Olive, the Other Reindeer - movie DVD cover picture
New Christmas Classic

Let me get to the point:
1. Only written Christmas word on a storefront is written "X-Mas" This should be offensive to any real Christian
2. Penquin refers to pornography in explaining away his reckless lifestyle (dirty magazines)
3. There is a burly lumberjack character in bar who, along with irreverent reindeer, physically and verbally bully Olive. Eventually they are told off by Olive and feel guilty. It's then that we find out that the lumberjack character's name is "Round Young Virgin." How offensive is that!
3. Finally when Olive finally arrives at the North Pole we see at least 4 or 5 shots of of Santa's castle. And what's perch up on the highest tower??? A Mennorah!!!
(...)
Excuse me for not sounding very Christian myself, but I wanted to do my part to inform fellow "true" Christians that they should stand clear of this horrific rendition of an otherwise wonderful Christmas story by Michael "Christ"ie.
Which reminds me, beware the illustrated version by J. Otto and Vivian Walsh. Although not nearly as offensive as the video, it never, not once mentions the word Christmas in print. Hmmm...
Read between the lines folks.
God Bless

The Barbra Streisand Collection (The Mirror Has Two Faces / The Prince of Tides / The Way We Were) - movie DVD cover picture
3 classics from Streisand

This is a nice value packed DVD with three of Barbra Streisand's movies. This includes THE WAY WE WERE (1973), THE PRINCE OF TIDES (1991) and THE MIRROR HAS TWO FACES (1996).

She stars opposite Robert Redford in THE WAY WE WERE, a movie which won Academy Awards for Best Score and Best Song ("The Way We Were") in 1973, she was also nominated for Best Actress. It's an interesting movie, and great love story, about two star crossed lovers whose marriage is tested during turbulent times.

In THE PRINCE OF TIDES she acts opposite Nick Nolte. Barbra directed this movie. In this movie she plays a psychiatrist who falls in love with one of her patient's brother. THe movie was nominated for seven Academy Awards including Best Picture.

In THE MIRROR HAS TWO FACES, she stars along with Jeff Bridges in a nice romantic comedy. Streisand directed, produced and came up with the concept of the movie and co-wrote the Oscar nominated song "I Finally Found Someone" (duet with Bryan Adams. The movie is about two professors who become best friends and decide to marry unconventionally without sex to complicate things. However, things get complicated when she realizes she needs passion in her life, and that friendship just isn't enough.

Overall three great movies in a value packed DVD collection! Streisand is more than a capable actress, and these are great movies to add to your collection. Well worth the money!

Better late on DVD than never!

A must for my DVD collection!
This bitter-sweet film follows the life and times of T.S. Garp, a fatherless boy brought up by his nurse-mother Jenny Fields. This film adaptation of Irving's book follows Garp in every stage of his life. The performances by Williams, Lithgow and Close are sincere and memorable.
The film is a bit different than the book. Garp's years in Europe (in the book) are encapsulated in a brief scene with Swoosie Kurtz and also unlike the book, there is no "Epilogue." But the film succeeds wonderfully in capturing the tone of the book. Personally, I'd recommend watching the film before reading the book.
Watch for cameo appearances by Jessica Tandy and Hume Crownyn (Jenny's parents) as well as a cameo by the author himself (as the wrestling referee).

must see for moms and daughters

I would highly advise everyone with a preteen girl to attend this film and then have a discussion about the real reality behind it. So many girls believe they would never give in to peer pressure but you just never know. being a teenage girl is probably the hardest thing in the world. I should know because I lived through it.
Takeyour girls to this film. It was a real bonding experience for my daughter and me. It opens doors for discussion and I think everyone would agree that if we can get our kids to be honest with us and know that we will love them no matter what, we are half way there.

Like a puzzle

The first time you watch this film, you'll be shocked. The second time, you'll learn to look for all the clues. If you watch it more than twice, you'll spot pretend clues, and wonder if they mean anything. And eventually, you will know the film back to front.

Andrea Bocelli - A Night in Tuscany - movie DVD cover picture
Bocelli's eclectic mix of arias and ballads sure to please!

