Not a dull moment in this movie !

I am so glad that Leonard Malton's poor review didn't keep me from purchasing this movie. I loved it. It will keep you on the edge of your seat at all times. Although the subject matter is a difficult one, it is something that exists and I thought the movie did a good job of telling the story of a female FBI agent (Debra Winger) who infiltrates a white supremacist group to investigate a murder. It's too bad this movie didn't get better reviews by the critics. I found it to be better than most ! Excellent acting and directing, well worth it !

Tom Dowd and the Language of Music - movie DVD cover picture
Every person in the musicindustry respects this man's genius

Too bad the idiot jerk who has no brain cells is the first reviewer of an ICON of the magnitude of drop dead gifted Tom Dowd. Dowd was so much more than a SIMPLE genius of a "recording engineer."
I had the fortunate pleasure of working with him and I was in awe from the second I shook hands with the man. Nothing I can say comes close to describing the talent and genius he put into even one of the thousands of recordings he made. Each one was so much more electric and present than they would have been without him. Just listen to what Eric Clapton said about this extraordinarily talented man. Clapton looked to Dowd for praise and confidence to go forward with his career and wouldn't do a session of his own without him. Tom Dowd taught George Martin and the Beatles how to record on 8 track for God's sake. Before they met him they were plodding along on a 4 track...TOM DOWD had already been recording with eight track for seven years. Everyone else was using two track.
Dowd was such a sensitive human being. He could make the craziest musician or artist or inferior record producer, feel peace and confidence in the studio. Those who worked with him truly were in the "masters hands".There is no one who surpasses what that man had in his EARS,HEART, FINGERS and magical intuition when it came to music. He drove me to do things I never would have been able to do musically, and I know that's what he did with everyone he came into contact with. Even in his eighties as we see him on this dvd his eyes are still on fire with true passion for music and all the people he ever worked with. This dvd broke my heart because this man is gone.

Dead Man - movie DVD cover picture

I teach photography and I show this film to my intermediate students as an example of B&W cinema. I have seen this film over twenty times and I am riveted every single time. The photography, the dialogue, the acting are superb. The subtle poetry is wonderful. This is a truly American classic, about America that we can be as proud of as Citizen Kane.

Like Citizen Kane, this film is quite dark, but only as it does not deny any reality of the characters or story. This film detaches itself completely from stereotypes and metanarratives. This was one of the only films created by a white that has received acceptance and praise from Native American film critics (no...Indians hate 'Dances w/ Wolves, in case you thought otherwise, which this film is certainly nothing like). This film is culturally sensitive as it is culturally very accurate to the variety of Native American cultures and Languages.

Buy it, or at least rent it. You won't be disappointed. There is also a book written about it by Chicago Reader film critic Jonathan Rosenbaum.

If only Terry Malloy had worked for Enron

Wow. That word comes to mind whenever I see this movie. Powerful, moving, and inspiring come to mind also. But the main adjective I'd use: REAL.Terry Malloy's world is harsh and corrupted. Everything is done for the love of a buck. It's every man for himself, survival of the fittest. And the most important thing, you have to stay deaf and dumb if you want to see the next day. Mercy, conscience, and compassion are all considered to be weakness.Though Terry lives and works at the docks and suffers at the hands of the labor leaders, his world resembles ours. Our world is brutal and harsh at times, and there are many instances in which being soft leads to suffering. And we face the same battle Terry faces: the battle of conscience.Terry must decide whether or not to "rat" on his corrupted leaders, one of whom is his own brother. If he rats, he will be doing the "right thing" but will be putting his life at stake. If he stays D&D, he will be safe, but more and more innocent, honest men will suffer. We ourselves are often plagued with decisions like his; between taking the easy way out or the hard way out. That is what makes this movie unique; it shows a believable man going through believable anguish and moral suffering deciding on what to do. But the best part is the ending. It is David and Goliath like...

Higher Learning - movie DVD cover picture
An excellent job was done depicting the typical university.

Higher Learning is a realistic representation of college life. It depicts actual events that occur at a typical college or university in the 20th and approaching 21st centuries. Higher Learning allows individuals to see the hatred and racism incorported in our schools that most people deny exists. This film can be used to justify that our society is full of stereotypes and racism, and the only way to rid ourselves of this mess is to evaluate self and find the problem within.

This is the perfect movie.

Okay, so how is "The Truman Show" the perfect movie? Let's go down the list. Every actor gives an amazing performance, the whole family can watch this without getting sick of it, the entire score is brilliantly composed, the camera work is unlike any other film... ever, you pick up something new every time you watch it, and even if the ending doesn't leave you in a puddle of joyful tears, it'll still force a smile from your lips and an overwhelming desire to say, "Good afternoon, good evening, and good night!"

The wonderful true story of 1980's greed....

This is the true account (albeit, dramatized), of the RJR-Nabisco Corporate takeover which took place in the mid-80's. James Garner plays Ross Johnson, Candian-born CEO of RJR-Nabisco, Inc. At a Nabisco-sponsored golf outing, Ross gets a suggestion that he should try to buy out the Company himself, and, in turn make big sacks of the green stuff. He then finds himself tangling with leverage buy-out king, Henry Kravis, who doesn't take kindly to Ross trying to do the deal without him. Then, chaos ensues as all parties involved outstep each other, and try to keep up at the same time. There's more to the story than that, but I shall not give it all away. Grab an Oreo and a Cig, sit back and watch. Note: This film was originally produced and shown on HBO. Also starring: Joanna Cassidy, Fred Thompson (now U.S. Senator Thompson), and Peter Riegert.

Only the 'good' die young

Other reviewers have already done a fine job of critiquing this show, so I'll be brief. I watch very little network TV and never saw Denis Leary's "The Job" on ABC. I am however, a big fan of Leary's current hit FX show, "Rescue Me", so I decided to check it out and I'm very happy that I did. "The Job" was a very funny show, that was obviously a little too edgy for network TV. It's a shame that only nineteen episodes were made before the show was cancelled, but they are all top quality and I highly recommend this set. If you like "Resue Me" get the "The Job", if you like Denis Leary, get "The Job" and above all... if you like to laugh, definitely get "The Job".

Historically accurate or not, it touches my soul. Never have I had a movie that I could watch over and over and still feel the same feelings as if I'd just seen the movie for the first time. The musical score absolutely brings me to tears every time that I hear it. As for the movie being homophobic, it was undoubtedly how Mel saw the prince. I neither agree nor disagree with him. It made the movie that much stronger, in my opionion. One of Mel's best movies. I commend him as a director and an actor. Kudos and continue the good work....

Must see

I have become a big time fan in the past year. I had wanted to see them in concert. After seeing this dvd of the band in concert I MUST now see them in concert. It is incredible. It is enjoyable to any big time or long time fan or to someone that is only marginally interested in their music.
