One of the most important films in my life

Carpenter's 2nd best. The fact that I'm a loser who does nothing but sit in a room all day and watch movies all day and has no friends and dreams of making movies of his own some day. This is the 2nd most inspiring movie in my life No.1 is Halloween. No 3. is Ghostbusters No 4. is The Thing. and No. 5 is Big Trouble In Little China. I'm not really sure what to say because words can't explain how much I love this movie but I wiil say this Incredible movie very ahead of it's time amazing story, amazing cast including western legends Lee Van Cleef and Ernest Borgnine and my favorite actor of all time Donald Pleasence, Amazing photography by Dean Cundey who I think is the best of all time, the best character of all time (besides Michael Myers) Snake Plissken, best Director of all time and I really really mean that, very funny ending just amazing and believe me I really really mean that too. I will Never forget it. Well I'm gonna go watch some more movies I'm thinking about watching Prince Of Darkness or maybe Halloween 4 The Return of Michael Myers well so long.

Short Sessions and to the Point

This video is great. The different moves focus on a particular body area in a short session. Even though the sessions are short you get a great workout. The short sessions are great when you are trying to workout with a newborn that does not sleep in long sessions. There are three separate workouts--so you can move to the next when you are ready. The best part is that you feel good about yourself after you workout.

Another Great Family Movie

More good clean fun for the whole family. This movie has a couple of my favorite actresses: Joan Cusack who we see EVERYWHERE and love, Kim Cattrall from Sex and the city (and of course Mannequin, lol), Michelle Trachtenberg who also played Buffy's sister Dawn in Buffy: The Series. This movie tells the story of a self proclaimed "science geek" who accidentally finds her calling as a figure skater. Will she turn down Harvard for the Olympics? Watch and see.

Dance, baby, dance...

A mysterious ballet academy. Two ambiguous ladies. A Snowwhite prototype. Killer dogs. Hands coming out from the dark. Throat-cutting razors. Black magic seances. And the direction of Dario Argento. What better could one expect? Answer: Anchor Bay Entertainment's work!Presented in a new film transfer supervised by Argento and cinematographer Luciano Tovoli, SUSPIRIA is offered in a wonderful 3-disc package. Disc 1 shows the movie in a widescreen presentation (2.35.1) enhanced for 16x9 TVs and in Dolby Sorround 2.0 for the Frenc and Italian Soundtrack. The English Soundtrack is presented in Dolby Digital Sorround EX and in 6.1 DTS-ES! A sight for sore ears!!!! Extra features present different theatrical trailers, TV spots, radio spots, the original Daemonia music video, poster and still gallery and the usual talent bios. Disc 2 shows an unprecedently released interview named SUSPIRIA: 25TH ANNIVERSARY, an all-new 52-minute documentary featuring director and co-writer Dario Argento, co-writer Daria Nicolodi, cinematographer Luciano Tovoli, Goblin, stars Jessica Harper, Stefania Casini and Udo Kier (appearing also in a funny easter-egg: find a clue related to Argento's first movie in the menu and click on it!) Disc 3 is the original Soundtrack Cd performed by the Goblin. The package presents also a 32-page booklet on the story of the movie, with a lot of pics, and 10 great lobby cards. What are you waiting for? The witches are back....

That's the way it is SE

This is in my opinion the best dvd available of the King of Rock'n'Roll : Elvis Presley. All shows were filmed during his 3rd Las Vegas season in August 1970 at the International Showroom. This is absolutely wonderful work from the world's greatest entertainer.

The second edition won't show the talking fans anymore, only Elvis. You'll see Elvis rehearsing in Culver City with the TCB band, and then the show will start in Las Vegas. Nothing but powerfull rock'n'roll songs, classics and new ballads.

The show is digital remastered, which makes you wonder if it was yesterday instead of 35 years ago. 5 stars for this dvd. Even if you're not a fan, you will be one after seeing That's The Way It Is SE.

Believable fiction

Yes, the plot of this movie is fiction. Zietzev arrived in Staligrad an accomplished sniper with a well-equipped Siberian division, for instance. However, there are a number of reviews attacking the believability of this fiction that are quite off.

First: Front line romance. It happened in the Red Army, and not rarely. The Soviet Union went so far as to lift the ban on abortions for service women (if they so chose) so they could continue to fight. While the love story is certainly not the best written ever (Two men see one woman who sees them back. DING - love triangle.), it doesn't detract from the realism of the story.

Second: Snipers navigating wound the city undetected by the enemy. Hundreds of snipers on both sides did. Granted, as a sniper you were MUCH more likey to die than your comrades, but but the ones who survived did so by getting close to the enemy and getting away. In Stalingrad, there weren't any "lines" for them to go through either. People from both sides would often assume an area to be secure only to find themselves surrounded, on the "front line" or being the lines. One night, while celebrating for having fought their way to within sight of the Volga (and assuming the battle to be won) some 200 german soldiers were picked off by Soviet fire from the surrounding buildings. You could get through (like Zietzev), or you could get unexpectedly killed (like his first kills).

The movie is definitely historical fiction, but it's fiction that is very true to the truth of the events.

Art House Gold

The technique of this film is fascinating. Basically, the 60 or so scenes of this movie are cut & mixed together semi-sequentially, allowing for dozens of flash-forwards & flashbacks. The effort of building the story out of this collage of scenes mentally disarms the audience, so that when the fragments come together into a solid narrative the climax arrives with uncommon power. The final effect was sublime. I was deeply moved.
In terms of philosophy, I think of this plot as a conflict between two paradigms: One is deterministic - that is, you control your destiny. The second - uncertainty - you are buffeted by random events. Most people with careful thought would allow that both models play a part, but if one gets stuck mentally on one track, then the psyche breaks.
As Guillermo Del Toro's character had put his faith in God, and then he'd been destroyed as, in his mind, God had made him the instrument of death. Or Naomi Watt's being in the same mental point, with her family gone, wanting to then close the circle by pursuing revenge. I.E. - Someone was at fault.
But sometimes there is nobody at fault. Events occur without cause or explanation so the circle can never be closed. But we're hard-wired - we have to try to close the circle.
Naomi wants revenge. Guillermo longs for death as punishment, or is broken in a meaningless existence he cannot understand. Their psychic pain is palpable
This dichotomy is at the heart of the human condition - we can understand chance, or luck, but we cannot mentally accept our complete helplessness.. If we do, other issues begin to surface. What is the meaning of our lives? Is there any, if G-d is so far away and so uncaring? This worldview, the secular Darwinist one, is deeply disquieting and uncomfortable and very few can stomach it for long periods.
The mind produces tricks to avoid these kinds of issues. The Biblical response is the Story of Job - I.E. God works in mysterious ways. I never bought it, but I don't live in a religious worldview anyway. I understand the need. So be it.
Maybe I'm just reading my thoughts into this. These are rich themes and I know I'm just scratching the surface. This is a deep movie for deep people. Most movies are light baloney. This is the potroast.
