Much Better Than the Original

I had memories of the original Battlestar Galactica, and as a long standing Sci Fi fan, the impression it left with me was that it was a period piece: a product of 70's culture, it was a 70's vision of what science fiction should be. It had been rendered sillier by the passing of time and not really enduring.

The new miniseries shows how solid the original concept was; with a few alterations to the storyline, and stripping away the distinctly 70's features of the original, it has become a much improved, much more involving plot. The characters are much more interesting, the enemy is much more interesting, and this has the chance of supplanting the original in every way that matters.

I highly recommend this miniseries, and look forward to the release of future episodes on DVD.

KMFDM rocks anyway

So i found out that TVT was in hurry making this title. You can see it by look into a technical details: of course the NTCS are 720x480@29.97Fps as always, but bitrate is only 3500Kbit/sec - it's only a half of regular DVD bitrate! So this is why you can see compression's consequences sometimes. But the picture is dark almost everywhere so this is good - such bitrate can handle it (picture).
What about perfomances? Not too much to say, just yeah, they are great as always. And they are rare (not everyday you can see Sascha's playing guitar)!
Overall: a must have for every KMFDM's fan!

AWESOME

I would just like to say that this DVD of her concert was great. She can really sing, and even in this DVD she still lets us in her life with more footage of her and Nick. I think they make the cutest couple, and wish them all the best. If you like her CD's and Newlyweds then this DVD is for you. I'm looking forward to her next one. Keep up the good work Jess:):)

Fairy Fun

Even though this movie was not an exact copy of the wonderful book-that I love with all my heart and is my favorite-I fully enjoyed the movie. It had comedy and lot's of fun and all the actors seemed to enjoy making it. I also thought Anne Hathaway was a perfect Ella. She is a wonderful actoress and was brilliant in the movie. So if you are looking for a wonderful show, great for kids too, go see It. I loved it!

A Very Funny, Clever and Romantic Movie

Jeff Goldblum plays Dexter King, a tall American in London trying to establish himself as an actor. For the last two years he's been getting by playing stooge in the comedy act of a monumentally self-centered comedian, Ron Anderson, played by Rowan Atkinson. He meets Kate Lemmon, a nurse at a local hospital. In short order, he falls in love, gets fired by Anderson, is hired to play the lead in a London musical, has a fling, loses Kate, wins Kate back.

The movie is funny and a bit whimsical, very clever, and is merciless at poking fun at the theater establishment. Dexter's big break, for instance, is playing John Merrick in Elephant!, a musical based on The Elephant Man. Think of third rate (or even first-rate) Andrew Lloyd-Weber. The book and songs are so awful and ponderous they're fascinating. Dexter's face makeup, in addition to huge lumps and ears, includes what looks like a small elephant's trunk attached to his nose.

Goldblum narrates the movie and comes across as slightly neurotic but endearing, unsure of himself but able to come through when it counts. Emma Thompson's character is all brisk common sense with a big helping of drollness. They go to bed on their first date because, as Kate explains, it eliminates all the awkwardness later on. Their love making is hilarious and could have been directed by Buster Keaton. Rowan Atkinson, as usual, almost steals the movie. He has two or three routines on stage, one with Goldblum as stooge with both playing singing, dancing off-color nuns. "Is something bothering you, Dexter?" Atkinson's character asks solicitously afterwards backstage. "Well, yes there is," Dexter says. "Then sort it out," Atkinson snarls, "before I sack you and hire a lobotomized monkey to play your role." The happy resolution of the movie takes place in the emergency room of Kate's hospital where various badly damaged people are being brought in...maimed accident victims, a heart attack case, a fellow with a vacuum cleaner pipe lodged up his bottom. Somehow it all works out.

This is a sweet, funny, intelligent movie with three first-rate lead actors.

The DVD looks very good.

The best of stand up comedians, legendary

One of the all-time greatest stand-ups is dealt an injustice with this poor transfer to DVD. The poorly compressed video causes a very annoying "lag" as Pryor moves about the stage--his hair seems to moves moments after the rest of his body. My VHS copy taped from cable years ago looks better. Still, it's easily the funniest 90 minutes of stand-up you'll ever see. Alone, Pryor's performance earns this 5 stars, docked two stars for the poor quality. This performance deserves better!

Severely Overlooked

What a great movie! I'll admit that it was hard at times to keep the names and places straight, but the plot is interesting, complex, and it all really happened. The costumes were catchy (should be nominated for an acadamy award), the setting was realsitic, the film quality is excellent, it was shot well, the script is appropriate, the battle scenes were exciting (cannons on elephant backs!)and the acting was decent. Admitedly, this will not appeal to everyone, as it is slower-paced. But those of us who appreciate films that truly deliver a lesson in history (a piece of history that I knew next to nothing about)will enjoy this.
