Mrs. Thingamigiggy

From what I have read, this masterpiece nearly torpedoed Australian director Gillian Anderson's "brilliant" career. It was vilified in Hollywood (hence the derisive name-Mrs. thingamiggiggy) before its release and never got the distribution or acclaim it actually deserved. ...
All that said, Mrs. Soffel is a really unusual (and partially true) story about two unlikely people, Kate Soffel, a repressed, Bible-reading warden's wife and Ed Biddle, a death row prisioner, who use each other for their own ends and ultimately achieve those ends. This is not so much a movie about imprisionment but rather about freedom and its costs.
Excellent script, great supporting cast, haunting locations, riveting performances, however, this moody atmospheric piece is somewhat slow-going. It is very rewarding for it glimpses into Victorian family life and Mel Gibson's eyes.

Great date movie

All romantic comedies follow a formula. This one is no different in that respect, however getting "there" is really a riot. Watching this girl pull out all the stops to drive away a handsome, funny, intelligent man is almost too much to bear. And watching him work desperately to not dump her makes the humor even more rich.
There were a few things I didn't like but those were mostly continuity type things and were mostly overlooked because I was laughing to hard to really allow them to register.... but then we do all know that movies aren't Really like Real Life! For instance no one (especially a woman) can walk out of someone's apartment in New York City without a purse and expect to take a cab home! At least I can't imagine that really happening. Without those minor glitches I would have given this movie 5 stars.
The casting was wonderful. The leads are definitely strong and likely (Matthew is certainly worth just looking at - he reminds me a great deal of Cary Grant, unconscious of his good looks and so likeable, and that slight Texas accent sure doesn't hurt), yet the supporting cast is just marvelous, too!
This movie is worth the bucks to see and later buy when it comes out on video.

Incomplete Greatness

This is the one of the very few that I will watch over and over again even though it is just so unfulfilling, does not live up to its promises, but produces such outstanding goods in the process, that the disappointment can be alleviated in knowing that not everything can be perfect... but some things do come close.

12 Monkeys is probably Terry Gilliam's most mainstream film to date and certainly his easiest to watch, but that does not make it any the less twisty, arty, heady or off-the-beaten track, 12 Monkeys is absolutely all of that, and more power to it for being just that, with an A list cast of Bruce Willis and Brad Pitt, the question we are all left asking in the end is... why does Troy or Armageddon get all the best special effects? Not that 12 Monkeys lacks anything in terms of production values, or that we hate CGI in every movie we see, the stunning set pieces are jaw dropping, it never really does give us a kicker of an ending or the kind of budget finale that all its window dressing emanates, and even the more heady window dressing ending does not really stimulate the brain cells beyond saying - wow, amazing art, 12 Monkeys is that, but cloaked somewhat in a premise about the end of the world, the future, time travel, corporations, viruses, the Army of the 12 Monkeys, that is all very much worth seeing, but investing your time in answers turns out to be a big kettle of fish in the final few minutes. Not that it is a bad ending... just not what this kind of film really deserved, not that we mind things ending or a high or a low, but at least answering the questions poised would have added better closure to a great science-fiction masterpiece.

A "Gem" Of A Movie!

When you first start watching this movie, you think the director has a budget of $10, but what you discover is a pioneer of the independent film. This little gem is a whimsical tale of 7 year old Joey Norton, who's duped by friends into thinking he's shot and killed his older brother, Richie. Upon believing this, Joey exiles himself to Coney Island, with Richie in hot pursuit. The film does a wonderful job of catching the innocence of the 50's.If you can get them away from the computer, video games and MTV, I truly believe that even kids today would enjoy this little piece of "Americana".

WWE Survivor Series 2004 - movie DVD cover picture

WWE Survivor Series wasnt that impressive on paper, but most of the matches really delivered. While the womens match was a complete waste of time, it didn't even last a minute, the main event and three other matches managed to keep this interesting.

