Near perfect movie of love, lust and deception

One of my all time favorites with great screenwriting and excellent performances by William Hurt and Kathleen Turner. The DVD is a revelation compared to the VHS version I own. The details in darkly lit scenes really jump out in the DVD, they were mostly lost on the VHS version. Also the colors were much better on the DVD. It was suprising to see how much of a gray tone was present in colors in the VHS version. The DVD version had much stronger colors in the sunlit scenes and in the darker scenes colors that had been almost non-existent on VHS showed up nicely on the DVD. Movies with a lot of special effects seem to get the attention of people reviewing DVDs but this film really shows the potential of DVDs. If you like this movie buy the DVD version, even if you have the video tape, you won't regret it.

24 - Season Two - movie DVD cover picture
I have a high threshold for excitement

I have a high threshold for excitement. Most movies are slow moving, boring and predictable. Major league football puts me to sleep. Hockey only keeps me awake because of the noise. In short, it takes a lot to get my heart rate above 56. 24 can put me into fibbrillation. I dream about it after watching more than one episode.

My daughter comes down to see me literally on the edge of my seat during an episode. She laughed "Dad, now I know what they mean by edge of the seat thrills, every time I see you your're about to fall off the end of the chair."

The two spotlight reviews give a lot away. I really don't like to drop spoilers in a review so I will stay arms length from the plot. In 24 just about anything you say about classifies as a spoiler since so much happens and the plot is an intricate chain of events with just about everything linked. Just knowing who is recruited to help Jack can totally ruin the end of Season 1 for someone who hasn't seen it.

The public knowledge about this season is that Jack Bauer is no longer with CTU. George Mason is in charge. Jack is off the payroll recovering from the events of last few minutes of season 1. This is a year later. ( real time again) Tony Almeida ( great character and terrific work by Carlos Bernard) is back with a new CTU crew.

Word gets out, there is some sort of nuclear device in Los Angeles planted by a terrorist group called Second Wave. David Palmer is President. ( hell, I would vote for David Palmer! )

There is a link with a domestic terror group that flags Jack Bauer. He was undercover with this group and is the only guy with a half chance of infiltrating them again in order to track down the nuke.

Jack also has to ally with an old enemy - name witheld to prevent a spoiler. The plot starts in overdrive and picks up speed from there.

The plotting is intricate, all events relate to all others. The race is on to find the nuke and save LA. There are several more subplots with of course Kim, Jacks daughter in trouble again. I guess the family aspect helps add tension to Jacks mission, but that subplot is lame compared to whats happening at higher levels of the government with the conspiracy leading all the way to the uppermost echelons of government.

Like Season 1 the action is non-stop. There is at least one major shocker in each episode and each one ends in an irresistable cliffhanger that will have you cueing up the next one right away not even wanting to take a minute to review the "Previously on 24" spot. You want it NOW!

In any other show or movie the plot would climax after they find the bomb, or course trhe guys would cut the green wire and that would the that. Nothing so pedestrian would ever make a 24 Episode.

In 24 you can ever count on them finding and disarming the bomb. Maybe they do, then again maybe not - I won't say here. But whatever does happen with the bomb I will say that the plot INTENSIFIES from there!

Like with Season 1, I had an impossible time turning off the DVD player until the disk was finished.

I didn't expect S2 to have the thrills and excitement of Season 1 since I knew a little more of what to expect from the show but if anything I was even more out of breath after these episodes.

One thing though, 24 will spoil you for most other TV shows and movies. Get used to the real time format and everything else seems lame. The only other TV show with the edge of 24 is maybe the new Battlestar Galactica, but that isn't the same serial format and no where near as addicting as 24.

24 is addicting and beware. Once you start you won't want to put them away until you're done.

The producers, directors and writers do a marvelous job of hooking you into the plot and caring about the characters and even feeling their pain.

Watch this show. It is the best of the best. This is as good as TV gets folks.

I come up with a great idea for a 24 party. Get a bunch of hardcores together and watch it real time. Start at 8am and play the disks realtime with the clock. Only break to bathroom and eat during the commercial gaps. Cue them up and restart on time.

Mulholland Drive - movie DVD cover picture
Worst DVD on the market, but an outstanding movie.

