One of Sandra Bullocks shining moments

We love Sandra Bullock movies in this house. This one is no exception. Sure there are a couple of cheesy moments, but for the most part, this one is probably her best, performance wise. It's not easy to play a believable addict without resorting to over-used Hollywood cliches, and she plays it well without overdoing it. A few nice examples are the sugar-addiction that most addicts experience when giving up the drug of choice. The gum-wrapper chain was also very close to the truth. That nervous "sober" energy needs to be used up somehow! I was married to an alcoholic and everything she went through looked very familiar to what my ex-husband experienced. Anyways, even if you are not familiar with addiction, this is still a very entertaining movie, as are all her other movies. I would recommend this movie, ...

Lost In Translation (Widescreen Edition) - movie DVD cover picture
A dreamy, funny, poignant little film.

Sofia Coppola's "Lost in Translation" is a delicate, well-acted, visually astonishing film about the dislocation of being alone in a foreign culture and the desperate need for human connection. At the heart of the story is the brief encounter between Bob, a middle-aged movie star in Tokyo to shoot a whiskey commercial, and Charlotte, a bored young wife left alone in Tokyo by her self-centered, workaholic photographer husband. Both are adrift and without moorings in a society where virtually nothing is familiar or reassuring--except, as it develops, each other. The film is essentially a string of vignettes, without much in the way of a narrative line, and the story--such as it is--loses momentum in the last half-hour. But that doesn't matter much, thanks to the quiet, delicately nuanced performances of Bill Murray as Bob and Scarlett Johansson as Charlotte. Murray, especially, is revelatory: his face in middle age has taken on some of the craggy gravitas of Robert Mitchum and Johnny Cash, and the wounded, melancholy look in his eyes haunts you long after the movie has ended. This is not to say that Murray doesn't give us some laughs; there are bits of business here as funny as anything he has ever done. (Chief among them are Murray's collision with a runaway exercise machine; his embarrassed encounter with a clownish talk-show host; and his martyrdom at the hands of an uninvited Japanese dominatrix who orders him to "lip" her stockings.) But it is the poignant near-romance between Murray and Johansson that you will remember, as well as the stunning photography by Lance Acord, presenting Tokyo as a cross between Las Vegas and the Brave New World.

The S-C-A-R-I-E-S-T Movie Ever!!!!!

I'm finding it difficult to give a review for this. I read the other comments and felt slightly aggrieved at the apparent anger that some people seem to have at this film.
NOES was, and still is, considered a classic. At the time, it broke into a lot of unexplored boundaries, and although essentially a chase 'n' slash, retains enough suspense to qualify it as a horror.
I understand that this film is not to everyone's tastes, but hope that they remember it's influence on modern horror. The special effects were trying to break new grounds, and achieved this to a great extent. Compare them to modern films, and you'll find them lacking.
The story is based on contemporary folk tales. The 'monster under the bed' who is only in your dreams. The concept has been irrepairably been diluted by the subsequent films, which took the character of Krueger too far.
Take this film as it stands. It is now ageing, and it shows. However, it still retains enough horror and intrigue to keep many a newcomer to this series happy. Just try and avoid the others.

One of the most amazing war films.

Detailed account of the U.S. disaster in Mogadishu that resulted in 128 U.S. Rangers fighting for their lives against thousands of Somali militia ranks among the best war films ever made. The movie's showcase sequence, an almost non-stop 85-minute (!) battle that takes up 3/4's of the film's running time, could very well rank as the best combat footage in the history of film. Only flaw: minimal character development, but the cast (which includes Josh Hartnett, Tom Sizemore, William Fichtner, Ewen Bremner, and Jason Isaacs) still comes through with solid performances.

If you are looking for an excellent holiday family comedy that the entire family can enjoy, than buy the SANTA CLAUSE 2 on DVD or video! So Scott creates a new robotic clone of himself and goes off to find the Mrs. Clause, while at the same time the robot is taking over the North Pole!! Unreal - OMG! This is the best DVD so far...

Peter Jackson has done more for the DVD medium with this release than anybody can comprehend without watching it. The extended version of the Two Towers just shows the full scope of the entire movie making process. The extra scenes will blow your mind. It was like watching a totally different movie. I sat down and just experienced a NEW Twin Towers and it had all the joys and novelty of sitting through the first cinematic version of the Twin Towers.
SIMPLY THE BEST DVD RELEASE TO DATE - EVER!

this movie rocks

"The World Is Not Enough" is NOT Shakesperian drama, folks...it's a James Bond movie, and it works almost as well as some of the better Bond films of the past.
Give the filmmakers credit for trying to delve into the characters in Bond's life (particularly the villanous Elektra, who is the most memorable Bond girl in years), but ultimately a Bond movie is about what you'd expect Bond movies to be about...action. "The World Is Not Enough" delivers on this level, though one wonders how many more ways Bond can Blow Things Up Real Good.
The worst aspect of the movie had to be Denise Richards as Dr. Christmas Jones (yes, you know her name will be made into a pun from the moment you meet her, which it is). While undeniably gorgeous, Richards has a major problem - she can't act, which makes her character the dumbest-sounding nuclear physicist ever.
"The World Is Not Enough" is highly entertaining, and Pierce Brosnan is undeniably a very good Bond. But simply because we learn a bit more about some of Bond's co-workers, don't expect some indie-flick character study; Bond is going to blow things up real good, and look real good doing it.
And THAT is the reason we pay to see him.

One Of King's Finest

This movie is a great showcase to the book. I am into all that old philosophy stuff and there used to be a myth of creatures that would create the world the instant before you looked at it and then destroy it the moment you looked away. I believe this is where king got the idea and I believe that anyone with an open mind and who just wants to be entertained to something different would love this movie.
