What a great movie. Jar Jar is funny. I liked the lightsaber duels I really liked last one. Anakin was the best. The last part I really liked Anakin's Jedi buzzcut. Thank you and may the force be with you always!

very enjoyable

I agree in principle with the previous reviewers, but I feel the films' faults have been exaggerated. It follows a set format of opera films, of the kind that are broadcast a lot on German and Austrian TV channels. This genre is harmless enough, and at worst it serves to illustrate the action (and provides a translation). I found this DVD very enjoyable. I have more issues with the libretto itself. What is the dramatic value of act IV (Siberia)? I feel it doesn't only illustrate how low the protagonists fell, but also drags this whole mediocre piece very low. It's almost as if a bourgeois (or even religious) morality rears its head in this Stalinist - era work, depicting rather crudely sin's punishment.

The Bourne Identity

Well, my family and I rented this film over the summer, and I've got to say I can clearly understand why the film was so highly praised. Let me start with the plot.

The plot of the story didn't have holes in it (except for why Bourne was trying to kill Wombozi. We all were a bit confused by that part). It was a good blend of action and suspense, which I like in the film. Perhaps one day I'll read the book this film was based on. I'll be looking forward for the Bourne Supremacy on DVD (I'm the kind of person who likes to wait for a film to come out on DVD unless I really want to see it in theatres). It was even comical sometimes, especially around the ending fight between Bourne and Conklin's agents.

The acting was well-done. Matt Damon is superb as Jason Bourne; he delivers an awesome performance that really tells you what kind of character he is. Clive Owen does a good job as the Professor; he did really well in the sniping scene. And Chris Cooper as gotta love this guy. Outstanding work, Mr. Cooper. It's a shame that Conklin won't be in the next film...I wanted to see more of that guy.

Bottom line: Get this film if you're into action and suspense.

Better AV quality, extras well worth it

James Cameron's Sequel to his original ground breaking science fiction epic is not only a ground breaking achievement in special effects but is a compelling look at the danger of greed and the abuse of technology. Arnold Schwarzenegger is back as the Terminator and is a good guy this time around protecting a young John Connor from a more advance-killing machine named the T-1000 played with deadly precession by Robert Patrick. Linda Hamilton returns as Sara Connor, and has been preparing her son for the future war to come. Her performance is a great continuation of the character she played in the first movie, and she has been through the ringer for her knowledge of what's to come. The special effects are ground breaking, and they do hold up well over time, maybe because they were done with a sense class, and not overly done like the movies we have coming out now. It's rare that a sequel could be better than the original in every way, but this is a prime example of that fact.
A true science fiction classic.

Sideways (Full Screen Edition) - movie DVD cover picture
In Search of Wine, In Search of Themselves

"Sideways" is a movie about a little bit of everything. The title intrigued me. According to Thomas Hayden Church it intrigued everyone and was talked about freely on the set of the movie. Hayden Church said, "The title of the movie is open to interpretation. We talked about it often. You go through a door sideways. Or the little roads that go off to the wineries in the Santa Ynez valley are sideways of the 101. But it's also these little portals that open up, and the experience. These guys are at such a crossroads in their lives."

Miles Raymond (Paul Giamatti) is recently divorced teacher. He is having difficulty moving on with his life. He wants to take his best friend, Jack, (Thomas Hayden Church), about to be married, on a week's trip to the wine country. Miles loves the wine country and knows it well, as he does wine. Their first stop is one of his favorite wineries, Sanford Winery, located in the Santa Rita Hills. Miles says "Let's hit Sanford First. These guys make top-notch Pinot and Chardonnay. One of the best producers in Santa Barbara County."

The wine-appreciation theme of this movie made such an impression on its fans in the US, sales of Pinot Noir wines rose by more than 20% over the Christmas/New Year period 2004,, compared to the same period the previous year. Sanford Pinot Noir is very difficult to come by now and everyone makes Sanford Wineries their first stop in wine country.

