Not what you'd expect.

It's much, MUCH better than ANY Peter Pan adaptation I've seen! It was heartbreaking! The director, Hogan, really captured the pain and tragedy of both Peter Pan and Captain Hook. So yes, don't expect any of that Disney stuff, because this movie is filled with emotions and deep messages. I even got teary-eyed a couple of times! For the first time, you will see Peter Pan for what he really was: a victim of his own stubborness-a young tragedy. Even Hook knew this, while Peter himself had no clue.
This film's got everything: Romance, comedy, drama, action, suspense-so I suggest you get the DVD. It's a truly amazing movie that would someday go down in history as an enchanting classic. It definitely deserves more attention than it's getting.

24: DAY 5

Here's a story for Jack's next day and here are some ideas, open for discussion:
- Jack has a new identity, he's working for covert ops, and is going on a mission overseas
- the opening scene is him and some agents getting ready to jump out of their helicopter to begin their mission
- the purpose of the mission is revealed by Jack having quick flashbacks of the mission briefing
- the mission is to take one hour, but something goes wrong and the next twenty-three hours are spent with Jack trying to get his agents back to safety while trying to figure out what went wrong
- the mission is: to remove a warlord from power in Columbia and take him into captivity
- what goes wrong: after capturing the warlord and getting fifteen feet within the chopper, it blows up.
- what happens next: the team takes off with their prisoner and realize they need to get back to safe territory, Jack leads the team back and tries to figure out what went wrong while trying to get back in contact with CTU.
- the main problem part 1: the group who blew up the chopper have infiltrated CTU and want the warlord for themselves and are tracking him, the head of the search is Mandy the assassin.
-the main problem part 2: the warlord's group is willing to do to anything to get their leader returned, they send out troops to go find him and other troops to take a city hostage until CTU returns their leader and they only have twenty hours to do so.
So how's it sound?

Requiem for a Dream - Director's Cut - movie DVD cover picture
This movie will be with you forever

Based on the novel by Hubert Selby Jr., and adapted by Selby and director Darren Aronofsky, this is undoubtedly one of the most effective films ever made about the experience of drug addiction. Requiem for a dream focuses on four people bound for a downward spiral of addiction and sheer terror, but it's Ellen Burstyn--in a raw and bravely triumphant performance--who most desperately embraces the downward spiral of drug abuse. As lonely widow Sara Goldfarb, she invests all of her dreams in an ridiculous self-help TV game show, jolting her bloodstream with diet pills and coffee while her son Harry (Jared Leto) shoots heroin with his best friend Tyrone (Marlon Wayans) and slumming girlfriend Marion (Jennifer Connelly). They're sliding toward madness at varying speeds, and Aronofsky tracks this gloomy process by endlessly repeating the imagery of their deadly routines. I am one of those people who, when they hear a movie is extremely shocking and disturbing, get a burning urge to see it as fast as I can to see if it shocks me (especially if it's R-18+). So, I eagerly anticipated seeing it. The performances in this movie were truly unbelievable. The characters' miserable pursuit of their misguided dreams grabs hold of you in a way wich crushes your spirit and rips you inside out. You know what's going to happen but can't stop watching, as though you just want to be their for them, for Sara, for Harry, for Tyrone, for Marion. It's far from some corny anti-drug movie. It's a raw, gut-wrenching, unforgiving look at the by-product of a society that has chosen to dull its senses with an assortment of nightmarish addictions and which feeds on empty images of glamour, high life and leisure. Darren Aronofsky has pushed this movie to a disturbing extreme, forcing conventional narrative into a panic zone of traumatized people pushed to the furthest boundaries of chemical tolerance. It's too easy to call this a cautionary tale; it's a guided tour through hell, with Aronofsky as our bold and ruthless host. Darren Aronofsky himself compared the film to a jump from a plane without a parachute, and the movie ends three minutes after you hit the ground. The colors and angles he chooses make the film very beautiful. His use of split screen, cameras attached to actors, and close ups are simply a work of art. The fast paced cuts blew my mind. most teens should watch this movie because I guarantee they will have think twice, even three times before taking drugs. I have seen a lot of movies in my life, but I have never seen a movie that made me feel such undisguised emotion. The soundtrack adds to the psychological and physical havoc displayed on screen. This movie, along with the music, will send chills down your spine. One review I read said that the movie not only pulls the rug out from under you, it drags you and the rug down a long flight of stairs into a very dark basement. The last twenty minutes of this film are terribly powerful and shocked me into silence, I've never before felt physically ill after a movie. Aronofsky is a cinematic artist, as well as a mastermind madman. This movie will stay under your skin for months, after viewing this remarkable film you feel totally numb.

