One of the Best Movies of the Year

I can't believe some of the bad reviews for this film. Yes, just about any film that explores time, time travel, the future, etc. is going to have flaws in logic. It is impossible to travel through time, change the future, etc. If you think about it too much, you can always come up with a flaw. If the flaws require deep thought and don't just leap at you as obvious, I have no problem suspending my disbelief and going with where the storyteller wants to take me.
Spielberg tells a great story here. I won't rehash the plot, but let's just say that not only is the story a zinger, but there are lots of great scenes. My favorite was the scene when Cruise is hiding out in a VERY sleazy apartment, waiting for his transplanted eyes to heal, and the cops release these electronic "spiders" that can get into just about any place and then they find people and scan their retinas. The sweeping camera work, as though the whole complex had been cut into a cross section, was absolutely terrific. In about two minutes, we get the entire social / political climate that now exists in this country at the time of the movie, at least for the poor. And it is suspenseful.
The empaths are very creep creations, lying in their pool forever and ever. When Cruise awakens and steals one of them, the movie takes a very interesting turn, as we see the world through the eyes of this empath, Agatha, who has a hard time telling if what she is seeing is the present or the future. Samantha Morton plays her, and she DESERVES AN OSCAR NOMINATION, ASAP! She is reviting.
Colin Farrell makes for a cool adversary for the hot-tempered Cruise. Max VonSydow is terrific as Cruise's mentor...he has such a great voice. And Cruise, who has never been one of my favorite actors, is very good in of his best. He keeps himself from overacting in most scenes, and doesn't seem too self-conscious about looking good or charming.
The whole vision of a not too distant future, coupled with some great scenes of suspense, good performances and even a tear-jerking moment or two make this one of the best movies of the year, and certainly the best sci-fi of the year. I highly recommend it!

I really enjoyed this movie; kept you on the edge of your seat, scared as all heck! Kevin Kline is a great actor, we all know that, and it was nice to see him play such a warm and wonderful husband. I was shocked to see Kevin Spacey looking so different, especially with the full head of blond hair and a tan! He really looked wonderful; but what a great actor! He certainly played this part well. At first, you don't think he did it, then you think maybe, and at the end, bingo == he's the creep! He can play any part and he certainly will never be typecast! A good movie, good actors - go see it!

Possibly Smith's most developed film

Chasing Amy is quite possibly the best written of all of Kevin Smith's movies. Sure, Mallrats is funnier, and Jersey Girl is more sentimental, but Chasing Amy is a great original movie. Affleck and Jason Lee both give really great performances in this one...not a knock against Joey Lauren Adams, but Lee and Affleck develop an onscreen chemistry here that is superb. Dwight Ewell is absolutely perfect in the role of Hooper as well.
The script, as always in a Smith movie, is what steals the show. It has one of the greatest moments in any movie (BLACK RAGE!), and some real genuine conversation and thought that was not present in Mallrats and Clerks. It is slightly more mature, but still juvenile at the same time.
Its Kevin Smith. Pretty much, you'll love it or hate it. I personally love it.

Intense but interesting

Of the few WW2 films I have seen, this easily stands out as the most enthralling. The key is that it is very psychological and character grounded, which gives you a look inside the bunker as the days numbered to a close. The film's controversy is obviously bunk. Does the film portray Hitler as kind & loving to his subordinates and dog, Blondi? Of course. He was human. Mad indeed, but in portraying him as "a master of all evil" we turn him into a one-dimensional character and lose sight of the true horror that humanity is capable of. From what I have read, the film remains very faithful to the historical accounts of what was happening those final days. I also think the film had a very good positive message spoken in the end by the real Traudl Junge, herself. While the story begins with her curiousity and blindness to serve her leader, ultimately she realizes that her youth and ignorance was no excuse. All of the information was available to her and she chose to turn a blind eye to it all. This says a lot about the America we are living in today.

Pearls of wisdom

I missed this show when it was first on, luckily I caught it on Comedy Central. It's such an incredible show. The characters are unique, the writing is smart, the stories are good. No dumb sitcom formula here.

Not Just Another Great "War Movie"...

Arguably one of the finest works ever produced for television, in ANY genre. The first episode aired just days before the tragedy of 9/11/01, adding to the impact of this epic. It took the combined talents of Spielberg and Hanks to finally do justice to those men who gave so much in a war too-often forgotten. Not only did I gain immense appreciation for the horrific conditions they endured, I developed immense pride in the heroic sacrifices of others that preserved my American freedoms.
HBO, the time for this story is NOW! Please don't sit on this release; America deserves to hear this story - again and again!

If I didn't have a four year old daughter, I'd still watch the PowerPuff Girls. Bubbles, Blossom, and Buttercup are the heros for the new millenium. Although Miss Bellum is my favorite character (hubba hubba), I love everyone on this show and can relate to them. You know when you really watch these episodes you can see all the adult inuendos.
The Mayor is an idiotic bumbling buffoon that depends on a woman to get things done (can anyone say Clinton?)
The evil monkey MoJo JoJo reminds me of an idiotic power hungry Saddam Hussain.
That crazy June Cleaver housewife next door neighbor who likes to wear S&M Leather outfits in disguise (yeah she can move next to me)
The Gang Green Gang? You figure it out.
Go Girls! PowerPuff!!!!
