Older Guy / Younger Guy, ---but not buddy cops ???

This is a perfect example of Hollywood at its best. The casting was terrific---- if you remember T. Grace from 'Traffic' & D. Quaid from 'Breaking Away'... The script played to the strengths of each actor including : S. Blair, D. Paymer, M. Helgenberger & S. Johannsen. No gunplay, no crime scenes, no strange illnesses, no plane crashes, no murky shadows where some serial killer plots his next move against the cops, -----just really interesting characters & tight writing. But what is the movie about ? Go & see, you will love it. I saw it in a sold out theater & can only hope it makes a billion $$$.

A Wonderful Family Movie

MUSIC OF THE HEART explores the depth of being a true hero (or heroine, if you are a female). It's about loss, romance, drama, and along the way it even has some comical, humorous parts. In this fabulous, true-story, Wes Craven film, Meryl Streep plays a strong young woman named Roberta Gausperi. In the beginning of the film, Roberta is stressing over the loss of her husband - who (before the film begins) had left her and her two young children for another woman they met while living in Greece (her husband worked in the Navy and they were always moving around the Globe). Roberta takes her children (Nick and Lexi) to live at her mother's house. Roberta's mother soon urges her daughter to get a job so she can move into her own house with her kids. Soon, Roberta comes along with an old former high school classmate, Brian (Adian Quinn), and they end up falling in love. Since Roberta loves music and plays the violin (she even taught her two children to play the violin), Brian suggested to Roberta that she go to tough East Herlem in New York where there was a young principal at an elementary school Janet Williams (Angela Bassett), looking for substitute teachers. So Roberta takes Lexi and Nick and move to East Herlem, hoping that Roberta will get the job. When Roberta meets with Janet and tells her that she wants to be their music teacher, Janet first is hesitant to give Roberta the job because she doesn't think the school board will allow any music classes (mostly because of money issues). So Roberta finally proves to Janet - by bringing in her two sons to play the violin with them - that she can handle the music class and Janet just can't resist. Roberta soon gets her classes together and soon realizes that the job of being a violin teacher isn't easy! All of the children in her classes end up having their own problems, and things in Roberta's life become more emotional while working with them. Then, 10 years later, Roberta is still a music teacher at the school - but Janet ends up firing Roberta because the school board wants to withdrawl all music programs! Furious, Roberta schemes to come up with a way to get her music program back so she can continue having a job. With all the parents from her new classes help, Janet's, and a kindergarten teacher Roberta met and became friends with, Isabel Vasquez (Gloria Estefan), they find a way to beat out all the odds and Roberta becomes a true heroine! Excellent, surpurb performences by the entire cast including Meryl Streep (of course), Angela Bassett, Adian Quinn, Gloria Estefan in her first debut movie, Kieran Culkin, and especially all of Roberta's students! This movie is heartwrenching, heartwarming, charming, inspiring, and everything in between. A must-see to anyone who's ever had a dream and wanted it to come true!!

dj tiesto rules!!

Being a DJ in Canada and mainly playing hip-hop and house, i always tried to perform in a way that i'd control the crowd and get them to not only dance to the music but feel it too, not many Dj's can do that...
Then comes this DVD in the mail that i recieved from a local producer intited "DJ TIESTO IN CONCERT"..i've heard of tiesto and know some of his tracks but never saw him actually performing. All i can say is..WHAT A SHOW!! He had the crowd is his hands, he played all the right music at the right time..started hard, then calmed it down, and then just like a 747 taking off, slowly started playing hard, then harder and the rest was just crazy!
Even though the music isn't really my style..Tiesto just puts you in a different state of mind that no matter where you are, what your doing, or what kind of music you like, you'll just watch and realize how beautiful everything is around you!
Get this DVD...and enjoy the ride! peace!

Lost In Translation (Widescreen Edition) - movie DVD cover picture
Michelangelo or Leonardo?

Bach or Mozart?
Proust or Tolstoy?
When a work of art managed to do what it sets out to do, when it means so much to some of its readers/listeners/viewers it clearly functions well as a piece of art. Clearly its creator is in control of his or her material.
"Lost in Translation" is not perhaps in the league of the artists I mention. But then how many movies are? But above and beyond the artist's ability, and Coppola's is prodigious, it becomes a matter of which means more to me? Michelangelo or Leonardo? Proust or Tolstoy? Those who truly love art for art's sake can appreciate them all, even while being more moved by one than another. But a lot of people are going to tell you the "Mona Lisa" sucks because they'd rather have a nude painted on black velvet.
At this level of creation, it's not about how good or bad the work is. It's clearly a terrific work. It's just about taste.
If you have any idea that "Lost in Translation" might be to your taste - and many of the five star reviews here (very very few of the one star ones) are detailed enough to let you ascertain this - then you really owe it to yourself to try it. I think it is a stunning and beautiful movie, and recommend it completely to anyone with the soul for it.

One of the funniest movies I've ever seen. Imagine the TV show pushing the envelope of humor with rampant dirty jokes and sex. I despised the TV show. The movie rocks, so smart it makes today's comedy look like uninspired folly.

The Sound of Music (Five Star Collection) - movie DVD cover picture

I love "The Sound of Music." When it comes to musicals, there are a lot of musicals, but this is the one which will be known in the future.
There are many beautiful musical numbers like Do-Re-Mi and Edelweiss. In today, there are few musicals that has wonderful songs like it.
Of course, I like this movie. The acting and singing by cast are all very superb. Epecially Julie Andrews, who is one of my favorite actresses, plays Maria very realistic and beautifully. In 1998, the revival of THE SOUND OF MUSIC had played. I couldn't see it, but I do think there is no one who surpass Julie as Maria! By the way, Chistopher Plummer's Captain is very good, sometime he looks sexy.
My favorite scene is the opening scene, "I have confidence," "Do-Re-Mi," and "Something Good," wedding scene and finale. Of course, there are a lot of scene worth seeing.
And I recommend this movie to students all over the world who studies English. You can enjoy this movie with studying English.
There is no other movie musical surpass THE SOUND OF MUSIC! A MUST SEE IT!

This DVD is a must for Pearl Jam fans. It completely captures the magic of a live Pearl Jam concert. From Eddie's anguished lyrics to Mike's guitar smashing, it has everything. Many of the stops from the US tour are represented on this DVD and they cover most of their albums. Again, it is definetly worth your money, you'll want to watch it over and over.
