Not a Waste of Time

This DVD is great. The only problem I have with it is the menu you use to customize your workout is a little confusing. It'd be nice to have some instructions for it. I'm sure I'll figure it out though. The workout segments themselves are great. I used it for the first time last night and did one ab session and one bun session. I'm really feeling it this morning, and I workout almost everyday. The moves are very different than your typical sit ups, crunches, etc. but are not hard to follow. The instructors are motivating but not annoying. I'm definitely going to keep my eyes open for more Quick Fix DVDs, I think I'll try their Yoga/Pilates DVD next.

Many movies amuse me, but few affect me much beyond that. Not only did this movie make me laugh, but last time I saw it, it left me with a warm fuzzy feeling that lasted twenty-four hours straight! On the way up to bed afterwards, I swear, I closed my eyes and tried to fly.

Romeo & Juliet - movie DVD cover picture
I had the entire script memorized by age 12!

I fell in love w/the Bard, probably, directly from this movie! I was 11 (just the age to dream of being Juliet and "dying for love")! I was a fair-skinned, blue-eyed, blonde then (as Juliet was USUALLY cast--she WAS Italian, of course--but, then Verona is "mid-Italy"--alot of "blondes" there--but I didn't know that until 1976.) I thought they were both perfect! I learned to play the soundtrack on the piano, and bought the soundtrack (vinyl) and memorized all the parts. I thought someday, I might act in a Shakespeare play--I wanted to be an actress at the time. Alas, it was not to be...and, then, Zeferelli was accused of "statutory rape"--was it true? Who knows. "Alas, my only love sprung from my only hate. Hell, I forget the lines! Blah, blah...and known too late!" I'm 48 now, give me a break. I like that he kept MOST of the original language {the newer one w/DiCaprio and Danes, while I liked it, played loose with the original. Romeo is still alive when Juliet wakes up. They skip alot of lines. They ADD some lines. And,when asked, Claire Danes--"What was it like to play Juliet? And what do you think the message Shakespeare was trying to send?" answered "Juliet was just a chick who had alot happen to her in a short period of time" WHAT?? (lol)} The updated concepts of "gangs", Juliet as "extremely sheltered", the take on Mercutio, all were "right on target". The "tomb" scene is "pretty", but just plain "wierd"...who is "laid out" like that? And, did Romeo really scream, "Juliet!" from exile, when he thought she was dead? I love the 1967 version. It's fun, beautiful to look at, and more realistic to the time period. I like updated versions, so younger people can at least relate to it. But, us "baby boomers" related to all the "period costume" and language just fine. It also emphasizes the "point" more--the pain that ultimately arises from irrational hate. See it!

It's about time!

The one word that comes to mind when I think of the occasion of Roswell DVDs is: Finally.
I was stuck on Roswell the moment I saw the preview. The first season was the most amazing television show that I've watched in my twenty years. By the time the third season rolled around and the rumors were found true that the show would not be renewed, I was devastated! Then waiting for so long for the's been killing me! Shiri Appleby and Jason Behr have an amazing on-screen chemistry that have helped keep my love of Roswell alive all these years.

Not Moviemaking but Filmmaking at it's Finest

A film that questions the validity of war,and the explores CHOICE under a regimented environment. The Thin Red Line is the finest film ever made that deals with war and mans personal relationship with not only himself but his country, patriotism, his fellow man and himself under pressure. The cinematography of the film adds to the paradoxical poetry of Destruction in the Face of Beauty. The outstanding cast and perfectly played lead present a world where man's claim to what he is is questioned and whether man can choose which side of the line to be on. I classify this as my personal favourite of all time. It's artistic nature is not for all, but it's sheer beauty and peotry speak more of the realty of war in relation to not the platoon, but the soldier himself.

Superbly Portrayed Mid-Sixties Prejudice

This milestone 1967 racial commentary spawned two sequels and a long-running TV show, and won that year's Best Picture Oscar.
Sidney Poitier plays Virgil Tibbs, a Philadelphia homicide expert visiting family in Sparta, Mississippi. When a Northern industrialist is found dead, Tibbs is immediately arrested to confront Police Chief Bill Gillespie (Best Actor Oscar-winner Rod Steiger), who, after learning Tibbs' credentials and calling his chief, must grudgingly accept Tibbs' help in solving the murder.
Steiger's performance as the dedicated chief is brilliant ("I am familiar with the laws in the state of Mississippi, thank YOU!), as he somewhat breaks the film stereotype of Southern sheriffs. However, Warren Oates' superb portrayal of Deputy Sam Wood reinforces those stereotypes; so much so that the disgusted widow (Lee Grant) asks, "What kind of place is this? Who are you people."
What follows is the pair's struggle to work together despite tremendous opposition from the town. In one memorable scene, Tibbs exchanges slaps in the face with the white owner of Endicott Cotton, who compares his fragile plants to "the Negro," in that they "need special care." Endicott is Sparta's most influential businessman who'd least appreciate an influx of Afro-American labor.
As Tibbs brilliantly eliminates suspects, backtracks, and continually re-evaluates evidence, his time is running short as his sophisticated detective efforts begin to pay off.
