Pirate Stereotypes RULE!

If you're looking for a fun piece of pirate-movie-schlock, then look no further!... This movie has a lot of positive stuff going for it--the sets and special fx are AMAZING--but the acting almost always leaves just a little bit to be desired. It's like watching a comic book--there are always the stock pirate characters of the Evil Uncle out to steal Treasure, the Feisty Female pirate heroine, the Charming Scoundrel, Mystical Tattooed Guy, etc. I did end up buying it, simply because this is one of those movies that's just fun to lose yourself in watching. Grab your cutlass and join in the fun!!

the best movie ever made about the GDR

I am a german who lives in the USA (Nebraska) for one year as a foreign exchange student.
I watched this movie in germany and showed it to my classmates on dvd here! After watching it, they understood the whole situation so much better!!! And even though its a historical movie it was a LOT of fun to watch!
Getting a dvd player that accepts 2-dvds was very hard though thats why i'm glad it is released in american standard now, too!!
Awesome movie that everybody should watch!!!

Great Live Show

After finally kicking a long - time drug addiction, Elton John went on tour in 1992 to promote his new album "The One". It was one of his best tours ever. His voice was in top form, his keyboard playing was magical and he was once again just having fun being himself. Cameras were lucky enough to capture his concert in Barcelona, Spain. It captures the essence of a great Elton John live show.
The song selection is great, although I wish "Bennie And The Jets" was included. Highlights include electrifying renditions of "I'm Still Standing", "Burn Down The Mission", "Mona Lisas And Mad Hatters 1 & 2" and "Saturday Night's Alright For Fighting". It was great to hear the extended versions of "Sad Songs (Say So Much)" and "Funeral For A Friend/Love Lies Bleeding" (as if the latter wasn't long enough). His voice is especially strong on "The One", "Tiny Dancer" and "Daniel". The closing medley of "Song For Guy/Your Song" ends the dvd on a high note.
Also included is a 52 - minute documentary that features interviews with Elton, Bernie Taupin, Giovanni Versace, Davey Johnstone and others, as well as a behind - the - scenes look at how the tour came together. A great dvd. I highly recommend it.

Luc Besson's first and one of his best

"Le Dernier Combat" takes place in a grim post-apocalyptic future and is Luc Besson's first feature. Even though it won a lot of praise from critics, it has rarely if ever been available in the U.S. If you like Besson, read the history of this outstanding film and buy it. (Columbia will also be releasing a new edition of "Subway.")

WWE No Way Out 2002 - movie DVD cover picture
Best of Jeff Hardy!

No Way Out 2002 will be best be remembered for the return of the original NWO (Hogan, Hall, & Nash). This PPV did indeed set up some fueds for Wrestlemania 18, but apparently the WWF forgot about the matches themselves. This was one of the worst PPV's ever as far as match quality goes.

1. The NWO comes out and addresses the crowd. I was a little suprised this happended so early on. They will get involved gradually throughout the night.

2. Hardy's vs. APA vs. Billy & Chuck vs. Dudley's vs. Scotty 2 Hotty & Albert vs. Christian & Lance Storm (Tag Team Turmoil for #1 Contender for Tag Titles)
This could have been a good way to kick off the show, but the match was slow at points and a little sloppy. There were some decent spots in the match, but nothing too worthwhile. (7/10)

3. Goldust vs. RVD
Pretty good match (maybe match of the night, although that is not saying much), but kind of pointless. The only real reason for this match was to put RVD over as a face. (7.5/10)

4. Tazz & Spike vs. Booker T & Test (Tag Titles)
The WWF really had something going with Booker T and Test as tag partners, but they basically let it go after this match. Nothing too exciting this match either. (6.5/10)

5. William Regal vs. Edge (Intercontinental Title/Brass Knuckles on a Pole Match)
These two had great beef together, but the matches just were never that good. No Way Out was the third consecutive PPV these two wrestled at and they had numerous matches on RAW. Boring, slow paced match. The brass knucks needed to be used a lot more. Disappointing. (6/10)

6. The Rock vs. Undertaker
These fued kind of came out of nowhere. Boring match with nothing really going on at all. Ric Flair makes a surprise appearance. (7/10)

7. Kurt Angle vs. Triple H (#1 Contender for the Undisputed Title at Wrestlemania 18/Stephanie McMahon as Special Guest Referee)
This could have been a great technical match between Angle and Triple H, but too much of the match was focused on Stephanie. Again, very disappointing. The two competitors would go on to have a good cage match on RAW a couple of weeks later. (7/10)

8. Stone Cold Steve Austin vs. Chris Jericho (Undisputed Title)
Good match, but not PPV main event quality. These two just did not mesh well together. Good ending. (7/10)

If you are a fan of good wrestling, do not buy this DVD. The matches are horrible. The only people I would recommend buying this is fans that are into historic events in wrestling (NWO joining the WWF was a big deal).

Overall Rating: 5/10

You won't regret buying this.

I do agree that Liz Taylor outdoes herself in this film....but the real star is undoubtedly Newman. His brooding southern boy routine steals the show - fine acting at its very best. And not only that. The entire cast is outstanding. It's an overall well-made film.

One Good Movie, Two Controversies

If you only ever listen to one commentary on a DVD, it should be this one.
First off, I'll just let you know that I'm leaving my opinions out of this review. Just take three hours and sit down and watch this movie. If thats all you take from it, then that is fine. If, for some reason, this movie inspires you to head to your local library and write a few request letters to the National Archives, then you have truly found the meaning of Oliver Stone's film JFK. This is not a rewriting of history, it is an interpretation by a man who put 4 plus years of research into the work and uncovered as many new leads and facts as anyone had in the twenty years prior.
It is amazing how many of the so-called "made up facts" and "rewriting of history" has been proven to be correct in the subsequent releases by the house sub-committee on assasinations and the freedom of information acts committee reviews following the release of the film in the early and mid 1990s. Thank Stone and this films controversialities for much of the information you now have about the JFK assasination. Put the facts together for yourself, they would expect you to believe everything you see and read. There are many books and resources on this and many websites where you can read or listen to the actual testimonies, I would ask all those who slam this film to do the same. Do a little free-minded investigation of your own. Good luck.
