Perfection

If you loved the show, you'll love the DVD set. It lacks nothing. The show never looked or sounded better, and with the laugh track gone the show can finally be seen as it was meant to be, as a drama, not a comedy.

A Walk to Remember Would you always remember this?

I think if you read the book before the movie you will hate the movie. So many of the wonderful moments that are in the book between Landon and Jamie arent in the movie.
First off the movie is set in present day but has a 50's feel to the clothing which is really cheesy. In the book Landon was a somewhat "bad boy" because he didnt take school seriously and was a smart mouth, bad by 1950's standards. In the movie they made him be malicious to other people to make him "bad".
The sweet story of the penny jar and the presents for the orphanage is left out, which I really enjoyed from the book.
This is an awful version of a book to movie. If you liked the book I would really pass on this movie it will just frustrate you.

Fantastic! Fantastic! Fantastic!

I don't know what other movie the reviewers of this film were watching, but this remake puts the original to shame! I'm very cynical about films, but this one had me grinning from ear to ear at the end! I don't have enough accolades for this film. FINALLY, Hollywood has produced a film that is worth watching. Instead of filling it with an all-star cast, they used only Dennis Quaid and put together a film in which the actors display real, human emotions instead of fabricated movie screen personas! I loved this film and I'd watch it over and over because it has the same human quality that one got from watching Apollo 13! If you only watch one film this year - see this one!

Thought provoking for days!

I have been a Fellini fan since 1974, but somehow missed "Nights of Cabria", until I ordered it from Amazon[.com]. After viewing the movie three times, I look at the DVD cover as I pass by, and can't help how Cabiria is doing. I was captivated by her resilience to defeat, and the desire for life. Her example of strength to go back into the hurricane of life, again and again, is the piece you need to carry in your side pocket.

Lupin the 3rd - The Castle of Cagliostro - movie DVD cover picture
Made in 1979, but you won?t be disappointed.

Made in 1979, but you won't be disappointed.
Lupin the 3rd was a very popular T.V. series during 1970s and 80s. Lupin is a master thief, grand son of French "Ar sene Lupin." He has very characteristic companies:
Jigen: a master gunman who can shot anything he wants. Goemon: a samurai, who can cut any object with his sword. Fujiko: Lupin's enemy and lover. Zenigata: a inspector from Tokyo police who has been pursuing Lupin, but never succeed.
"Castle of Cagliostro," was made in 1979 by a famous director Hayao Minazaki, and this was his first movie.
I've watched this movie in Japan when I was a little kid, and I never forgot about it. I recently purchased DVD and watched in English dubbed. The translation is little different from the original, but I think they did pretty good job. I can tell they tried to make it easier language.
The most exciting thing in this movie is Lupin's character: a thief who is skillful, gentle, kind, and having sense of humor. Lupin was manage to steal princes' heart in the story, but had to leave her at the end. It was Lupin's dandyism which takes your breath away.
Scenario is also well written. There are some intelligence conversations with political background. Lupin was pursuing the secret of counterfeit in a small nation, Duchy of Cagliostro, and run into a princess who was forced to be a bride against her will.
This movie, there are some similarity to "Shrek.": To rescue a princess locked in a tower, unmanned camera pictured Lupin when he tried to get into the castle, and Lupin breaking into princes' wedding ceremony and said "I object!."
This is still enjoyable to those who are not familiar to the T.V. series. Animation looks old compare to today's one. But I don't think you will be disappointed. One of my friends who never knew Lupin, watched this movie, and said "You can call me Lupin, if you want."
This is still one of my favorite.

Not overrated

American Heritage magazine called it one of the most overrated Westerns of all time and I couldn't agree more. When I read a plot summary of this movie, I could not wait to get it home and watch. I could not believe how disappointed I was. The plot had so many details and layers that could have been explored, but no. It fails on almost every level. The only saving grace is that Gary Cooper and Grace Kelly look good in it. Also, I appreciated the unself conscious approach to references to an interracial romance that ended before the beginning of the movie, something quite remarkable for a movie from the early fifties. Everything else is just off the mark. I still can't believe that Tiomkin's song became so popular. There are so many holes in this most boring of scripts. What really shocked me was the subpar cinematography and production values, especially for a film that they obviously had spent a lot of money on. The story takes the course of a single day, but there were so many continuity problems in terms of lighting(i.e. 5pm looked like noon and noon looked like dusk). Grace Kelly spends the entire film wandering around and pouting. Cooper and Lloyd Bridges were absolutely disappointing. I gave it two stars only because it was a very influential film and became its own archetypes for many films to come. This movie represents all the ills that come from a film industry that was oppressed by production codes and McCarthyism. Don't waste your time. Go with an Eastwood, Ford, or a Leone picture.

Now It Begins

Certain events in our life are forever etched into our being. This adaptation of Jesus' life is one of those events. Robert Powell's portrayal of Jesus is exactly as I have pictured Jesus in my heart. Powell's countenance and understanding of his (Jesus') purpose is without a doubt one of the best performances EVER!
As "A Christmas Carol" is our tradition at Christmas, "Jesus of Nazareth" is our Easter tradition. You and your family deserve the pleasure and sense of wonder this film delivers.
