Muslim reviews English people.

I thought that this comes out as a movie by a Muslim considering the ways of the West and finding them bitter sweet at best. Women often try to take on an additional man to prove to themselves that the ennui that they feel at home is not their fault alone. What happens is that they need a theory of life in a religiously, socially or nationally approved set of rules and management details. Without such a code we find out that the men get along better without the women around save that they are vile and know that something is missing. The take on feminism is that British men can't bear the responsibilities that women regularly carry out in respecting the spouse's career. A woman has to be talented but a man can be just himself.
My suggestion to the characters would be a bit of humility and less rage about what they have little ability to change. They are both people of worth. Perhaps back to music for Jay to perform, manage or teach and perhaps writing or directing would suit Claire.

I have a tale to tell...

At Close Range is a dark but outstandingly beautiful movie starring Sean Penn (I Am Sam) and Christopher Walken (The Deer Hunter) and directed by James Foley (Glengarry Glen Ross). Based on a true story of the Johnston family crimes. The name was changed for dramatic purposes to Whitewood.
Sean Penn plays young Brad Jr who is lured by Brad Sr, played remarkably by Walken, into his gang of thieves. When Brad Jr finds out that the gang does more than just steal, but also murder, he decides to walk out leading the movie to the very frightful and haunting events that followed.
The movie was nominated only for a Berlin International Film Festival award. Why it was not nominated for any Golden Globes or Oscars is a mystery. The movie presents very strong performances from its lead actors as well as the supporting cast that includes Mary Stuart Masterson, Crispin Glover, Keifer Sutherland, and Sean Penn's younger brother Chris Penn.
The movie also has an incredibly bittersweet musical score, taken from Madonna's wonderful song 'Live To Tell'
Very Recommended

THE RIDE OF THE CENTURY!

YOU KNOW THAT THERE HAVE BEEN COUNTLESS CAR-CHASE MOVIES. MOST OF THEM WERE GOOD AND MOST OF THEM WERE BAD. HOWEVER, IT'S A MAD, MAD, MAD, MAD WORLD IS AT THE TOP (OR PRETTY DAMN NEAR IT) OF THE LIST>> NOT ONLY WITH "CAR CHASE" MOVIES, BUT THE ENTIRE MOVIE PRODUCTION ERA. SOME PEOPLE COMPLAIN ABOUT THE "PROFANITY." NAME ONE MOVIE , NOT A CARTOON, THAT THEY DON'T SAY A SIMPLE WORD LIKE HELL? THIS MOVIE HAS ONE OF THE CRAZIEST AND MOST ENJOYABLE PLOTS. ALMOST REMINDS ME OF "THE GOD'S MUST BE CRAZY." THEY BOTH HAVE MULTIPLE STORIES THAT REVOLVE AROUND ONE PLOT. DO NOT PASS THIS BY ON THE MOVIE RACK! IF YOU SEE IT, GET IT. YOU WILL LOVE THE SLAPSTICK COMEDY AND THE FUNNY FACES THAT WILL MAKE THIS A TIMELESS CLASSIC. TOO BAD IT ONLY WON THE OSCAR FOR SOUND AND NOT ALSO PICTURE.

Hell has never been so funny

Those of you who have only seen Graham Norton as a chat show host *must* see where he started to snowball. And yes, the stereotype he plays brings back memories from childhood, making it subjectively funnier. But even if you've never experienced a mad minister/priest, you'll find "Hell" one of the funniest episodes of Father Ted, and it starts off this 2 DVD set in fine style. The other 9 (yes, count them :) episodes are:
- Think Fast, father ted- Tentacles of Doom- The Old Grey Whistle Theft- Song for Europe- The Plague- Rock a Hula Ted- Cigarettes and Alcohol and Rollerblading (another of my personal favourites)- New Jack City- Flight Into Terror
Disc one has the first five episodes and also features a running commentary by one of the writers - I've only heard the first 10 minutes, but it seems a little tedious.
Disc two has the other five, along with Bios and photo gallery.
If you've never heard of Father Ted, you *have* to see this. If you have, what... are you reading this for.
Should you buy it? "That would be an Ecumenical matter..."

A wonderful show!

"Annie" is the one MGM musical that I have longed to see for many years. Due to the now legendary problems with the film's release that was not possible - until now. What a masterpiece it is! As a Judy Garland fan, I had heard her sing the score before and had seen the outtakes from the film, and my conclusion is that fate intervened appropriately in the form of Betty Hutton. She is virtually perfect in the role. Her emotions run the gamut in this film, and make it a delight. My favorites have to be "I've got the sun in the morning" (her dance is incredible!) and Howard Keel's "My defenses are down". It is no wonder that Keel went on to become the singing star he did after this role.
What Judy could have done with the role will never be known; what Betty did with it is obvious: she made Annie her own. Get this film NOW and enjoy the wonderfully restored picture and crystal clear sound. You won't be disappointed!

JUST GREAT ENTERTAINMENT

A lot of the reviews on this movie have downplayed it as low-brow escapist fair, but this movie is really all about entertaining the viewer. Fast paced and interesting, this is a typical, above average Bruckheimer blockbuster. There really is nothing to dislike. The characters are fun and likeable. The plot races along and the clues--steeped in historical fact--make you wonder if that part of it is true.

Most of the sets are located at historical locations like Washington DC, New York, and Philidelphia. There is a lot of historical trivia here that has ended up increasing visitation to historic sites. That has to be a good thing. Of course there is not treasure at the end of the clues, but that does not take away from the appeal of this movie.

Additionally, the movie is inoffensive, non-violent and family friendly. How can it go wrong? A good movie to spend an afternoon at.
