Professional yet personal

This video with Mr. Norris is exceptional. The techniques are not so difficult and the equipment required is not a room full of exercise equipment, but something that EVERYONE has....a chair! This video is for EVERYONE! My children are also learning these self defense techniques! Thank you Mr. Norris! Thank you Amazon for selling it at an affordable price!

Best video we own

I bought this video for my 21 month old son after reading the reviews. He is a late talker and I thought this might help. I can't say enough about this video and now reccommend it to everyone I know. After just two weeks he can already name and make the sounds for almost all the letters in the alphabet and I have noticed a tremendous improvement in his language development. The video is truely brilliant and so enjoyable that he now asks to watch it everyday. Even better is it coordinates so well with the leap frog refrigerator magnet set- one of his favorite toys. I wish I could give this more than five stars. Can't wait to go buy the word factory video and any others they may come out with!

A New Classic

Most people think that Defcon 5 means "peacetime" and Defcom 1 is "nuclear war". The reality is reversed, but this film has entrenched itself and it's terminology in our world to this day. The first real "hacker" movie, and the gold standard. It seems, in many ways, more relevant now than ever...

The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie (Widescreen Edition) - movie DVD cover picture

There are a few nearly hysterical lines in Spongebob Squarepants, "Spongebob, she's hot." being about the best (just wait until it's in context, you'll get it.)Unfortunately there's about two other laugh out loud moments in 88minutes, the rest is just nautical nonsense.

The film opens episodically with very little sense of direction or plot. The scenes are trying to set up an emotional center, Spongebob being upset about not being promoted to manager of the Krusty Krab 2, wanting to be a man not a boy (a theme explored in the show when Spongebob had a lipstick kiss from his grandma.)Unfortunately Spongebob is way to shallow here to really gain any ground developmentally.

When Planktin steals King Triton's Crown and frames Mr. Krabs for it (should have been hysterical, but was so predictable not even the kids giggled) Krabs is left frozen solid and Spongebob with six days (rather than two weeks, thank you Patrick)to recover it from the Cyclops of Shell City.

From there the movie drags into a long, unsatisfying journey to the ass of David Hasslehoff (a wasted cameo, too disgusting and grotesque to be funny and I like disgusting and grotesque -- see, Evil Dead --) There's also a hit man, sent by Plankton, to stop them as uses chum buckets to enslave the Bikini Bottom dwellers.

Key Characters, Sandy, Mrs. Puff, Squidward are mostly left out of the film (what a shame, Sandy would have added a lot to the little quest portion of the movie.) And wasted, dismally, is Scarlet Johansson as Tritons daughter ("wow, you're pretty...") What's truly lacking is any real attempt from Spongebob to do anything he doesn't have to. The entire journey is one of desperation and dumb luck but not played to either laughs or drama (remember how Shrek, Monsters Inc, The Incredibles do both???)

So lacking in plot, character depth and humor does the film at leas boast some great hand drawn animation for the big screen? No. This is just an 88min episode that looks no better than the TV Show. Nick has really dropped the ball since Rugrats and Jimmy Neutron, Thornberries, Rugrats go Wild and Spongebob are all unimaginative cookie cutter films lacking anything you can't get from the regular show.

There's a reason to go to the movies, a reason to want to see characters normally in 15 minute plots get an hour and a half, but Spongebob Squarepants leaves out most of them. In the end it will breeze over you and other than some really nasty CGI work on Hasslehoff you'll leave not feeling queasy, but you won't bring anything positive with you either, just an idea that it was, well, okay.

Genesis - The Video Show - movie DVD cover picture

Let me just start off by saying that if you're a Genesis fan you MUST buy this! It is incredible. I mainly bought it just to finally have the videos in DVD format. Plus, there a few that I hadn't seen before. I've had most of them on VHS for years. When I got this home I immediately started out with Mama (of course). I nearly started weeping! The surround-sound mix of this music is unbelievable. This is greatest thing I've heard since the concert in '92!

Comedy at it's finest

This hast to be the funniest episode of Mystery Science Theatre EVER (maybe a close tie with "Pod People") and it's also the worst movie they've ever riffed ('cept maybe "Red Zone Cuba"). I reommend it to anyone who's ever seen the show (probably not a great choice if you've never seen it). If you've only watched MST3K on the Sci Fi channel, or you don't know who this "Joel" guy is, I COMMAND you to get this tape! The master has spoken!

Devo - The Complete Truth About De-Evolution - movie DVD cover picture
Are We Not Men? Can't We Just Enjoy This DVD...

Albeit, the quality of some of the early videos is lacking (but in a way, this provides a certain charm), but is not DEVO better than no DEVO at all. I mean where else can one view the short film, 'In The Beginning Was The End: The Truth About De-evolution'? This is a great DVD simply by virtue of it's material. DEVO was a seminal rock group, the original new wave and post-punk band. For that reason alone this is a great DVD. I mean I didn't expect crystal clear clarity & 'Lord Of The Ring'-esque production values. I wanted DEVO, and that is what I got. Thank you Mark & Gerald. In addition to the indespensible early videos are some archived live footage (Including their first ever performance at Kent State in 1972!), and a pretty hilarious public service announcement/ infomercial espousing the virtues of Laser Disc. The abovementioned features, in conjunction with the sweet price make the purchase of this DVD a no-brainer. If you love DEVO, buy this immediately, If you don't, buy it anyways and support subversive art.

A must see!

From the time I first saw it in the movie theater images from this film have not left me. In addition to the moving, overhead, time-lapse photography, Phillip Glass' score just pounds home the power of the scenes. I get to travel a lot in the southwest, and when I see that landscape I think of the film. And this is good.
When I hear of a new shuttle launch there is brought back up for me the super-super-slow motion, interrupted view of a rocket launching pad being blown to smithereens by the phenomenal force of a rocket's thrusters in a time frame so slow that I was given a lot of time to wonder "What in the world is being destroyed here!!?"
The message is clear I believe, and I do not belive it is just ecological. The holding of a hand of a human being in a hospital bed is one of the tenderest images I have seen - and the holding could not have been done from one of the cars caught in the jerking, frazzling pack of traffic. The message intended, I believe, is the english translation of the Hopi title word - Life Out of Balance. I appreciate very much, however, not being clubbed to death with the message.
A wonderful, powerful film.
