One of the Best Medieval Films!

A superb movie showing the reality of life in remote corners of Europe in the medieval age. Heston is superb as a lower ranked member of nobility who has been tasked by his Duke to defend a small keep on the coast from raiders. There he has to deal with not only the raiders but pagans, a jealous brother and a love interest. The plot brings in all emotions which culminate in a teriffic siege of the keep.
Great combat scenes and costumes make this a must see movie. If you liked El Cid, Ivanhoe or Excalibur you will love this movie. It deserves 5 stars plus!!!

Love This awesome movie

I'm not going to go into details of the story, so there won't be any spoilers here. Let's just say that I'm highly disappointed in the changes that were made, for the sake of movie making. If LotR fans thought Peter Jackson beat up Tolkien, then Wolfang Petersen slaughtered Homer and left his body for the vultures.

The Bean Factor: Kudos to Sean Bean for being the perfect Odysseus. Smart, cunning, sympathetic and one of the most human characters portrayed. Although his part was much smaller than I, among many, would have liked, he was brilliant.

The Pitt Factor: I've never been a big fan of Brad Pitt, but I have to say this movie has certainly changed my mind. Not only did he look incredible, but his performance was quite good. I honestly didn't think he was quite that capable.

The Bloom Factor: There's been a lot of Orlando bashing since this movie came out, and again, I've never been a huge fan of his, but I honestly think he was perfect for the role. If anyone had read the book, (which I doubt most of the pre-teen squeeling movie viewers I was *fortunate enough* to be viewing this with, had) they would know that Paris was weak and basically spineless. Bloom played the part well. I certainly had no sympathy for his character, just as I hadn't when reading The Iliad.

The O'Toole, Cox and Gleeson Factor: Watching these three veterans was a joy. The played their parts to absolute perfection. I was mesmerized watching them on the screen. Masters, pure and simple.

The Women of Troy: No stand-outs here. I thought Diane Kruger's performance as Helen was flat. Saffron Burrows' portrayal of Andromache was pretty good. Rose Byrne as Briseis was probably the best, as her part was a little meatier than the others.

Last but not least, The Bana Factor: All I can say is WOW! Eric Bana was absolutely brilliant as Hector. He played the part perfectly. A soldier with a conscience, pride, loyalty, valor, honor, sympathy and even grace. The scenes between he and Peter O'Toole were magnificent, and made me want for more. There is no doubt in my mind that his was the stand-out performance of the movie.

The cinematography and special effects were good. Not great, but good. I found the soundtrack to be very distracting. It was decent at times, but for the most part was overdone, almost as if they were using the music to carry portions of the movie, instead of supporting or enhancing it.

I went to this movie to be entertained, and although I'm not sure if it was the overall audience distraction factor, or the fact that there was just so much I didn't like, that I found myself actually critiquing the movie instead of enjoying it. (I NEVER do that on a first viewing.)

But, please, please, buy the film. The individual performances more than make up for the movies' (Petersen's) shortcomings. Based on that, on a scale of 1 to 5, I give the writers and director a 2, the acting a 5, for an overall 3 1/2.

Simply great television

OK, so its hopelessly idealistic president leans left of center. And the score often resembles that of an afterschool special. Look beyond it, because "West Wing" is simply great television.
What made this show, and set it vastly apart from the rest of network television, from the first shot of the pilot was the peerless writing. The always witty dialogue, at equal moments sarcastic and sincere, comedic and tragic, delivered at breakneck pace is a sheer delight.
I've long felt this show to be the best comedy on TV. The moments of humor are deep, biting, and uncontrived; in other words, completely unlike any so-called "comedy" program. "And It's Surely to Their Credit" is a brilliant episode: Great humor, great drama. I laughed more often during this episode than in two entire seasons of "Friends."
Others have listed the 22 episodes. All are above average; most are excellent. Season Two has more polish than Season One; less of a liberal infomercial-feel than Season Three or Four (though Three and Four's allusions to Bush are entertaining.) This is the cr?me de la cr?me of the finest program network television has offered in the last decade.

Greatest Disney Series Ever

Finally, what we have all been waiting for. This is one of Disney's most underrated feets of animation and storytelling to date. This wasn't a show for just kids. My parents would watch this with me when I was a kid, and now I share it with my 5 year old daughter. It's one of those very few and rare programs that the whole family can truely enjoy. And it deals with real world issues such as prejudice and gun safety. But in such a way that it isn't sugar coated, but it isn't anime-graphic either. If you or your child is a fan of movies/shows like X-Men, Batman, and Lord of the Rings, this is the show for you. Check it out December 7th!

Best season ever

Viewers who see the current 'Simpsons' episodes on TV and don't think they're particularly clever need to check out this season. This is the Golden Age, not a clam in the bunch. Obviously there have been lots of wonderful moments since 1993, but the slow decline really began right after this season.

THE BEST

I had to write this review after reading what the guy from Russia said. This movie was incredible the camera work was great and George Clooney and the entire supporting cast did a wonderful job. If you had a choice between Ace Ventura and this well if you are a serious film buff. You will make the right decision. ENJOY

a lesson in the continuing saga of american history, timely

This movie is truly fantastic. The story is somewhat depressing but it also leaves a feeling of hope. It's dramatic, suspenseful, funny and sad but wholly engrossing.
The cinematography is wonderful. The writing, casting, acting, locations and music are all superb. Even though the film contains many 'flashback' sequences those parts are easily distinguished from the 'present'.
Also, don't let the fact that it's (mostly) subtitled put you off - you probably won't realise you're reading, after a while!
Altogether, a wonderful film that would be enjoyed by anyone - whether living close to Latin America or half a world away.

You MUST buy this movie!

This is one of the most action packed/stunt filled movies ever filmed. This film takes no prisoners, and pulls no stops, and the ending leaves you breathless. While most of Rothrock's movies are far under par, she does have a few decent HK films, this one being the best; and Yuen having his greatest fight scenes since Dragon's Forever(co-starring J. Chan). This has my vote for greatest action movie of all time!
