The Goonies - movie DVD cover picture
One of the best movies made for my generation!

To start out I am 23 and the Goonies has been my favorite movie for about the last 14 years or so. I used to come home everyday from school and watch it with my next door neighbor! People who have given it a "bad" rating have looked at it from "serious" perspective, not how the movie was meant to be looked at! It is a classic children's (but also for adults!) movie containing action, adventure, comedy, and good'ol fashion fun. The characters are based upon a gang of kids who at any point could have been you when you were younger. There is the classic problem: trying to save the house, the classic solution: One Eyed Willie's Map and the classic bad guys trying to foil their plan: the Fratelli's. Overall, this is one movie that anyone who saw as a kid can't help but love it now; even if you did not see it as a kid it is one that you must rent, buy or borrow from a friend because of its long lasting "movie durability!" Can't wait for the DVD version!

TV SciFi at its Best

I have to admit that I didn't catch but two episodes while it was on the air, but after receiving this DVD set as a gift I have been fully converted. If you have only seen the out-of-sequence airing on FOX or felt confused because you didn't get to see the ever-so important pilot (the one that introduces the universe and characters) I can only say you should give it another chance.
The show is full of wit and humor, interesting and likeable characters, amazing special effects, and features cursing in Mandarin Chinese.

This restored Anchor Bay DVD is the definitive version!

This restored Anchor Bay DVD is the definitive version of Mad Monster Party!
The eye-popping colors and set-lighting are finally visible thanks to the restored 35mm prints. I compared this DVD to my old Embassy VHS version from 1985, which I purchased in 1995, and watching the DVD was like seeing the movie for the first time! The picture is clean, with no dust or scratches, and the colors are extremely vibrant, revealing wonderful details that were obscured in inferior VHS prints. I would throw away the VHS version, except I'm keeping it as a collectors item.
The sound is cleaned-up, as well, but still mono.
A very nice 23 page booklet accompanies the DVD, which was a nice surprise. There are no audio commentaries, but the booklet details the making of the film, and is full of photographs. The DVD itself contains still images, as well.
If you like this movie and have only seen it on VHS, purchase this restored DVD immediately! It will be like seeing it for the first time.

The Fugitive - movie DVD cover picture
An Intelligent Adventure

"The Fugitive" is what many adventure films wish they could be: Well-directed, finely casted, intelligently written. Never have I sat through a film that engulfs its viewer on a manhunt while the pursued voraciously searches for evidence to prove his innocence in the shadow of his beautiful wife's murder. Harrison Ford and Tommy Lee Jones are stunning and captivating in their respective roles. Though they are on the opposite ends of the law, you root for them nevertheless because somewhere in the film the real criminal basks in his "perfect" crime.
Thank goodness Harrison Ford was casted into this role as the wrongly-accused Dr. Richard Kimble. He should've been the first choice considered over conceited and self-absorbed Alec Baldwin. Baldwin was originally casted before Ford, but ostentatiously withdrew believing "The Fugitive" was a go-nowhere role for his so-called career. Shows how much he knows. Ford has far more appeal and true connection with a film going audience and succeeds at gaining sympathy and respect in his hunt of the real culprit.
"The Fugitive" was deservedly nominated for a Best Picture Oscar, and though it did not garner the prestigious award, the film is a masterfully well-crafted film only intelligent director Andrew Davis could weave together. Could he be our next Alfred Hitchcock? Hopefully so. "The Fugitive" is a worthy and excellent addition to your video/DVD collection!

What can I say!, classic classic classic. Ther'es no other word for stories of Doctor Jones and all his addentures, doctor Jones was toatl dog, three different woman in each movie!, and the settings all around the world gave it that tasteful falvour, this is a all time favorite and worth all $ you spent on it.

Satin Rouge - movie DVD cover picture

In the film, "Satin Rouge" widow Lilia (Hiyam Abbas) lives with her only daughter, Salma (Hend El Fahem) in a small apartment. Lilia does a little seamstress work, but most of her day is spent cleaning, watching mindless television programmes, and waiting for her daughter to come home. Salma attends classes, and she rebels against her mother's affections and expectations by trying to establish a social life away from home. Salma is increasingly more distant, and offering more and more excuses for her unexplained absences. Lilia tracks down the cause of her daughte's distraction and learns that Salma is seeing a musician, Chokri (Maher Kamoun). Lilia follows Chokri one day, and she's led to a nightclub. She wanders inside and slips into the seductive world of belly dancing.

Fans of belly dancing should love this film. It's filled with scene after colourful scene of the evenings spent in the club. These scenes are juxtaposed by the grey sterility of Lilia's other life--the interfering, nosy neighbours, and a brother who keeps a watchful, condemning eye on Lilia. People in Lilia's life seem to be troubled that she's a woman without a man to look after her, to guide her, and to keep her in line, so they feel extremely comfortable intruding, offering comments and judgments that pass as helpful advice. In contrast, Lilia's life as a cabaret belly dancer is free from such restraints. In the club, she is a powerful, desirable woman coveted by the male audience. She can rev them up to fever pitch, but she always remains in control.

The film emphasizes the sisterhood of the women in the nightclub. Lilia receives encouragement from these bold women--especially from the glittering, self-possessed, Folla (Monia Hichri). These dancers are not the sort to stay at home and accept the roles meted out to them, and Lilia learns some invaluable lessons in survival techniques from her fellow dancers. Ultimately, Lilia's game is a complicated one, and the film's message resonates long after the final credits roll. "Satin Rouge" is a Tunisian film from female director, Raja Amari. The film is in French and Arabic with English subtitles--displacedhuman

The Birds (Collector's Edition) - movie DVD cover picture
failure to understand what hitchcock was trying to say

this motion picture was made in the early sixties at a time when revolutionary changes were threating the calm peacful american scene and society. his view in this picture was that riots, demonstations loss of tranquility that we took for granted was soon to be ripped apart. the birds represent all of those social changes that were soon to tear up the fabric of american society.the attack of the birds was upon a peaceful normal small slice of ammericana.this indicated that no place was to be safe from the trumatizing effects of drugs, bizzare behavior, riots, crime, generation gap and all the other effects which were to destroy all that was held to be sacred. schools were attacked.childrens birthday partys were no longer safe.could the birds be held to represent all that was to soon render our society a fearful place to live in. even bodega bay? has anyone ever considered this point of view? if i am correct then this was the one and only prophetic and most horrifying of hitchcock`s motion pictures. I loved and hated it for that reason.

Work out is "on the ball " for older exercisers

I have been a fan of Pilates for several years and so the thought of combining Pilates and the stability ball was facinating! Not only is this a great workout and easy so follow but it is like having a really good massage - it leaves me feeling relaxed. I am ready for the next step! I am not young anymore, in my sixth decade of life and still found this to be great for me as it encourages flexibility as well as building core strength.