Fatal Four Way match: Wow, very good for an opening, lots of high moves and the crowd was really into it. Rey gives kidman a hurricanrana off the ring onto the floor! Then Kidman gives Chavo an electric chair, while Chavo gave Spike a suplex at the same time! Very good, and Spike wins. 9/10

Shelton Benjamin vs. Christian: This was better than it looked, even though Tyson Tomko was involved. Shelton and Christian were given a fair amount of time and delivered to the crowd. Back and forth battle with Shelton winning after giving the Dragon kick to Tomko and the T-Bone Suplex to Christian. 8/10

Smackdowns Survivor Series match: Cena returns with a vengeance, chasing Jesus and Carlito into the parking lot. Kurt, meanwhile, is soon left to face Big Show, Cena, and Guerrero as the match went on. After the Fu and a Frog Splash, Big Show pins Kurt. It was okay, but not great. 8/10

Undertaker vs. Heidenreich: It was watchable, but should have been left for Smackdown. The crowd was into it though, so that saved it. Undertaker wins after the tombstone. 7/10

Lita vs. Trish Stratus: Big Disappointment. It really wasnt a match, Lita just beat Trish up and gave her a bloody nose. I like Lita so it didn't really matter, but I was disappointed to see her get disqualified after hitting trish with a chair. No Score.

JBL vs. Booker T: Oh no, not another month with JBL as champ! Thanks a lot Orlando Jordan for screwing Booker out of the title. Even Josh Mathews couldnt save Booker T. A ref was knocked down, Booker got hit by the belt, and JBL wins again. 7.5/10

Raw's Survivor Series match: Now this was a good match. Snitsky gives Maven the biggest chair shot ever seen for a while. Maven was supposedly taken out earlier by Snitsky backstage, but tried to join the fight, only to have his head caved in. Randy wins after Rko'ing Edge and Triple H to get the win for his team. 9/10

I would definately reccomend this for the Fatal four way match and the Raw Survivor Series match. Even the Shelton/Christian match is good to see. Very good ppv to see.

HALLOWEEN Roxx & Busta delivers!

1st off.. I was VERY worried what in the world Busta Rhymes was doing in a Halloween flick! ..I caught the 1st showing of opening day and after ending credits rolled- Busta doubters beware! HE DELIVERS and very convincingly! ...I will admit to being somewhat puzzled about the "chains" and human remains in the basement.. I would add this installment is very close to Part 6 in the DARKER FEEL- in summary..well worth it, satisfying and can't wait 'til the next time he comes home..

It's difficult to say exactly why I rate this so high. I highly recommend Patlabor to anyone who likes giant robot movies, but even more so I recommend it to those who don't, those who think that all giant robot movies have to be the same. It's not true here. The labors take a back seat to the characters really giving them time to develop and grow on you. I can hardly wait for volume 2. Well worth it.

Action Action Action

Not every great anime film has to be thought provoking and deeply metaphorical. As in live-action features, anime can be subdivided into a variety of different tiers: drama, mystery/suspense, horror, action; etc. To say a film isn't any good because it doesn't wholly encompass all these different genres is quite simply asking too much. Spriggan is the action movie that all action movies aspire to. Character designs are excellent, the animation is incredibly fluid, and the story, unless you're an infant, is quite easy to follow and is intriguing to boot. This movie is for those of you who like to shut your brain down for a time, and just enjoy the pure visceral thrill that a good action flick can create. Highly recommended.

One of the Best Movies I have ever seen!

If you look at this movie from an entirely moral perspective there is no doubt that you will find the subject and plot-line thoroughly unappealing...however if you look at the work as a whole--the cinematography, the choreography, the acting, the singing, and the dancing, you will truly appreciate it for what it is, a work of art. Having not seen Moulin Rouge I can make no comparison between the two, and don't want to anyway. If you call Chicago a "New Age" musical about the doldrums, downfall and moral degredation of our society you are forgetting that it is a Broadway musical and has been on stage for more than 25 years.
Being a dancer myself the dance scenes in the film are amazingly choreographed, and performed just as well. To think that in three weeks off of dance I am already out of shape, and then to look at Catherine Zeta-Jones hit those dance numbers home amazes me. She's incredible, as is Richard Gere, and Renee Zellweger. I only have ONE complaint. In "The Gun" the reporter who sings- I forget her name- tries to do an Entrechat (ballet) and it looks HORRIBLE because her legs are completely turned in.
Well, I hope that you rent this movie when it comes out, not just to see a great movie, but to get exposed to what the world of the Peforming Arts really is like...It's a DOG EAT DOG world...
