Oh my god!!!

This is one of those films that can scare the poo out of me. No blood, no gore. Just a total mind game. I slept with the lights on for a week after this flick. It doesn't need the usuall things that follow a horror picture now, it messes with you the way it should. Way better than the remake, even without Zeta-Jones eye candy. Get this DVD and be prepared to have some bad dreams.

The Lord of the Rings - The Two Towers (Widescreen Edition) - movie DVD cover picture
......I talk to the trees ..........

The second movie in the trilogy, while not as true to the book's storyline as the first release, is still absolutely breathtaking entertainment. Some fans of the book will no doubt cry foul at some of Peter Jackson's additions, but the movie was still very entertaining and worth multiple viewings for book and movie fans. I thought this movie would be much more violent and overall darker than the first - I was wrong. Because the movie ends differently than the book, a large portion of that "dark" part is left for the third movie, "Return of the King." If you could handle the violence in the first one, you should be fine with the second one.One of the best performances was from Gollum, a.k.a. Smeagol, the creature that's hunting the ring. Yes, I realize his performances wasn't simply the performance of one man, but a team. Still, it was absolutely riveting at parts. He totally lived up to my expectations, and even surpassed them.If you're interested in some of the additions Peter Jackson added to this film that weren't in the book (or not featured as prominently):- the romance between Aragorn and Arwen is not touched very much, especially not in the second book. Not at all to the extent seen in the movie.- A scene that involves Aragorn (I'll say it's before the Elves come to Helm's Deep... the Elves are also not in the book) is not present in the book. - Treebeard the Ent, a new character in the second book, is not portrayed quite how I would have done it. He seems surprised to learn of the slaughtered trees, though in the book he knows of it the whole time. The same result is in both book and movie, but I think Treebeard is a little too hasty in the movie. Still, I did enjoy him, as the Ents are my favorite characters in the series.Overall, an entertaining movie that definitely gives you your seven bucks' worth. And that's what a movie in the theater is supposed to do, right? (I have a theory about how book-to-movie adaptations may be changing with the release of the Fellowship of the Ring: Special Extended Version DVD, but that's for another time and place!) Enjoy it!

Roswell - The Complete First Season - movie DVD cover picture
A Show That Speaks To The Heart.

Roswell's first season was extraordinary. The story of 3 alien teenagers living in the small New Mexican town of Roswell. They landed here on July 4, 1947. Not until 40 years later did they emerge from pods as 6 year olds. They were found by two caring people and adopted into a loving family.

Now as 16 year olds Max and Isabel Evans and there friend Michael Guerin are constantly hiding who they are. They are afraid to be discovered. The plan to stay out of sight was working, until one horrible day Max heals the gun shot wound of a waitress at the local cafe. During a armed robbery she was shot and would have died if he didn't save her life. The girls name was Liz Parker and Max had been in love with her his whole life. After that life could never be the same.

Max and Liz had seen into each others souls and Liz saw the truth about Max's feelings. From there they lied to the local sheriff Jim Valenti who is suspious of Liz's amazing recovery. And it doesn't help that Kyle, Liz's boyfriend, is his son. And now that Liz is spending a lot of time with Max he is jealous. Besides Valenti the FBI is investigating what happened at The Crashdown Cafe.

As the season nears it's end The 3 aliens find out more and more about who they are and where they came from. But not only are they constantly on the run from the special unit, but another race of Aliens from there home planet. The trios protector shows up to keep them safe and he brings a girl named Tess. Max finds out he was the King of a planet named Antar in a past life and that Tess was his queen in that world. So in the final minutes of the last episode they are again confused about who they are and what they will become.

This all might sound a little too far fetched, but stay with me. I don't like science fiction and will probably never again. Roswell had a special quality about it. The story was a metaphor for not liking who you are and there is nothing you can do about it. That is something all young people go through. Trying to discover yourself and finding out who they want to be. Although sometimes that is different from who you are destined to be.