"A Night in Tuscany" is a treat for both the ear and the eye. While this delightfully long, 90-minute video is primarily devoted to an outdoor concert performance by blind tenor Andrea Bocelli and full orchestra in Pisa, the video also includes interludes showing Bocelli in everyday life -- at the local store, in the vineyards, at the seashore with his wife and son, and at home with his piano. Bocelli shares his feelings (in English) about both music and family during these narrated vignettes. He also shares the stage during the concert itself with soprano Nuccia Focile as well as popular singers Zucchero ("Miserere"), and Sarah Brightman ("Time to Say Goodbye"). If you are a Bocelli fan, this video is a must-have addition to your collection. If you're not a fan yet, this video will make you a true believer in Bocelli's remarkable talent.

Woody's masterpiece

This is certainly Woody's greatest film to date. It is not only riotously funny, but also compellingly human, with a warmth, genuineness and sincerity not so easily detected in some of the director's later films.
It is common to read Woody Allen's films in self-referential terms, the legitimacy of which he himself denies. His films, however, virtually cry out for such an interpretation, concerned as they are with the complex and often blurred interrelations of life and art, reality and fantasy (as here, and also, most notably, Deconstructing Harry, almost twenty years later). Plus Woody makes it so tempting to view his main characters not as "Alvie Singer" (his name in this picture), but as "Woody Allen". Virtually all his characters are neurotic writers or comedians with problem love-lives - in other words, the person who emerges from Woody Allen's pictures is the real-life Woody Allen. In Annie Hall, Woody reflects on past relationships, in particular his relationship with the girl of the title (played by Diane Keaton). It is dramatic and funny throughout, and ends on a surprisingly touching note.

I wanna have dog ears!

Right, so there's this girl, Kagome, who discovers (with the help of a nasty demon centipede) that the well in her family shrine can transport her to the past. 500 years in the past.
Okay, so that's pretty easy, nothing too amazing there I guess. But you haven't explored the world of that past yet. You haven't met Inuyasha yet.
Do you know the kind of characters who are insufferable, obnoxious and waaaaay too mean most of the time, yet you *just* *can't* *help* loving them? Inuyasha is one of those characters.
It isn't just the dog ears (but don't underestimate their powers of charm): Inuyasha, like all the characters in this fantastic series, becomes a well-developed, interesting person in his own right, someone you cheer for when he succeeds, and cry for when things go unbelievably wrong. He becomes more compassionate and mature as the series progresses, but, thankfully, without sacrificing his wonderfully obnoxious side, summed up in his love of saying 'keh' to so many things.
To go on to discuss what makes all the other characters so brilliant would just take too long.
There aren't many animes out there with so perfect a balance of action, romance, suspense and comedy, either. I've watched various episodes loads of times, and I *still* burst out laughing at the moments where a facial expression just says it all- absolutely priceless! The fight sequences are near-stunning, too, in their detail and charged atmosphere.
Music is great. Well, it may seem a little cheesy at first, but it really grew on me and I love all the themes now.
Avoid the dub. That is my only warning. It just doesn't do justice to this series. The Japanese is far better- Inuyasha's voice is great, and the way his varying tones add to the atmosphere, and many times the comedy, is fantastic.
This is one of those animes you really shouldn't miss out on. With the epic timespan and period setting of 'Rurouni Kenshin', the eye-pleasing action of 'X', the bouncy fun of 'Ah My Goddess' and the masterful storytelling that Rumiko Takahashi never fails to deliver, it's pretty impossible to not love this series.

STAR TREK VI ONE OF THE BEST OF THE FLICKS!!!

I found STAR TREK VI THE UNDISCOVERD COUNTRY to be one the best ever from the special effects, musical score, and storyline. Everything that was sorely lacking in STAR TREK V is back in this film it deals with peace negoitations between the federation and the klingons and CAPTIN KIRK'S feelings of mistrust twoard the klingons. It turns out that there are others who feel the same way but I won't give it away finding out will suprise you that's all I have to say. GENE RODENNBERRY would have been proud of this film as the series gets back to it's roots. I thought NICHOLAS MYER and LEONARD NIMOY did a great job on this film it should've at least some kind of award for it's effects which were mind-blowing anyway this film is a must for all STAR TREK fans see it again and again like I have you won't soon forget it.
