Vampire Hunter D - movie DVD cover picture
My favorite Vampire movie

"Vampire Hunter D" is my favorite vampire movie because of it's eerie feel and totaly original and fluid story. My second and third favorite vampire movies are probably "The Lost Boys" and "Bram Stoker's Dracula" just because Bram Stoker is pretty much resposible for bringing Vampires into pop culture. "Vampire Hunter D" is a Japanese Animated movie with a unique style blending futuristic weapons and devices within a medievel time setting. The main character "D" is a half human/vampire vampire hunter. He uses a sword and he is accompanied by a talking face on the palm of his hand. This anime is very dark and moody with excellent characters that don't really develope, but are very interesting in themselves. You just want to know a little more about them, their motivations, ideals and their backgrounds. This is a great movie to see which is finaly re-available for purchase. Rumour has it that the DVD will be out later this year.

Hard hitting. A real modern day scarface.

Nino Brown is a smart, rich, charismatic drug dealer. A newjack group of cops are needed to infiltrate and bring down the notorius C.M.B. aka "Cash Money Brothers". Snipes plays the part well. Ice T brings a hip-hop flavor to an otherwise traditional stereotype of cops.

Is it REALLY about punk rock? Who cares?

It seems that most people who see this movie either love it because they see it as a perfect description of punk rock life or hate it because it is not "punk enough" or hardcore enough or just does not accurately describe punk rock enough. For those who say either, I say go get a documentary on punk rock and watch it. This movie is not intended to be a documentary on punk rock. It is about a young man at a crossroads in his life and must choose the events that will lead to the rest of his life. Oh yeah, this young man happens to be a punk. To say the character Steveo or the scene he is in does or does not sum up punk rock is absurd. Punks are as diverse as any other group of people. It would be like watching a movie that's lead character is a 40 year old white man and assuming that he represents EVERY SINGLE 40 year old white man alive. Anyways, our lead character Steveo has hit a point in his life where his beliefs, mainly his belief in anarchy, are not adding up as well as they once did. He sees his friends going in different directions(one is a bum, one is going off to study Botany, etc.) and he now has to choose his path. That is the bottom line in the movie. Along the way you meet Steveo's friends, hear him go off on hilarious speeches about anarchy and punk rock, heartbreak, drugs, drinking, and oh yeah, beating the hell out of rednecks. Does this movie wrap up punk rock in a neat little package and present it to you? No. Is that even possible to do? No. What the movie does is tells a great story, throws in a lot of great music, and features a lot of great performances. I recommend it highly. Very funny, very entertaining. Oh yeah, for all of you wondering what punk rock really is, it is in the heart and the soul and the mind, NOT in the clothes, the hair, or the lifestyle. Remember that as you watch.

He Wants to be Human Again

This was a made for television movie starring actor/singer Rick Springfield and was the predecessor of the relatively short lived but still a cult favorite television series "Forever Knight" which starred Geraint Wyn Davies as Nick Knight. The premise is Nick is a vampire that wants to regain his mortality. He's working as a cop on the night shift while the forensic surgeon on duty tries to help him become human again. In the meantime, his nemesis, Lacroix, who was the one who originally turned Nick into a vampire will do anything to stop Nick from his quest for mortality. It's a great story and hopefully this movie and the television series will eventually come out on DVD.

Best UFO documentary I've seen

This documentary is thought provoking and compelling.
First of all, everything is up to date and there is excellent footage of UFO's and modern computer simulations where video of sightings are not available. Forget the blurry blobs of the past. Feast you eyes on relatively sharp images and clear shapes in colour.
Secondly, it makes use of old footage of statements made by Government officials during the late forties and fifties to great effect. Each statement on it's own seems insignificant but when many such statements are seen together it soon becomes clear that something "funny" is going on. By the end you'll realise that the government position is a joke. How stupid do they think we are?
Thirdly, this documentary is suitable for skeptics and those who know little about the subject. You will be informed about the origins of the "flying saucer" phenomenon and where it's at now. A case will be presented in which the evidence cannot be denied. Only a fool would persist in saying there is nothing to it. People who believe in the existance of extra-terrestrial life will get a lot out of it as well. You may feel like shouting "See - I told you so!".
Another interesting point is that this documentary covers the religious aspect and interviews two theologians to great effect. What they have to say is fascinating.
This is easily the best UFO documentary I have seen and I commend its creators. They have presented the evidence in a professional and exhaustive manner. The DVD contains a 1 hour bonus entitled "UFO's Fifty Years of Denial" which is also excellent. I cannot recommend this DVD highly enough!

