This is a great movie. The animation is breathtaking and the plot is great! Two hours sound long, but I can assure you, it will only feel like 20 minutes. Simply great. Buy it now if you like good movies.

The original Achim Freyer production in Stuttgart was great

Since the DVD has not yet been released I cannot speak to the quality of this release, but I have seen the production of Satyagraha that is presented on this disk. In the summer of 1990 I traveled to Stuttgart to see the Philip Glass "Trilogy" of operas; Einstein on the Beach, Satyagraha and Achnaten. Though I believe this performance was recorded some years before I saw it. All were by East German producer Achim Freyer. Satyagraha was an unusual but brilliant presentation. There are three performers playing Gandhi, one sings while the others share various acting and gymnastic roles such as walking along a narrow lighted beam which extends over the orchestra pit. Freyer uses images that are contemporary to his audience, which in this case is German and seemed a little peculiar to me at the time. An example of which is having German Police with motorcycle costumes come onto the stage rather than using costumes of South African police contemporary to Gandhi. It presents a certain harshness that I had not heard in listening to the music for so many years, however it worked very well and is a reminder that opera should address its audience, even when it's a new composition. My limited experience with German opera productions leads me to believe that love or hate a new production, it is sure to be original. US opera companies could learn from this.
For Philip Glass fans such as myself the DVD is a "must have." I first started listening to Glass in the early eighties when the North Star sound track was released. I was fascinated by the originality of the music and when I wanted some privacy I could play the LP and my roommate, who liked pop "jazz" would get agitated and leave our dorm room. Satyagraha though is not agitating but rather beautiful. If the recording is good then I would recommend this to anyone with an interest in opera or contemporary serious music. I have pre-ordered my copy.

God, Why can't I be Scottish?

I just wanted to take this time to thank god for making such an amazing human being as Mel Gibson.
Their isn't a word to describe this movie. If their was it would rhyme with blood-gore-story-tears-action-beauty.
Even the music makes you want to sell your soul to Mel Gibson.
Which he probably already owns... it's all good.
Why haven't you bought this already?

You haven't lived until you've seen this

There is not one moment of watching the Usual Suspects where you don't feel twisted and manipulated in opposite directions. You'll welcome every minute of it. This movie reeks of perfection, and even the most embittered would be hard-pressed to find faults in this, the greatest flick of all-time. The wonderful ensemble acting stretches far beyond the master, Kevin Spacey, to include both mesmerizing and hilarious performances from all of the cast. The cinematography is breathtaking in its originality. The music is delicious. I cannot think of one moment where I didn't feel a wonderful, lasting rush.

Best War movie I have seen

Tracing the history of black soldiers in the American Civil War, Glory is a historical treat and a most entertaining watch. Empassioned performances from Matthew Broderick and Morgan Freeman are bolstered by a strong and battle scenes with the kind of realism that has you ducking behind the sofa for cover from the bullets. Definately one of the best Civil War movies of all time. END

The Adventures of Indiana Jones (Raiders of the Lost Ark/The Temple of Doom/The Last Crusade) - Widescreen - movie DVD cover picture

I'm sure you all know the stories so I won't go into how great an adventure these movies are. Instead let say if it's worth getting if you already own these movies.
I hear all the DVD/Laserdisc issues and I totally agree. However, for those who only have VHS as an option, the Widescreen version of the Indiana Jones trilogy is truly welcome and well over due.
For years I've been watching these films in their pan and scan. If anyone knows Spielberg, he loves using different sized lenses to get a panoramic shot during his films. You don't get that feel at all in pan and scan. Now with this gift set, you'll see the original vision. His great geographical settings will be seen the way he filmed it. Dialogue between two people will be seen in one shot, instead of annoying cuts between one person and the then the next in pan and scan. Watch the widescreen versions, and you'll see it as a smoother flowing film.
I must also say, the picture quality is much better than the original videos. The clarity will hit you right away. The only reason I bought this set was for the widescreen. I must say that it was definitely worth it and the fact that the picture and sound are much clearer is a great bonus.

This would have been only 4 stars

But the way I see it, the reviews on here are ridiculous. Left Behind, a movie made by an *no offense* aweful production company, and a low budget film at that, surprised and startled me. I am not exactly a believer of the rapture, but I thought the movie really gave a basic idea of what the end times will be like. I Loved This Movie! And when you love a semi-low budget movie, then you know the acting was great and it HAD a storyline, unlike movies such as "funnybones" and "deep blue sea". oh and i have a question, how does james bond movies and this movie have ANY similarities at all?!?! anyways, it had the evil twist, which was really suspensful. 2 thumbs up here (: P.S. i have a question, how does james bond movies and this movie have ANY similarities at all?!?!

Great movie about dealing with the hand fate deals you

Saw this movie just once when first released and have been searching for it ever since. I believe it is Omar Shariff's best role. More on a par with Lawrence of Arabia than the fluff he did in Funny Girl or Dr. Zhivago. This movie contains the best scenary of afganistan you will ever see. And the footage of the Bushkazi match is unforgettable

American Pie...for girls

Okay, I'll admit it...The Sweetest Thing is not exactly an Oscar-worthy performance. However, it never fails to entertain. With raunchy, in-your-face humor, this movie will surely leave you, or at least all females, crying from laughter! Understandbly, I have found that guys aren't too fond of this girly film, but I have never met a girl yet who hasn't cracked up laughing. Think American Pie, with all its vulgar humor and hilarious adventures, only with girls. Cameron Diaz, Christina Applegate, and Selma Blair are three best friends, in search for the perfect man. they manage to stay friends through everything. With a perfect combination of humor and girl bonding, this is the perfect movie to watch on a girl's night out. Even though it might not win the awards, it will leave you with a smile on your face!
