De Niro and Streep did an exceptional job in this romantic film. The love felt between the characters is very touching. I am a helpless romantic, therefore, this film is a plus and a must for romantics to see.

Greatest Spinoff Ever : A Vampire Guardian Angel

I am NOT a fan usually of Spinoff tv series..Most spinoffs are let downs from the originating series..This tv series which is a spinoff to the GREAT Buffy The Vampire Slayer : Angel is a total exception to the spinoff rule..Angel stands well on its own..Very Entertaining and has the power to hold your interest throughout..I watched the whole set over 4 nights..I will admit though that it takes a few to really get use to this new plot.. Which is Angel is out of Sunnydale and In Los Angeles (why don't they call it "LOS ANGELUS" LoL:) There along with BuFFy character Cordelia and a new character Doyle they start an agency to "help the hopeless"..This show is much darker and at times more scary then Buffy..But there is some that has the Buffy sillyness..I kinda compare Angel more to X Files.. Just a quick rundown of highlights : "In the Dark" is the first apperance of Spike in "Angel" and it is part 2 to the 3rd episode of season 4 Buffy.."BM W/A VU" has Cordelia battling ghosts in her new appartment..You will be suprised at the ending. "I Will Remember You" has the first of 2 apperances of Buffy. In which Angel for a time becomes human which allows them to share their love again.."Parting Gifts" in which Cordelia inherits Doyle's gift for visions of people in dispair and the arrival of Wesley another Buffy character.."Exspecting" Cordelia wakes up after a night of passion 8 & 1/2 months pregnant.."She" is a leather clad female demon on a mission.."I've got you under my skin" is a take off of the "Exorcist" and "Omen" FANTASTIC.."The Ring" a Angel version of "Gladiator".."Eternity" a young SEXY actress wants Angel to make her a vampire for eternal youth..Has Angel becoming evil "Angelus" (note is much funnier and one liners when Angelus)."FivebyFive" & "Sanctuary" has an very evil but SEXY Faith the later has BuFFy..A continuation of the double Faith episode from Buffy season 4..And the character of Kate is clearly a take off on Schully from X Files as they even joke about in one of the episodes herein.. Which leads me to note something very important..That is BE SURE TO WATCH BUFFY SEASON 4 FIRST..Coz many shows here are continuations of shows from season 4 Buffy..If you don't you will be lost within this 1st season of Angel.. This dvd set features great extras on dvd 3 and 6..My favorite was "I Cordelia" all about Cordelia..She may be a brat but she is funny and very sexy..Charisma Carpenter has loads of Charisma..All of this cast like in Buffy has great chemistry..Oh i have to mention keep an eye open for dance scene where Angel and Wesley is dancing..The worst but FUNNIEST dancing you ever seen..And in that episode more of that dance in the credits..With all this said after you seen Buffy 4 check this out for the continuing adventures of our Favorite Vampire Guardian Angel broodingly and funnyly played by fellow PA guy David Boreanaz..As Angel Doyle Cordellia and Wesley take a "BITE" out of crime..

Stargate is a beautifully filmed movie. The scenery and effects are outstanding. The letterbox format on the DVD version adds so much. The story is also very intelligent and yes, very different. An extremely clever and thought provoking storyline make this movie a satisfying treat to watch over and over again. I enjoyed Stargate on VHS but the DVD version is much better. Stargate is an absolute must for every sci-fi collection.

Early Coen Brothers, Early Nic Cage, Holly Hunter=Fabulous!

Way before the Coen brothers, Joel and Ethan, became famous with "Fargo," they made this absolutely delightful absurdist piece set in the Arizona desert. Cage was still wonderfully attractive and playing in small, offbeat movies when he acted in this (oh, glory days) and Hunter was virtually unknown. Hunter plays a policewoman who marries one of the cons she jails, Cage. She has a huge problem though: babies. She wants a baby in the worst way possible and all of their efforts to conceive have not worked. They thus decide to kidnap a baby from a couple who has had multiple infant births from fertility drugs, figuring they can spare one. They learn of this couple on the tv set where the husband does all his advertising as a succesful retailing entrepreneur. Things get wildly comic with this kidnapping, featuring yet more oddball characters encountered in their road show. John Goodman was also fairly unknown at this point and he plays a hilarious con who has literally tunneled out of prison. Then there's the matter of high speed chases and forgetting where the baby is. The Coens have a view of the world that is all their own and it is filled with the absurdities of modern life. This is them showing all the promise of what was to come in later films that the public finally discovered.

