Charlie's Angels - movie DVD cover picture
Powerpuff girls meets Charlie's Angels.

Most remakes of TV shows put onto the silver screen fit into two categories: Spoof of it (Brady Bunch 1&2, Beverly Hillbillies)or a genuine attempt at copying it, but making it look cooler (Lost in Space...etc.) Charlie's Angels has opened the doors for a new category, they are genuinely trying to be similar to the TV show, but they don't let that stop it having originality. On the show, the angels ran around wearing skin tight skirts and pants with see-through blouses, without realizing how pretty they looked. In the movie, the angels use their looks and their brains to get where they want to go. It was not a great oscar-winning classic, that wasn't what it was meant for. It had a cartoonish feel to it, violence rarely caused blood shed, though with all of the brow-beating some of the bad guys were getting, you will flinch a few times. The angels mantained their innocence of the show, without losing their modern edge. The story was original, and probably better crafted then the majority of the shows story lines. The acting was well done, and the characters were well developed. A great addition to any movie-lover or TV fans DVD/VHS library.

An absolutely amazing film that changed cinema, and not just because it was the first film of the Italian neorealism movement. Visconti's version of The Postman Always Rings Twice is beautiful, desperate, and inspiring.

Batman Begins (Widescreen Edition) - movie DVD cover picture
Our greatest enemies can be our greatest teachers.

Anger can hold our intellects hostage as it did the young Bruce Wayne. Carmine Falcone tells him, "Don't come down here with your anger, trying to prove something to yourself. This is a world you'll never understand. And you always fear what you don't understand." Wayne does well with this advice, and how.

Michael Keaton is now a *distant* second in the hierarchy of Movie Batmen. And Michael Caine makes all previous Alfreds look like fancy pants sissy-boys. Highly Recommended!

Stupendous.I WOULD HAVE GIVEN IT ********** Stars

I loved the movie for its special effects and action.Though the "The Matrix" had a much better story. In matrix reloaded there is a lot of scenes which were not necessary, like the dance scene in Zion. But the movie is filled with lot of action and high quality special effects.People who love action will love this movie.Do not hesitate to buy this movie.
To understand MATRIX i recommend you'll have to see Animatrix which explains how the matrix became.

Something's Gotta Give - movie DVD cover picture
Keaton Fantastic in a Wonderful Movie

Where "Lost in Translation" showed us a complex giving relationship between an older man and a younger woman, "Something's Gotta Give" is unrepentantly nasty about such relationships, which it sees as inevitably a character flaw in the older man.
At the same time it wants to have its cake and eat it by making no such criticisms of relationships between older woman and younger men.
It's not hard to see that the audience demographic for this movie is baby boom women who don't much like the idea that many men of their generation are now dating younger ones, but heartily applaud Cher and Demi Moore for their May/December romances.
In "Something's Gotta Give" Jack Nicholson's Harry Langer gets criticised for his interest in younger women. Frances McDormand as a woman's studies teacher laments that older men can date younger women but that older single women can't get dates at all. A former husband, played by Paul Michael Glaser, is criticised for wanting to remarry - inevitably - a younger woman.
Yet despite that, not only does Nicholson's character finally fall for older female playwright Erica Barry, played by Diane Keaton, so does Harry's young doctor Julian, played by Keanu Reeves. (And Keanu Reeves as a doctor, and an enthusiastic and astute intellectual judge of plays, is perhaps the film's biggest single bad joke.)
But even the better actors are disappointing. Jack Nicholson just does his Nicholson as bad boy schtick, a far remove from his superb performance in "Schmidt". Oscar nominated or not, Keaton gasps a lot.
It's an awful audience-pandering film, and one that will enjoyed pretty much only by precisely that sector of the female audience to which it is pandering. And it's set in a bizarre fantasy world. Doesn't writer and director Nancy Meyers know that Broadway is a highly competitive place these days, and that plays like the stuff Keaton's character writes wouldn't even get an off-Broadway venue? And yet we're to believe that Erica has got filthy rich from doing this kind of stuff.
And then there's the movie's double standard which merely reverses old sexist attitudes and replaces them with new ones. Older men and younger women bad. Older women and younger men fine.
In the end though the film dissatisfies even those who uphold this new double standard. It's even more conservative than that. Date within five years of your own age people. Even some women critics, to whom you might expect this movie to appeal, have said they don't believe the final scene for a second. Neither do I.
In the nineteen-fifties Douglas Sirk directed the wonderful "All that Heaven Allows", in which a middle-aged Jane Wyman fell for a young Rock Hudson. It was a plea for openness in judging the relationships of others, and it's sometimes depressing to realise that in some ways, and particularly in some PC ways, Hollywood is more conservative now than it was in those days, merely replacing the prejudices of one era with those of another.
Like many others, I lament the fact that Hollywood puts many fine actresses out to seed too early. I do wish we had more romances involving older men AND women. I quite liked - for instance - Australian directors Paul Cox's "Innocence" which was about a love affair between two people in their seventies. But, even - or maybe especially - those of us who'd like to see movies skewed a little less to youth audiences deserve a lot better than the audience pandering of "Something's Gotta Give".

Hot Salsa Lessons Vol 1 - movie DVD cover picture
hey! i can salsa!

i'm not much of a dancer and the thought of taking dance classes was just too intimidating. a friend suggested getting a dvd. ken baldwin's hot salsa lessons-vol.1 was one of the dvds i happened to purchase. i had heard that salsa was difficult to learn, but i was more than pleasantly surprised. i did it!
the step by step instructions made it very easy to pick up. every move was broken down to simple elements, and then woven back together. there are plenty of opportunities to practice and follow along. the slow motion sequences were very helpful. mr. baldwin's instructions are very precise in words and movement. me being me, i needed to replay portions time and again. the dvd is laid out in such a way that such a task was made simple. i especially appreciate how he starts you out with the most simple of basics, such as how to keep count to the rhythm. the complexity gradually builds, but i never found myself overwhelmed and frustrated. thank goodness for replay. aside from the actual dance lessons, there were times when i found myself just watching ken baldwin and his lovely partner dance. i was mesmerized by the beauty and fluidity of their movement. while watching i realized how much nuance and style is involved. overall, the production values are very high. the music is fun and easy to listen to. i am looking forward to the night my wife and i go out to the salsa club. i highly recommend this dvd. try it, you'll see.

Great movie!

The original Ocean's Eleven was just so-so (although I must admit a great ending!), but this remake wound up being one of the best movies of the year and is certainly a vast improvement. As far as this "Classic Collection", it contains the previously released DVD, and adds the original soundtrack CD, a 16 page commemorative booklet with stills and exclusive behind-the-scenes images, a collectible limited edition 35mm film frame, and free rolled cinema poster in-pack mail-in offer.

Please we want Charmed on DVD now

Being wiccan myself I can't wait until the show is released on DVD. This is one show that doesn't portray witches in such a bad light. I also like the loving relationship that the sister's have for one another, and their power's aren't half bad either.
