One DVD to rule them all!

Astonishing, breathtaking, immersive. This definitive 4-DVD set is truly an absolute masterpiece. I had never read the Tolkein books, but have been completely captivated by this most extraordinary movie. Fortunately, I knew the extended version was arriving in November so I held back on purchasing the theatrical version DVD a few months earlier, waiting for the good stuff, and it was worth the wait. The additional 30 minutes of footage lends itself to a much richer story, adding both depth and clarity. The commentaries are enriching, and the two DVDs of bonus material simply overwhelm the casual moviegoer with the staggering amount of time, talent and effort that went into the process of making this movie. I can only hope that New Line Cinema and Peter Jackson provide even longer extended version DVDs of "The Two Towers" and "Return of the King" because the reception that this extended DVD has gotten has been beyond successful. Truly, the filming of these three movies over a 15-month timeframe, along with the commensurate avalanche of technical, creative and visionary treatment, will go down in cinematic history. What a crowning achievement for all who were involved. Buy this DVD set and provide yourself with hours upon hours of engrossing entertainment.

An actors' show not porn, PEOPLE!!

This show is about four women who live in the city and talk about and do sex. Oh, Theyre not married, but GET OVER IT PEPLE!!! IT HAPPENS< OK!?? Also its NOT pornogrofy. They only show them from the waist up (most of the time) and for it to be porn they have to show it all. But the best part is watching the ACTORS got hrough all kinds of emotions from sadness to comedy!! SO get this if you have an open mind and like to watch actors at work!

Yes, Yes, Yes, Timothy Dalton Is A GREAT Bond

I am a huge fan of the 007 series. My favorite is Sean Connery, but right below him is the great Timothy Dalton. When he came to the series he added an element that had been missing in this series for about 8 films, and that is emotion. Roger Moore, had brought down the series by turning James Bond into an annoying cartooon character/old man off his medication. Dalton brought heart to the film and brought him closer then ever before to the character of the books.

The story is surprisinly good for a Bond film, having many twists and such. It also features a fantastic cast, the Big bad guy has great charm for a villian, the action is fun, and the girl is good looking. Check out this and the other Dalton film, License to kill.

Resurrection amidst death

There is a lot of darkness in this film as in other works by Scorcese. But this one moves into a space where life is not ended by death (a Catholic philosophy). I like that because although we see a lot of evil and death in this movie, the perspective is broader. This helps us to have not hope but a more secure place to live; death is not the end, so anxiety need not rule.

Always been a favorite

I saw this movie years ago with my grandmother, and I hadn't seen it in years. Naturally, I wanted to see it again. It begins as the story of a close-knit family growing up. It follows them right into WWII into their untimely demise. A true tear-jerker...and a classic that ranks up there with "It's a Wonderful Life."

Queer as Folk Pack (Seasons 1, 2 & 3) - movie DVD cover picture

Wow! What more can you say about this show? Wow its so shocking, wow its so different, wow its so addictive and wow Brian and Justin are so hot.
Queer as folk has quickly become my new favourite show...and im guessing it will remain so for a long time. So far no show has been able to reach me and intrigue me as much as this one. Whether im crying over the injustice in some storylines, feeling proud of the characters in others....or down right frustrated at where Brian and Justin's "relationship" is headed - there is nothing more fascinatingly brilliant that i would want to watch.

I own the box sets for the first three seasons and i have already ordered season 4. The show isnt very well advertised here in fact it isnt advertised at all. So i cant believe how lucky i was to be channel surfing one night recently. I only saw the last 2 episodes of season 4 on tv and i knew i had to buy the boxsets for all the seasons. Never regretted it for a buy of my life. The episodes are all amazing...and the incredible special features are just an added bonus. There are cast commentaries and all sorts of "behind the scenes" features.
This is a box set for everyone both gay and straight.

"Sy the Photo Guy?"

Amazing-the best film of the 2000's. Robin Williams plays a one hour photo man named Sy, who doesn't see himself as a clerk at all. He focuses on one perfect family's prints, daydreaming as "Uncle Sy." But when some prints come in that suggest that they aren't so perfect, he can't take it. He has breakdowns, and loses his job (which he loves). Now, he's out for revenge against the husband-and the story begins and ends with him taking jail pictures. I personally like the ending. I think this film may be better than Taxi Driver for Robin Williams acting. One thing that I loved about this film is how Sy reacts to everyday life that most people love-eating at a restraunt, watching tv (there is a brilliant scene with him watching "The Simpsons"). Everyday life is hard for Sy, and this film is great, if a little disturbing. I didn't mind the ending, feeeling that subtleness is more disturbing than anything else. This film is graphic and pats, too. The dvd is good, not great, since there are no deleted/extended scenes. Not for all tastes. Thank you for taking the time to read my review and feel free to leave me a helpful/not helpful feedback. God Bless America!

Ella Enchanted (Widescreen Edition) - movie DVD cover picture
ella enchanted

This movie was originally based on the book by Gail Carson Levine, but only loosely. If you had to compare them it would be easier to say what was the same than different. In modernizing this fairy tale they changed the plot, characters, personalities, and even the curse. I love the book. It has a great many plot twist and you really get to love all the characters. So, My first thought at watching the movie was "how could they destroy the book like this?" Once I got past my shock that they weren't the same at all, I started to watch the film for itself and not as a comparison. The movie sets and scnerey were well done. They have the look of a medieval town set in fairytell land -- with a few changes. The mall is set up like medieval shops but the wooden staircases are actually escalators. The clothing also matches the time period (except for her wedding dress and the fair Lucinda's outfit.) I thought the actors did an excellent job with the roles that were given them. They played their given parts believably, especially Anne Hathaway. What was lacking was the plot. Ella is an equal rights activist who wants freedom for all the enslaved creaters (Giants, Elves, and even Ogres.) The Prince is a naive idiot who doesn't want to rule at all. Ella helps the Prince see how his people need him and that he should rule after all. But his Uncle wants to keep ruling the throne and tries to use Ella and her curse to kill the prince for him. This plot, though a little juvenile at times, worked very well except for the last musical in the story. At the end of her wedding she pulls off her skirt to reveal a mini-skirt and they end the show with everyone singing and dancing and character dancing across the screen. If it hadn't been for that, I could have given it 4 1/2 stars. Whether you enjoyed the film or not, I would recommend reading the book and enjoying the world and characters that Levine, not Hollywood, created.

The Funniest Movie of All Time, Period.

This is about as funny a movie as has ever been made. Sharing in the same absurd quality that made POLICE SQUAD and AIRPLANE hilarious, this film really started it all.