Very interesting movie

I think any movie that can evoke "Oh!"s simultaneously from a theater audience deserves many viewings. I just saw this Wednesday the 10th in theaters, and I liked it. I had a feeling I would like it, but for some reason I didn't know it had gotten so many good critic reviews! I thought the critics didn't like it! But Entertainment Weekly gave it an A minus, which is unusually good since I see mostly D's on their pages. This movie is about a couple who meet at Christmas in their twenties and rely on the power of serendipity (fortunate accidents) to keep them together. It's very good, and it leaves you feeling happier. The actors make the idea of serendipity very convincing, which might attract more viewers since many of us are more rational and don't believe in that. I think I do.Please watch this! It leaves you feeling great!

Hornblower returns in this two-part film. Outstanding!

Picking up a few years after the first four films, we now join Horatio Hornblower as a lieutenant on HMS Renown, under the command of the legendary Captain Sawyer. The captain, however, is slipping into madness, fearing that his officers are planning to mutiny, and undertaking rash actions that could start to threaten the safety of the ship and everyone aboard. The first film, "Mutiny" details Hornblower and the other officers ordeal as they are faced with the difficult and increasingly inevitable choice to relieve Sawyer of command. The second film, "Retribution", has the officers on trail for their decison, with the rest of the action told in flashbacks. Based on events in the novel "Lieutenant Hornblower", by C.S. Forrester, these two movies make for a very satisfying experience.
Reuniting most of the cast from the first four films (based on Forrester's "Mr. Midshipman Hornblower" - not requiered viewing to enjoy these two, but HIGHLY reccomended!). Ioan Gruffud is still perfectly cast as Hornblower, and Robert Lidsay is still fantastic as Commodore Pellew. David Warner, however, steals every scene with his textured portrayal of Captain Sawyer, a once-great hero who feels his sanity slipping away from him. He manages to evoke some sympathy despite his cruel actions. And speaking of action, these films feature ship battles, sword fights, and a seige on a Spainsh fort, all done in spectacular cinematic fashion. These films are a must-see for fans of swashbucklers, and devotees of Forrester's novels (or those of Patrick O'Brien, Alexander Kent, etc.). Sci-fi fans should also note that Hornblower was the inspiration behind Captain Kirk and David Weber's Honor Harrington, and may enjoy this "source material". I can't wait for a third set of films!!

Sophisticated & Fun: Loved It!

First off, let me say that my review of 4 stars refers not to the quality of the show, but the dvd transfer quality. To be honest, they did a very poor job of putting this on DVD. It is grainy and washed out, and looks worse than watching it on an old TV set. That out of the way, the show itself is GREAT. Personally, I like the second season the best, but this first season provides the groundwork for the lives of 4 single, smart, sexy, and strange women living in New York City. At times touching, at times hilarious, and always a little on the blue side, this show exposes the bizarre nature of relationships between people of both genders, and the sometimes loving, sometimes cruel things that people can do. I highly recommend it to everyone, and especially you other single guys who wonder just what the hell it is that women think sometimes! This will open your eyes.

Amazing low-budget thriller with attitude

When he was only 23 Steven Spielberg persuaded a studio to let him make "Duel", and the result is a classic. The director always claimed that this is nothing more than a simple thriller - 'man in car chased by maniacal truck', but most critics read far more into it than that. Weaver is superb as a first-world man coming to terms with his demons, the action sequences are a real part of the story and the dialogue is mercifully sparse. What is "Duel" really about? Form your own conclusions as you marvel at this little gem of a movie.

Carnival of Souls - Criterion Collection - movie DVD cover picture
One of the most hauntingly sinister horror films ever made.

This film could stand as proof that style and imagination are more important than money and special effects. Though made on a shoestring budget, this is one of the most eerie and haunting films I've ever come across, the kind of horror movie which really does leave a lasting impression.
Out of three women involved in a car accident, only one survives. After managing to recover and start a new life in the city, the survivor begins to find herself 'cut off' from the world, sometimes finds nobody can see or hear her. These are scenes anybody who has ever felt alienated from society or lost in the world can easily identify with. The film is a wealth of unnerving images, such as the abandoned amusements park and dance hall.
Another memorable aspect of the film is the dark-suited, deathly-faced phantom who seems to lurk in every shadow. Somehow I found him a far more sinister and unnerving presence than Freddy or Jason. It must be the power of the imagination - the psychological threat of danger, what might happen, is far more terrifying than simple acts of blood-letting or violence.
All in all, this film is everything a horror film should be - filled with haunting images, a sympathetic central character and a clever, thought-provoking storyline.