Asides from that is was a story of true love and that fate brings people together. And if you are meant to be you will find your way to each other. A Romeo and Juliet tale with a alien twist, Max and Liz are the ultimate star-crossed lovers. And the things they do to be together shows the strength of their connection. I can only hope to have half the love and passion in my life time.

This DVD set is great. It comes with many behind the scenes features and interviews/commentaries with the cast and crew. I can't wait till the second season comes out in October. Roswell ran for 3 seasons and was taken away from all of us far too soon. There will never be another show as special and can't be replaced by anything. The show was written and created by Jason Katims who is the genious behind another heart-felt drama gone too soon, My So Called Life. Many first season episodes including the life changing Pilot were directed by veteran tv director David Nutter. And if that wasn't enough it is produced by Star Trek star Johnathan Franks.

This show was the little engine that could and I wish it never ran out of gas. The show had the perfect mix of adventure and relationships. It showcased amazing friendships that could get throw anything. Still not convinced? I bought this even though I have every episode on tape already. It was worth the $50 to have this precious show preserved for future generations to enjoy as much as I did.

Chopping Mall - movie DVD cover picture
Dig the mall.

The mall was a big place for valley girls. Here comes their nightmare. When their not watching Miami Vice or going to a Poison concert, these teen mall employees have decided to party in the mall after hours...in a bed store, nevertheless. As you can guess, some drink beer and 2/3 of them have sex with their significant other. Remember you newlyweds, just because you have marital sex doesn't make you immune to horror death. Follow the rules, don't have sex in the same room as your friends, and don't sneak in the mall after closing time. While our friends are sinning the night away, the new mall security, technically advanced robots, were hit by lightning and are now murdering machines! Some funny scenes of the shadow of the mall doors closing with the robot in front, clenching its hand. An excellent death scene of the first blonde tart to go. That scene alone is worth watching no matter who you are. Corny, unrealistic, but heartwarmingly cheesy and memorable. A must for all horror fans.

Great movie, better DVD

LOTR- The two towers, we all know it, we all know how good it is. The continuing saga of Frodo, sam, Aragon, and Gandolf, and their adventures. We learn from the second installation that the ring is growing deeper in Frodo, and that global war is imminent. This DVD gives you much more insight into the lives of the characters, and background information crucial to the understanding of the storyline. There is also tons of behind the scenes footage that is fascinating to watch. This is a great DVD, and I recommend this to all Lord of the Rings fans.

Captivating, breathtaking, award winning, this show is beautiful in every sense of the word!!

The best show I have ever seen!! This sparked a fire in me that I didn't even know existed. This is HBO's most brilliant masterpiece. Dan Knauf, the creator, is a genius. I will be the first to buy the second season DVD, and the last person to give up the efforts to get it back on the air. If you like intricate story lines, wonderful characters and a show that makes you crave more and more...Carnivale is the perfect show for you!!

Romantic Comedy that Guys can watch

I picked up this film to view because I like Jeremy Piven, and think he's a highly underrated actor in a comedic sense. I was impressed that I was able to sit through a film that was a romantic comedy, since I tend to in general not like the genre. I didn't leave my seat once while this was playing so I could keep with the story, and I even wanted him to get the girl (Lara Flynn Boyle) at the end of the movie. Guys, I recommend you get this film to watch with your ladyfriends. The basis of this film is mistaken identity. Piven plays a character that is essentially a 'nobody'. He drives a tour bus through a residential area of Beverly Hills pointing out the homes of stars for his father's tour company. At a bar that a friend of his is a part time bartender, he meets the actress of his dreams played by Lara Flynn Boyle. She believes him to be a scriptwriter, and gives him the script to an upcoming film of his to rewrite. Piven doesn't know how to tell her that he's not who she thinks he is, so he begins to further complicate matters by building upon the basic lie. Eventually he comes to a point where she will find out the truth, and be prepared to accept the consequences of his charade...however I leave the ending to your imagination, so watch the movie.