As they wind their way through wine country, Miles stops at his favorite bar/restaurant. Here they meet, Maya, (Virginia Masden) a waitress, and according to Jack, "some looker". It becomes pretty obvious that Jack is out for a last fling, and Paul is shocked and dismayed to find his wine tasting tour may turn into a "love nest". At one of the wineries Jack becomes smitten with Stephanie, (Sandra Oh) and asks her out. She knows Maya and a dinner date for all four of them occurs that night. The simple week for two friends has turned into a search and discussion of relationships and what do we want from life?

Paul and Jack are buddies. Each is middle aged and searching for themselves and what is missing in their lives. "Sideways". Paul, Jack, Maya and Stephanie are all in a search. In search of wine. In search of love. In search of themselves. This is a buddy movie that at times is hilarious and serious. Highly recommedned. prisrob

Very Strong & Powerful Performances.

When I first brought this movie on DVD, I thought is was going to be a average T.V. movie, because it was only $5.99, but it was actually a really good film, I didn't knowest if the writing was bad, because what made the film so good, was! the strong & powerful performances by Sissy Spacek, David Strathairn and Arliss Howard. I definally recommend this film to anybody who loves good dramas or who is a big fan of the three great leads.

Jacob's Ladder - movie DVD cover picture
A Ladder never to be climbed

This film is strange for anyone who sees it for the first time. It deals with a real fact, the use of hallucenogenic drugs in the US army during the Vietnam war. But we never know, till the end maybe, whether we see reality or a dying dream. It has the look of a thriller and also of a horror film, and yet it is not. It deals with the capability for a dying man to come to terms with death itself. To resist death transforms dying into a fight with demons. To accept death transforms dying into a trip with angels. The moral of the lesson is thus very pessimistic in a way, since we must accept death to die smoothly. It is also optimistic since we can die smoothly if we accept death. It is all a question of from what point of view we look at death : acceptable or inacceptable. Yet a strange question remains : aren't humans supposed to fight for survival, to fight for life ? And there the question is terrible, horrific, horrifying : an individual cannot fight for survival because society, in this case the US armed forces, the government decide whether we have to live or we have to die. We are playthings in the hands of a few bureaucrats of war. At least that was what the Vietnam war transformed plain citizens into. They could have had peaceful and happy lives, but some blind and invisible forces decided otherwise. We had to submit, we have to submit. The film itself does not answer the question that rises then : Why do we have to submit to these forces ? Why are there forces like those imposing onto us decisions that are not our own ? Walking Tall - movie DVD cover picture

Are you looking to see a brand new, emotion filled action packed masterpiece? Well, you won't get emotion filled, but with this movie you certaintly will get "brand new" and "action packed". This movie is getting slammed by critics because it is overly violent (yet "Dawn of the Dead" gets great reviews), and I feel that is unjust, because that could direct movie goers away, when this movie should make big money...because it deserves to.
While I'm not saying the movie isn't violent, because it sure as hell is and I sometimes questioned what kept it from getting slammed with an R-Rating, the violence is quite tame when compared to other movies. The Rock pics up some wood and goes into a casion and smacks the crap out of everyone. However, the camera always cuts to the person's back or another part of his body so you can't see the effect. So, you might want to keep this movies away from the 2-year olds, but I know I watched movies like this when I was 5 and I turned out OK.
Also, the movie has humor. I wouldn't call it an action comedy like the Rock's last movie, "The Rundown" was, because there isn't THAT much humor. Most of the humor is supplied by Jackass Johnny Knoxville, who steals every scene he's in. I'm a big fan of Jackass and have been p*ssed ever since it got cancelled, but it gave Knoxville more time to do what he's always wanted to do: act. And I was questioning how good of an actor he is before seeing this movie. To my suprise, he is quite good! I couldn't see him in a drama, but as a comic actor, I'd say he's just about as amusing as any Seann William Scott (whom is also quite the funny man).
So, if you're looking for a great, great (and entertaining) movie, I do suggest you ignore the low rating in your paper and check out "Walking Tall". And believe me, it's better than "Hellboy".
