Newsies the perfect flim for the entire family!

Ten years after it's release, Newsies is still a favorite of many if not all viewers! I truly ADORE this movie, and would never give up the joy that has been brought to me through this AMAZING film! Newsies is about a group of newsboys who decide to take a stand and fight back against the most powerful man in New York. It is extremely well written, and gives a very accurate idea of what the actual strike was like 103 years ago. It is very entertaining for ANY age. The songs are very catchy and are sure to make you smile! The actors are TREMENDOUSLY talented! I can't describe the talent these guys have. The characters vary from witty and sarcastic (Racetrack) to very serious and devoted (David). Their attitudes and characteristics add greatly to the feel of the movie. Again, I need to mention the talent that this movie has captured. I don't think it could be any better with any other actors! Newsies has it all. Comedy, drama, romance, everything! This musical is definately one worth getting. Plus with all the guys in the movie, the ladies are going to be very happy! ((Trust me, Spot Conlon... ooh he's gorgeous!! ...)) Christian Bale, David Moscow, Max Casella, Gabriel Damon ..., and all of the other amazing actors and actresses definately deserve recognition for this classic. Ten years later, they are still being recognised for it - with good reason! I was introduced to Newsues through my Choir at school. We are doing a song and dance with four of the movie's songs. I am so, so, soooo happy that I learned about Newsies when I did. I cannot get my hands off the tape (I watch it at least twice a day... I know, I'm an addict. So sue me. Hehe! ^_^) and now I am praying for the DVD, because I am dying to see the behind the scenes extras! I love this movie. It is very dear to my heart, and trust me, it will be to yours as well. BUY IT!

A riotous good time!

Travolta is one of those rare leading men who outshines everyone around him. Here he is at the peak of his sexual energy unleashing all the moves that made him such a big hit in the 70's. Olivia Newton John looks pale by comparison, even though it was the height of her career as well.
The movie bounces along on a fantastic soundtrack with wonderful sequences that leaving you smiling all the way through the movie. Some memorable supporting roles such as Jeff Conaway (from Taxi), Stockard Channing, Joan Blondell, Alice Ghostly and many more, but Travolta remains front and center exhibiting a charm and vitality, tearing up the dancefloor when it comes time for him to do so. The screen is filled with energy in each and every scene making for a riotous good time.

I LOVE THIS LOVE STORY :)

This movie starring Matt Dillion right before he played a bad boy in "The Outsiders" was a sweet tragic love story, almost like "Romeo and Juliet." I liked the acting and the storyline. A sweet teen movie. I recommend you buy it or watch it on Encore's Love Stories channel, which frequently shows it.

The Best of Jane Austen in Persuasion

This BBC/Masterpiece Theatre production faithfully presents Jane Austen's last complete novel. A tale of hypocrisy, family duty, faith, and lost love, the film features Amanda Root as Anne Elliott, our oft put-upon herione. Dismissed by her family, Anne is the glue holding them together and fixing their problems. Will she get a chance to reclaim her own happiness? Beautifully shot on location in England (most notably in Lyme Regis and Bath), the costumes and scenery are almost another character yet they enhance not overwhelm the story. I highly recommend this film.

J.R.R. Tolkien Animated Films Set

My 4 year old son adores the animated version of Lord of the Rings, but it is so hard to watch for more critical adults who have been exposed to the live action Peter Jackson films.

The rotoscoping alone makes this hard on the eyes--while the pure animation is good (better than in the animated Hobbit or Return of the King, in my opinion), the rotoscoping is harsh and adds a discordant visual note to the film. The hobbits are drawn well, except for Sam, who is for some reason turned into a blithering idiot. Legolas looks like a bad plastic surgery "after", and Galadriel looks too much like Swan Lake Barbie to be believable as the elven queen.

The story remains true to the book, though, so it's a good way to introduce kids to the story of LOTR...just try not to look directly at the rotoscoped orcs and Uruk'hai, who look like the Sandpeople from Star Wars.

This is FABULOUS news!

I absolutely loved this show. Mel Profitt and Sonny Steelgrave were two of my favorite villains of all -time.
I used to catch the Wiseguy re-runs on Court TV.
This show was so ahead of its time.

Solid Modern No Frills Sci-Fi

I find many people didn't reach the same conclusion I did. I don't think I'm giving anything away if I say Walk-In. Look it up if your not up with the new-age "speak". With this in mind it didn't let me down or become wishy-washy at the end of the movie dismissing the whole back story as hogwash or remote... like many Adult/drama Sci-fi's do. I loved it and Kevin spacey was perfectfor the role as he tends to be in all parts he plays. Bridges works very well in his role as well.

The Mary Tyler Moore Show - The Complete Second Season - movie DVD cover picture
Power To The People

After two years of consumer petitioning and campaigning, Twentieth Century-Fox has finally reconsidered its stance on "The Mary Tyler Moore Show", and is releasing Season Two. The Season One release seems to have generated disappointing sales, at least in the beginning, so the Season Two release was "iffy" for a long time, with one Fox exec saying that it was unlikely to happen at all.

Fortunately, Fox has listened to the entreaties of fans, so we're getting Season Two, with what appears to be the same impeccable standard of presentation that made Season One one of the highest-quality classic television releases on DVD. Best of all, Fox has corrected the problem that many people felt was a "killer" for the Season One release- a very high list price. The Season Two release is popularly priced at a list of less than $30, and is already being discounted, so pricing should not be an issue this time.

Fans of the show are getting a very rare extra on the Season Two release; it's called "Newsbeat Segment DM-1509". When the MTM Enterprises crew visited the Twin Cities in early 1970 to shoot the famous opening credits, a real Minneapolis TV station did a news feature on the filming. That film, forgotten for over three decades, has been unearthed, and should give fans a "first day" look at the creation of the show.

Thanks to Fox for listening to fans, and here's hoping that the new release will lead to availability of more "Mary Tyler Moore Show" seasons. It should: this is one series that just got better as it went along.
