Terry in the end and loved every minute of it. Thanks Alan!! Ormsby and Clark are by far some of the best talent out there.
