Phenomenal movie with a positive story of hope.

Life Is Beautiful manipulates the magnificent language of Italian, together with a great cast to make it one of the best movies of all time. Lost in the story line, one is able to forget the subtitles and the horror of the World War II concentration camp and focus on the beauty of life. This film is a must see for all who love a little romance, combined with a little adventure and desire to remember what makes it true: Life is Beautiful.

Because the story is about surfer and surfing.the sound is very important, i think.anyway, if you have seen this movie before and like it, you should have this title. the sound and clear screen will make you happy and satisfy. and you'll see what the "100% adrenalin" is.

The Professional - movie DVD cover picture
The International Version Proves That We Americans Are Crazy

I loved the edited version of this film. Really loved it. But compared with the uncut Leon, The Professional is terrible. I can't overemphasize how much those cut 24 minutes add to the story.
Leon is one of my favorite movies. At its heart is an archetypal story. (Don't read the following line if you don't want a mini-spoiler.) The film is about a man who is dead when alive and then dies once he learns to live. The basic story has been told many times before, but that doesn't detract from the power of this film.
Natalie Portman, in her first and arguably best performance, displays an emotional range that is stunning (and at times disconcerting) to see in a 12-year-old girl. She has the power to make you _believe_. There are few actors out there who can so effortlessly convince the viewer that what they are seeing is real. And this from a 12-year-old!
The American version excised the heart of the relationship between the two main characters, Leon (Jean Reno) and Mathilda (Portman). It cut out Mathilda's displays of nascent sexuality even though _nothing happens_. Leon is far too good a man to lay a finger on Mathilda in that way, yet American test audiences complained, so the film was cut. In the process they also axed several important scenes, such as Leon explaining what led him to become an assassin, which in the American version was hinted but then never developed. The International Version also shows us why and how Mathilda would be gutsy enough to actually go after the man who murdered her family. The 24 minutes that were cut from this film were essential to the story in so many ways.
The remarkable thing is that I loved the _other_ version!
If you loved, liked, or even just enjoyed The Professional, then I strongly suggest you see Leon -- it is worlds better.

"A movie that speaks for the unspoken."

This movie was amazing! Yimou does an excellent job portraying how an ordinary, apolitical family survives great political upheaval and personal sorrow. Ge You and Gong Li give two amazing performances. You are wrapped up in the movie within minutes and soon feeling the same emotions as the actors. You don't know whether to laugh or cry, shout hurrah or ball your eyes out, or walk away feeling grateful or depressed. There is never a dull moment in this film-you are either caught up in the dialogue, or entranced by the amazing cinematography. It is truly one of the greatest movies of all time.

Wow the Highway!

It has been a LONG time since I first saw this movie. I loved it then and would love to see it again! Yet, from where I sit now, it does not look like it will run again on TV and if I were to stand now, I would not see it made into the DVD format for our future Pow Wow Highway folks to see and enjoy! So sad this is that now my heart is downcast and full of tears. When will the powers that be turn their attention to this wonderfully astute film so the future may gaze into the past & see with clarity the way in which we must walk?

Cowboy Bebop does not have an equal...

There are very very few anime series which the viewer is drawn into so complete as this one. It plays off every emotion under the spectrum, from hatred to love to comedy. You're laughing one minute and on the edge of your seat the next.
This last DVD in may very well contain the best four episodes of the entire series (although the two-parter "Jupiter Jazz" on DVD #3 is close behind in that). Everything is brought to conclusion and in a very adult manner. If you're looking for the brave hero walking off into the sunset, think again. But this is even more reason to see this series. The story is as real as it can be, as gut wrenching as anything, and while the ending isn't what you may want to see, you're still left feeling fullfilled.
This series is worth the money to buy. And if you've come through the past 5 DVDs already, then there isn't any reason to be reading this review, you should already have bought this DVD.

Truly, Madly, Deeply - movie DVD cover picture
, Rickman and Stevenson are brilliant

I watch this movie whenever I can. I have studied acting but this movie is so much more than just a copied script with great actors. We see in front of our eyes the true grieving process and can laugh at it. We see how a person dependant on another who has died slowly and with a few steps backwards at time move forward with her life. We also see how it might be if a loved one who has passed just might show up and decide to not only stick around but bring his friends with such comedic timing that it is believable and rolling on the floor laughing. When the final break between the two happens one can almost feel it inside themselves. Juliet Stevenson and Alan Rickman are brilliant in any movie they are in, but in this movie, even when one thinks they are going mad themselves, it brings a closure to one's own loss of loved ones. This movie may never end up a best seller or known of by many, but it will be a classic forever. It is a movie where all actors have an opportunity to shine and none disappoint us. One can feel the chemistry between every character.

Tear inducingly funny at times.

Did you ever think that Spinal Tap was a real group? Then you were probably appalled at their appearances on the late shows! But if you were like me you became an instant fan once you knew the secret.
So, is the Criterion DVD good? Yes! But don't go searching for the Break Like The Wind stuff because it ain't there. Several of the best videos were included on the 1992 VHS release. But they are missed in this DVD form. What IS included is great! A lot of outtakes-some funny, some not. Although several bits I feel could've stayed in, you'll agree that they used the best stuff for the final film. It's interesting to note that most drug references and all the nudity was clipped from the film. Also, the actress from the movie "Just One Of The Guys" was clipped. The new lead guitar player was a very interesting idea. Perhaps that should've stayed in. Other material: commercials, promotional materials, complete videos, interviews (such as the Flower People press conference), and more. Plan to spend almost 3 and a half hours on this DVD. It's great fun! The DVD interface is one of my favorites; with new stuff recorded just for the DVD presentation.
So put this in your machine, crank it up (the sound quality is pretty good) and put Spinal Tap on BEFORE the puppet show!

The Tenenbaums

Those individuals giving this movie one star and saying it "wasn't funny" are simply incapable of understanding a movie at this level, and would probably be more satisified with something from the Adam Sandler collection.
With that out of the way, I LOVE this movie. It's everything a movie should be. It was very funny, but in a very subtle way. The cast of this movie is perfect. As usual Bill Murray adds his usual quirkiness, Gwyneth Paltrow's performance as Margot was amazing...and of course, who could forget Pagoda, who has a spot in all of Wes Anderson's movies. The set of the movie is amazing--check out the 2nd disc by the way--it shows the making of the Tenenbaum house!
This release is well worth the purchase. It comes with a bunch of extras on the second disk, as well as a map of the Tenenbaum House! Check it out, it's well worth a viewing.