From pithy to witty to absolutely hilarious

The features are each fantastic, from the very concept to the reality. Ideas like the invention of automated trousers, made just to help in window-washing, and a space shuttle, made just to retrieve cheese, and both seemingly made from items just found about the house, leave me filled with nothing but wonder. Watching Gromit trying to lay track fast enough to direct the electric train he's riding leaves me in stitches.
It's something of a cliche, now, but this is honestly a dvd that can be enjoyed, and loved, by children of all ages...

Peter Seller's in the role of a lifetime !

According to his biography, Peter Sellers had dreamed of playing the roll of Chance Gardner as far back as the early '70s, and would actually go around pretending to be him for years and years, gradually refining the role... by the time the film was shot, he was almost devestated when he was told he was too old, fortunately, however, the director came around to his way of thinking, and hence the realization of a novel with a character perhaps only a genius like Sellers could play - - Sellers portrays an emotionless dimwit savant gardner who grew up isolated on an estate without having ever seen the outside world beyond the garden he tended to and the images on TV with which he has a strange obsession with (he walks around with a remote control, turns on every TV he sees and mimics whatever he sees while watching with his face devoid of expression or emotion.) - - When his wealthy benefactor dies, he is set out into the world for the first time at middle age. Immaculately dressed in an expensive suit, umbrella and bowler hat, he wanders through the ghettoes of Washington D.C., his first views and strange encounter with the real world accompanied by the famous disco/funk version of Thus Spake Zarathrustrata (the theme from 2001 : A Space Odyssey.) It becomes clear that he is convinced that he has actually stepped into the TV and has no ability survive in the absence of the maid who fed and cared for him all his life. By happenstance, however, he winds up in the estate of a wealthy dying billionaire where his silence and simple minded utterences about "the garden", "seasons" and "growth" are believed to have deep meaning beyond their simplistic intentions. A powerful black comedy, he serves as a reassuring mirror to the vain and powerful people who come to surround him as theyread their own interparatations into his simple utterences. He comes to be mistaken as a deep thinking genius among the ruling elite in Washington, and eventually rises to the highest levels of power, even offering advice to the President - - in reality, though, he is seeking nothing more than to find a garden to work in.
Though the film does not feature Seller's trademark madcap slapstick, it is clearly one of his best films. Seller's does do some interesting physical routines (imitating in gesture whatever he sees on any TV set within vision even in the course of serious conversation), but in contrast to his other films, rather than creating madness and chaos in the world around them, the idiocy of his character is simply overlooked - - a metaphor of the blindness and stupidity of the powerful people surrounding him who are only capable of seeing what they want to see.
All in all, if you're looking for Dr. Strangelove or Inspector Clouseau, you'll probably be let down (as many of the critics were when the film came out), however, if you're looking to see a brilliantly acted, brilliantly written and brilliantly directed cinematic masterpiece with a deep message, this will definitely be a film to remember.
Now, my question is : What's the strange TV cartoon with the kids playing basketball from ? I don't remember that one !

A classic, stupidly funny B movie

The only reason why we only gave this movie 4 stars is because they haven't come out with a sequel yet! A twisting and turning plot with superb actors playing hysterically written roles. Easy to follow, yet makes you think. Great for all ages and personalities. If you go for thought-provoking comedies that give you more than laughs, this movie is perfect for you! I've read every book about the Stupids and the movie captures the aura of the family perfectly. Thank the "Lloyd" for the Stupids!!!

Who's Afraid of .....Psychotherapists?

An extremely dark, cynical comedy that takes place in the house of a husband-wife psychotherapist team. The cast consists of 4 people: the therapists, the husband's patient, and the patient's girlfriend.

The dialogue and acting are superb, and the cast is perfect.

There have been several spin-offs of the classic "Who's afraid of Virginia Woolf?", but do not let that deter you. This film is at least as good, and in many ways better, as it is much more cerebral and subtle.