A Classic SF/Horror Story

The commercial vessel Nostromo, which obtains oil from the depths of space for "the company" receives a beacon and according to standard procedures the crew is awakened to investigate. Captain Dallas sends out a search team and one member First Officer Kane is attacked by an unknown creature which attaches itself to his face. Warrant Officer Ripley doesn't want them to come in. Regulations state a 24-hour quarantine period is required and despite Dallas' orders to the contrary she refuses to let them in. However, the Science Officer Ash disobeys HER orders and does let them in. While Kane is being taken care of in the medical facilties, Ripley looks at the beacon and it seems to "Mother", the computer which runs the ship that the beacon was not an SOS but a warning. Thus begins of the frightening movies ever made. It doesn't matter if a monster running amok has been done before, this story follows none of the cliques and has you on the edge of your seat for the entire movie. Everyone in the cast is good, especially Sigourney Weaver, who plays Ripley in this and the three sequels. IMHO, this should have been a stand alone movie. It should stand alone as a testiment to great filmmaking.

Wild Reeds - movie DVD cover picture

I first came across this captivating french film by serendipity a few years ago, and boy was i glad i did. Beautiful cinematography, thoughtfully directed, and above all powerful ensemble acting by an attractive young cast of unknowns (as they were then). The storyline has been adequately covered by previous reviewers, so I won't repeat it. Not that there is a "plot" as such; it's more of following the emotional developments of these teenage characters during this vulnerable period in their lives, of innocence lost, something all of us can relate to in some way. As Techin? says, this is a film about adolescence; it's about tears, and first steps into a sexual and political awakening. There are several poignant and touching scenes in the movie, such as when Francois gazes into a mirror repeating to himself, "je suis un ped?, je suis un ped?"; or when he steals a moment of secret bliss riding together with Serge on his bike (to the strains of Barber's Adagio for Strings). And like real life, there is no neat conclusions here either - life goes on and the youngsters walk off into whatever the future may hold.
Ga?l Morel - who left home aged 15 to pursue film studies in Lyons, and met Techin? in Paris after sending him repeated fan letters - is for me the most impressive actor as Fran?ois, the handsome, shy, sensitive, sexually confused intellectual kid around who the story revolves. Morel clearly enjoyed playing the role and the chance to work with his idol, saying in an interview, "I adored this character Fran?ois... And to work with Techin? was such a happiness, something magic."
Morel, Bouchez and Rideau all bring a freshness to their roles as the 3 core 'reeds' Fran?ois, Maite and Serge. There is a sense of unspoken intimacy between them, which works very well in their portrayal of their characters' unrequited love triangle. Techin? said he and his actors formed a surrogate family on set -- and the chemistry between them carries over into the film. The three principal actors obviously got on very well with each other, and have worked together in other films since. (Most recently this year in Techin?'s new film "Loin" , where interestingly St?phane Rideau and Ga?l Morel are again cast as characters called Serge and Fran?ois!)
The cinematography of the french countryside is beautiful, with frequent panning effects like reeds swaying gently in the wind. Gorgeous!
Just a whine about the disk production though -- the picture and sound quality isn't too great for a DVD - which makes me wonder if it was produced from a VHS copy. But don't let that detract from what in my opinion is an absolutely lovable little movie and certainly well worth watching - it might land a place in your affections as it has mine.

5 stars for the content

Like so many others, I grew up watching these movies and I've never been disappointed. I even love (and I mean LOVE) Alien Resurrection. I don't really understand why so many people hate it. It was filled with awesome actors, original concepts, and Sigourney Weaver was at her best. When this boxed set came out, I excitedly ran out to get it. However, after getting it, I'd wished I'd bought the special editions of each movie separately. I'm going to get into the issue of how the boxed set folds out for what seems like forever because that's already been said. My big complaint is that my set didn't hold onto the discs well at all. I have to fold it very slowly and carefully so the discs don't fall out of their places and get hurt. I finally had to put a rubber band around it to hold the disc for Alien 3 because it won't hold at all. This seems to be common for Fox boxed sets. I've been buying all of the Buffy and Angel seasons as they come out, and they have the same fold-out style and the occasional disc is always wanting to fall out and roll across the table as I open it (sometimes when closing it). The movies and content of these DVDs are fantastic, however, regardless of the packaging. The one pro with the box set is the little bit of extra space you save on the shelf, and since I don't watch the movies but when I'm in the mood for a marathon, I can deal with the sloppy package.
