Lots of fun!!

Three's Company is a classic comedy, and it is great too see it on DVD. This set contains the first 6 episodes. I'm not gonna go into detail about the DVD, because everyone else has already done that. What I will tell everyone is this...check out the first pilot episode. Although it is a great funny episode, notice that it looks like it was done very cheap, there are 2 occasions where you can actully see the microphone above the actors!! Watch the episode and try to find it!!!
Just for everyone's info...the Season 2 disc which is due out very shortly contains alot of extra's, including the ORIGINAL PILOT with different actors playing Janet and Chrissy!!! I CAN'T WAIT!!!

6 Stars again Dame Joan

I am obvously a big fan of Dame Joan. Her coloratura is definitely incomparable. The video and sound is reasonable, bearing in mind it was recorded forty years ago ( Hence that captured her absolute prime ).I don't want to be lengthy, as most customers already gave this a great review.Just buy it and there'll be no regrets---garanteed.

Well done

I was surprised at how well all the elements came together for this film. Obviously the main cohesion is centered on Atticus Finch (Gregory Peck) and his relationship with his children, Scout (Mary Badham) and Jem (Philip Alford). I would classify this as one of Gregory peck's best movies. It almost had to be shot in black and whit to have the feel needed in the all but black and white movie.
Scout and Jem know very little about their neighbor 'Boo' (Robert Duvall.) They have heard and made up strange stories. They spend time daring each other and their summer friend, to go up to the neighbor house as it holds some mysterious crazed person. Through the movie many odd things happen such as a tree that mysteriously offers a series of objects from marbles to a watch, among other things. What do we really know about our neighbors? Watch as the mystery unfolds. And what will they find out in this slice of life in the Depression-era South.

Pilates made accessible

As someone who teaches piano, I really appreciate the importance of building a strong foundation in the fundamentals and patient practice. This dvd allows me to do both. Although it provides a great workout, it really seems that its primary purpose is to teach someone how to do real Pilates (I've gone to some health club Pilates classes which combines all sorts of things and call it Pilates). The teacher really seems concerned about the topic and not one of those all in one instructors just jumping on a fad. I do work in D.C. from time to time and I will definitely look for her studio. The dvd is a bargain at $15!

Every time I watch it I see new things

There are only a few movies I can watch again and again. Those are the ones worth owning. This is one of them.Welles takes a routine noir movie and somehow does itso well that you can't pull yourself away. To summarizethe plot is almost unnecessary- a crime takes placenear Tijuana-- big deal. It's what Welles makes this INTO that is so interesting.
There is no point at which it feels slow or rushed, and no touch that is unneeded. I can't say as much for today's "thrillers." The lighting and the casting are remarkable. He nailed everything so prefectly. As for the DVD version- goodextras, like the VHS version a couple years ago. And yeah, they probably could have had a little more care in theirtransfer to deal with aspect ratio. For whatever reason, the studios can't get this right more than 50% of the time.It doesn't tarnish the film itself, though.

Not your usual horror flick...

While many people see this movie as a 'Silence of the Lambs' style psychological horror movie (and being overly grotesque abd graphical for some) - the horror is just a minor aspect of the movie. In a way, it is just a metaphore for our lives today.

The movir centers on the relationship between supposedly opposite detectives - David Mills (Brad Pitt) is still young enough (and inexperienced enough in big city crime)to believe the system works, and that most criminals can be caught if the cops & detectives involved will work hard enough. Detective William Somerset (Morgan Freeman), on the other hand, had more than his share of unsolved, grotesque cases to be weary of the system. His definition of a 'closed case' is when there is nothing more to be done - whether the perpertrator has been caught, or in many of the cases - until there is no way of finding him or her. He's also experienced enough to know that hard work is often not enough, and that the wheels of justiced can work better if they're greased with some bribes somewhere along the way. Unlike Det. Mills, who fights the despair he sees around him by tryingto do his best, Det. Somerset just decide to give up - with so much crime going on around him, what can he do to stop it?

The movie assaults our sense of 'right and wrong'. Just like Det. Mills, we'd like to think everything can be resolved with logic - but are all logical decisions right decisions? The scene between Tracy & Somerset in the diner tries to tell us the opposite.

As the movie progresses, the relationship between the two detectives is getting better - not only are they becoming friends, but also manage to find a way to work well together, and to feed off each other's strength & talents. But this doesn't lead to a happy ending - even though the crime is solved. As the relationship gets better, the murders are becoming stranger, exposing us to seedier & seedier sides of life in the big city.

Looking at the way the movie is shot, NYC is always rainy, wet, neglected. This depressing atmosphere affects the lives of everyone living in it. Even the supposedly 'perfect' relationship between David & Tracy (the highschool sweethearts we'd all like to be) had somehow gone wrong - starting with the 'vibrating apartment', and going through a stage where Tracy doesn't share the secret of herpregnancy & her doubts about it with David.

The ending, on the other hand, occurs in a big, sunny field - the exact opposite of the wet city the characters had just left. But while the city was 'their turf', where they were in control, John Doe is in control of the situation in the field. Once again, our ideals of good & bad (crowded, wet city vs. the big, sunny countryside) are somehow used against us.

I really don't have that much to say about this incredibly hilarious movie. I just wanted to make sure that my vote of five stars was counted.

At least watch the movie

As I have been reading these reviews, I noticed that quite a few negative reviews are by people who have not seen the movie! At least watch the movie before posting an opinion about it.
Yes, this movie is that good. I am something of a movie freak and have watched pretty much everything that can be found in you local blockbusters...normally this causes me to be a bit harsher with mainstream movies..ie I hated Harry Potter although i loved the books..since I tend to thing about how a scene may have been edited better or whether something causes the story to flow or whether the director was able to get the viewer to sympathize with the characters etc. The storytelling in this movie is in itself breathtaking and astounding. The natural feel Jackson has for conveying what he wants on film is mindbogling..I havnt seen a film this well directed in a long time. Put that together with source material which is considered a modern literary classic and a cast that was put together for its acting ability and not their box office draw and you have one of the best movies ever filmed. There are other things about this movie besides the movie itself that have me bewildered..like the fact that this huge investment which would have broken the studio was launched without proven box office draw in its cast to assure a big opening day..I guess the confidence in the quality of the film was always there. Look for this movie to stay at the top for a long time..even though its having a great opening box office, this is a word of mouth film and its real money will come around over the course of months. I am also surprised at the number of positive female responses to this movie which is based books with an overwhelmingly male following.
