One good movie

I recently saw this flick and I was impressed. The idea that American High School students like myself could resist foreign soldiers is somewhat realistic. It reminds me of a Simpson's episode where Bart goes to camp and the drill seargeant says to him:
"You're from a public school so I going to assume you're already proficient in small arms fire."
Great Special Effects and acting. The Spanish troops actually spoke spanish and the Russians actually spoke Russian. Both had English subtitles but it did show intelligent writers. I don't like watching films where somehow the nazis speak fluent English.

Very Good, even for grown-ups

This very funny video has such a good script, that grown-ups can enjoy it as much as the kids. This time out, Woody gets taken from a garage sale and ends up in a valuable collection. Should he go home? Can he go home? Is Andy growing up and losing interest in him? The toy characters are very funny; I especially like Rex, the dinosaur and Wheezy, the penguin. Of course, Woody and Buzz Lightyear are the stars and they are witty, brave, and true-blue. I recommend this video to children and parents alike.

Excellent tool for beginners!

This highly accessible DVD gave us what we needed to help our daughter improve her pitching mechanics. Each aspect of windmill pitching is broken down, explained and demonstrated. Coach Todd talks to his pitchers about what they are doing right and wrong--and how to improve everything from gripping the ball, to arm motion, to footwork and follow through. Our daughter's mechanics have improved 100%. She uses the lessons in this video to judge and correct her own motion.I highly recommend this video to beginning pitchers, parents, and to coaches as a way of mastering the basics of windmill pitching.

Beavis and Butt-Head Do America (1996)

The best show on MTV that isn't music videos, Beavis and Butthead, hit the theaters. The lovable duo who is obsessed with TV goes out to find their TV after burglars steal it. So they end up going from Texas to Las Vegas to Washington DC to get it back. Turns out their senile, hot tempered neighbor Tom Anderson (it wouldn't have been a movie without him in it) is following that same path with his wife and camper, where Tom accuses the boys of wacking off. B&B encounter a drunk guy(Bruce Willis) who offers them big money to do his wife Dallas (Demi Moore); that is kill her, not have sex like they hope, and they are in the middle of a smuggling ring involving a deadly explosive. Enter the FBI, led by Robert Stack, who will stop at nothing to nail all of them. When everyone gets to DC, the crooked couple go to jail, the cops get the unit back inadvertently by B&B's help and Anderson is suspected of taking it after Beavis is caught doing some act in the camper (you know what it is). MTV should put this back on, as the Osbournes are the best thing to happen to MTV since these guys - crap like the Real World, Road Rules, etc. should be taken off and have these two programs and videos the rest of the time, just like the old days.

A Dose Of Reality

I watched this film one night through interest as a musician. I was delighted to discover a film that showcases not only fabulous music, but a relevant political message too. Living, as I do, in a former mining community in the Midlands, I see the effects of the pit closures every day. This film serves as a sobering reminder to those who are not in the same situation, of how Thatcher's economic rebuilding of the South sacrificed thousands of jobs in the North. Danny (Postlethwaite) is so preoccupied with having the colliery band win the national contest, that he does not realise the dire straits his players are in. McGregor and Fitzgerald have the obligatory romance subplot, but this does not detract from the film as a whole. The movie provides lasting images, from the pathetic protests by the miners' wives to the final bitter rendition of 'Land Of Hope And Glory.' The performances from Postlethwaite, Fitzgerald, McGregor and Tompkinson are superb, the latter shining as a man whose memories of the 1984 mining strike drive him to extraordinary lengths to avoid the same happening again. Those who believe Britain has moved on from the times of Charles Dickens should watch Danny, lying in a hospital bed, coughing up coal dust from his lungs. It will make them reconsider.

The climax is a total mind trip...

OK, this whole series was a bit of a mind trip. I hate these ... who simply want to peg this in the gnere of a space western. To me, it is far more complicated than that. This set contains my favorite episode: The Strongest Woman in the Universe. Fred Luo hires Gene to take out a woman wrestler so he won't have to marry her. Wait til you see what lengths Gene goes to in order to get the job done. Hilarious! The entire series is definitely one of the best I've ever seen. I don't know why everyone was so hard, on the Hot Srpings episode. Unlike some anime that threw in a fan service episode, *cough*Bebop*cough*, this episode actually ties in with the series. Sure, it's all about the girls, but it still conects with the whole storyline. Anyway, buy this set! You will not regret it and you'll be compelled to watch it over and over.

Awesome Movie!!!

I agree with everyone up here who said 5 stars! This movie made me laugh from beginning to end. It did almost make me sick once, so don't eat while watching... but even the sick part was sooooo funny! I was rolling on the floor laughing... Its true, if you loved american pie, and road trip... you will love this too. I think those people down there that said 1 or 2 stars, and were disappointed about it not being another animal house, must have actually been in college when animal house came out. So to them, nothing beats it. Yes, I did see animal house, and I loved that one too. So, no matter how old you are, if you enjoy a movie that is hillarious and a little nasty, watch this one, you'll be laughing so hard that you will have tears! Trust me!

I hate musicals, but...

I love clever, smart, movies, which is why this movie appeals to me; it respects the smarts of its audience and speaks to them instead of *down to* them. Whether or not you buy (or approve of) the premise of an openly gay 1930's Paris, there is much broad, warm, and witty comedy to enjoy here. Julie Andrews, one of the biggest movie stars in history, had created something of a paradox after the phenominal success of 'Mary Poppins' and 'The Sound Of Music-' and wished for many years following to shed her nun/governess image. The tacky 70's sex farce 'S.O.B.' was originally thought to be the film which would do it, but she makes an even more impressive departure here as she essays a classically trained singer who discovers a new kind of independence while playing a female impresonator. In retrospect it seems like an increrdible challenge for an actor/ress, and Ms. Andrews rises to the challenge, and passes with flying colors. And the voice is incredibly fine, especially in "Le Jazz Hot" and "The Shady Dame from Seville," which has the distinction of showing the voice shatter glass. It's most beautiful in letterbox format, and has a magnificent score.

"...And God Spoke" spoke to ME!

Anyone who has dreamt of trying to direct or produce his or her own film will appreciate this little gem. It's not hard to see a little bit of the vanity of your own dreams in the two lead characters. What is amazing is the fact that these guys are setting out to make a 'Biblical Epic' and neither of them has apparently ever picked up a Bible! This makes for some very funny and embarrassing moments in the film. I found myself laughing out loud at the filmmakers, while still having a great deal of empathy for them. The movie has a (kind of) great surprise ending also. Definitely worth the ten dollar admission price.

A MUST SEE

I bought both this and the 1960s Batman movie for my nephew for Christmas. I liked this movie quite a bit more. For one thing, it has a feisty female crusader straight out of Vicki Leon's UPPITY WOMEN OF THE MIDDLE AGES. Although farm girl Kayley is Luke Skywalker-esque, she's definitely no damsel in distress ("What's a damsel?" she asks). Also the wonderful song "The Prayer" infuses the movie with the sort of powerful good-versus-evil struggle Sir Malory and Le Morte D'Arthur would love. An animated companion piece to the miniseries MERLIN.
