Ooooh, Ahhhh, Ohhhh!

This movie is one of the best! I must rate it way up there with Star Trek: First Contact and Star Wars: Episode I Surprisingly it's not a great movie because of the SFX but because of a storyline that makes you think, too many movies lately have been without story (MI:2?!?!, not to say it was a bad movie though!)

Finding a needle in a hay stack

There are not enough stars to describe this movie. As with any movie, if the entire book " ISBN: 0451163486" were portrayed, the movie would take eight hours "Audio Cassette ISBN: 1561000116." Therefor they could only show the relevant parts and had to do some voice over action to explain the missing logic. But they did not change the plot or the essence of the plot. And I would not think in a million years that Donald Sutherland would be picked to play Henry Faber. Yet now that I see the movie, He is the only person that could be believable as an attractive aloof German spy. Where did they find Kate Nelligan, who played Lucy so well? The island "Isle of Mull, Scotland, UK" looked just like the book. I am glad this is on DVD, as the as tapes tend to ware out.

UHF - movie DVD cover picture
Weird Al's only starring role is a classic

In 1989, Al's popularity was starting to slip. His last albums "Polka Party" and "Even Worse" didn't sell as much as prior efforts. He had a cameo in "Naked Gun" and a few other movies. This could have put him back on top, but it didn't do very well, critics hated it. Al plays George Newman, a humorous guy with an overactive imagination. He and his friend Bob can't hold jobs for long, and get fired from Burger World one day. George's girlfriend Teri (played by the cute and likable high-voiced SNL mainstay Victoria Jackson) loves him but can't stand how unreliable he is. They have an on and off again relationship throughout the movie. Just when it looks like things couldn't get worse, George's uncle Harvey, a compulsive gambler, wins a rarely watched TV station in a poker game. He lets George run it, with help from Bob. George parodies TV shows and movies and effectively revives the station. Fran Dresier is the station's secretary and has a strong supporting role. All isn't well, though. R.J. Fletcher (Kevin McCarthy) is the respected owner of a high-rated network station and hates George & his friends. He's determined to stay on top and put them out of business. Just before hitting it big on "Seinfeld" (my personal favorite sitcom) Michael Richards played Stanley, a janitor at the rival station whom Fletcher fires for no apparent reason. Stan goes to work for George (On-air & a janitor) and quickly becomes friends with everyone. In short, the rest of the movie features parodies of Conan the Barbarian, Geraldo, Wheel of Fortune, and a full-length music video for "Beverly Hillbillies" which is a spoof of the Dire Straits' rock classic "Money for Nothing." Harvey gets into more gambling trouble and owes a guy $75,000. The station will shut down if they can't come up with it in time. They hold an on-air telethon, but will it work? You'll just have to watch it! Hard to believe it's been almost 10 years since I got this movie (before it went out of print). Unlike some people, the stuff I liked when I was young (I should be the face on a dollar bill for even saying that!) I enjoy today just the same now. Like others have said, this didn't have a shot at making it with movies like "Batman" coming out at the same time. This was actually filmed a couple of years earlier, but since it's not an 'A-list' film with worldwide stars, it took awhile to get released. Thinking about it, it's kind of nice that this isn't so well known, it's harder to get tired of and it's kind of a 'cult-following' movie, much like our heroes' TV station. Even if Al Yankovic didn't resurge with UHF, he'd end up coming back with 1992's "Off the Deep End," probably his best AL-bum ever.

Oh, Lord! What memories this brings back! Sitting in front of the Magnavox and eating Cap'n Crunch with my brother, as our parents were laughing out loud at the dreadful puns.

This DVD is full (FULL!) of material! Clips of rare material, photos of the many fans of the show (including more than a few celebs!), and commentary tracks by people who worked with Clampett, even back in the days of his live TV puppet show on the West coast!

My only complaint is that the entire series run wasn't included. Please, for people such as I who wearn to see this material again, please re-issue the series onto DVD!

"...and now here's Beany and Cecil iiiiinnnnn...a Bob Clampett car-toooo-OOOOOONNNN!'

April 6th 2004 is a happy day for me

I just wanted to share my joy with all the other Freaks and Geeks fans out there, that after waiting patiently... this amazing show is being released on DVD.
I signed the online petition awhile back and was pleasently surprised when I saw all the signatures on there, I thought I was the only one that wanted to see this released.
The boxset is loaded and I cannot wait to throw this in tomorrow night and enjoy....I definitely can't wait to watch the Halloween episode and the Lindsey babysitting episode. ^_^ I was fortunate enough to catch this series while it aired then watched all the re-runs on the Fox Family channel. I hope everyone enjoys this comic genius of a television show as I do, and pass it on... introduce a friend to the show!

A must see!

Whenever I got ask what's my prefered movie, I answered: Cinema Para?so. Noone ever knew this film, so that's why I kept back with "my own secret" and, in love with that film. I don't think it's a must for anyone, but a must for all the people in the world that enjoy life at it's profound sources...

The Scorpion's where never that big back home.

The Stop-motion animation can't be beat, Good story, this is over all O'Brian's best work, King Kong (1933) is work famed, for the life like animation, Black Scorpion is the best quality stop-motion animation ever made by O'Brian. It's also to a large degree, unknown by anyone that isn't a animatar of stop-motion puppets. Its to bad, this is the film to study to learn just how good stop-motion can be.

Touching and Bittersweet

The movie put you against the wall, by sure. A brillant plot, excelent performances and a very very difficult matter. This movie will remove all sleep emotions, and if you can liberate yourself of any kind of prejudice at the end you need to revaluate all your values. Everything's on trial: a kind of relationship usually condemned by everybody, told as a tender love affair that, I dare to say, is pure and satisfying. My only concern are the performances of the first and last parts of the movie, that maybe does not match the brilliant and puzzling middle part. Anyway, you must see it, but being strong.

Rushmore - movie DVD cover picture
Could it be? Yes! My favorite movie EVER!

I enjoyed Rushmore in the theatre, and have found that it only improves on repeat viewing. From the first scene of Max solving(?) "the hardest geometry problem in the world," to the last bittersweet shot of him and Miss Cross moving onto the dance floor, Rushmore has a sweetly sad and humorous tone that is unique. Is it a comedy? Drama? Coming of age story? Whatever you may classify it, you, too, will become a member of the Max Fischer Fan Club. The soundtrack, I might add, is also mighty fine.