First, let me get a message to you folks at home who want to go out and buy this DVD. DON'T! It is the worst DVD I have ever looked at. Know why? There are absolutely no scene selections! The entire film is just one chapter! Now, this would be simply nit-picking if this were any other movie, but Mulholland Drive requires the viewer to watch and rewatch many key scenes. Without a chapter selection, you might as well be watching the VHS tape. The only good thing about this DVD is that in the insert in the case, they give 10 "clues" on figuring out what the movie is all about. But those can easily be dug up on the internet.
In this film, a woman finds herself on Mulholland Drive outside Hollywood, suffering from amnesia. She befriends an aspiring actress and together they attempt to find out who she is. Meanwhile, a timid film director is slowly losing control of his life and the answer to all his problems lies on a journey to a mysterious man known only as "The Cowboy."
The Cowboy is an intresting character, as is every other character in MD, in the way that Lynch only tells us so much about him, but leaves the rest to our imaginations. This keeps The Cowboy as mysterious as possible, which the film intends.
As in all David Lynch films, there are some very disturbing elements: there are numerous twisted lesbian sex scenes, there is a small restaurant in which a disgusting troll inhabits the garbage dumpster of, and there is a brutal car crash at the beginning of the film. This film is NOT for all tastes. While not quite as shocking as "Blue Velvet", David Lynch is still his normal, warped self.

Gotti see this movie

This movie doesn't have that much recognision but I don't know how. It is possibly the best mafia movie around. It gives you a great insite into how "Cosa Nostra" actually operates. It focus around how John Gotti came to be the boss of the Gambino crime family. It also tells you how he became famous as he dodged court cases and gave money to the poor. After seeing this movie you will wish that you where a gangster. If you like this movie read the books aswell. "FREE JOHN GOTTI!!!"

Muppet Treasure Island - movie DVD cover picture
More believable than the other Disney version.

It is great to see all your old Muppet friends in a classic. The singing adds a new dimension to the story. Not that "Sixteen Men on a Deadman's Chest" is not good in its self. And the beautiful Benjamina Gunn added a more romantic touch. By the way if you enjoy the singing skulls you may also want to view the movie "8 Heads in a Dufflbag" with George Hamilton.

Talk about sophisticated dialog.
Benjamina Gunn says, "You left me standing at the altar!"
Captain Smollet replies, "I was on a ship headed for Zanzibar. I got cold feet."
Benjamina Gunn, "You're a frog! You're supposed to have cold feet!"

Tim Curry (being himself) was an excellent Long John silver. The only other film where he exceeded this is in the film "Oscar" with Sylvester Stallone.
This movie was nominated for both Golden Satellite Award and Young Artist Award.
No matter how you CUT it this is a worth while movie to own.

Tear Jerker

This movie was on very late one night. After looking at it for a few minutes I realized that this was a true to life movie about an Irish Romeo and Juliet. This is a tear jerker and everyone will enjoy this. I cried for the lovers and the reality of it all. This is one good movie for everyone.

TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD

After searching video stores in Southern California, I finally found a non-colorized version of "Mockingbird" at Amazon.com. What idiot colorized a movie deliberately filmed in black-and-white! I'm so grateful that Amazon.com had it in the original black-and-white and I really enjoyed the interviews and behind-the-scenes information at the end of the video, including a very rare photo of Harper Lee.

Fantastic Miniseries!!

I remember watching Prime Suspect 5: Errors Of Judgement when it was shown on PBS. Nothing was on television at the time and I was scanning different channels. I started watching the miniseries in the midst of the first episode. After the first ten minutes I was hooked! I even watched it again when PBS decided to repeat it!!Helen Mirren is amazing as Detective Jane Tennison! In this outing Tennison is demoted and starts working in Manchester. As soon as Tennison gets back on duty she recieves an assignment: a murder. I don't want to go into too many details. There are a few twists and turns and suspense moments. You will even keep guessing at the end.We even still get to see more of Jane's personal life. The standout performance in this set goes to Steven Mackintosh hands down!! Everytime he's on screen your eyes will stay on him. He's so despicable, cocky, and clever but likable at the same time.

The NeverEnding Story - movie DVD cover picture
The Ultimate Classic of Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow....

Most people who grew up as a child of the 80's have at least heard of The Neverending Story. The majority of these children have also probably seen the film in some form of another. Well, up until now, The Neverending Story has been one of the best flicks of all-time. Since it's release on DVD, it has to be THE best flick of all-time. For the most part, the premise is simple; it deals with the beautiful world of Fantasia and a boy named Bastien. Many refer to this as "The Ultimate Fantasy Movie" and I most certainly agree to that claim. This is indeed a movie where you can escape from reality and just let your thoughts go wild. Nothing seems impossible in the world of Fantasia. All of the characters would make great additions to ones 'circle of association.' Who wouldn't want The Rock Bitter or Atreyu as friends, or even Falcor as a pet?? Just think about the possibilities!! The DVD though, is a nice piece to any collection. The disc is double-sided and contains a full-screen as well as a wide-screen verion, both of which are spectacular. The theatrical trailer is a nice addition, and something I was quite happy to see. Even the little tidbits of info about the movie and story are a nice touch. This is most certainly a movie that anyone, either young, or younger (basically young or old) can enjoy alone, or even together. It is, and will be a timeless classic for many years to come. If you haven't seen the movie, you are definitely missing out on something. If you have seen it, watch it again, and just let you mind soar, because like in Fantasia, imagination has no boundries....
