Look for me in the Tower.

This one was definately better than the 4th installment! This one would be # 3 in the series, because it was so interesting. I also really liked how they gave more information on who Freddy's mother was and what happened to her.

The best superhero movie!

This movie outshines its brilliant predecessor by a mile with better fight scenes, a great plot, and some good laughs.
In this one, Peter Parker keeps on living a double life but it's costing him. Mary Jane's mad at him, he get fired from a job, his grades are taking a plunge for the worst and he has a new nemesis in Dr. Octopus after a brilliant scientist's experiment goes terribly wrong. That's a lot of stuff that our superhero's got to deal with. does he care more about Mary Jane and his school work or does he care more about the safety of New York? Find out. He also has a problem with his once best friend Harry Osborne, who is mad at Peter because Spiderman killed his dad. The movie has a fair share of luaghs, some awesome and memorable fights and good acting by Tobey Maguire, Kirsten Dunst and Alfed Molina. If you haven't seen this movie yet, you're missing out on the best superhero movie EVER!

Just Joe

If you love Joseph Campbell - his gentle spirit - his charming wit - his extensive knowledge - this DVD is heaven (pun intended - see the last episode, on the Tibetan Book of the Dead). In Mythos you view taped lectures with some beautiful visual aids. That's it. There is no interviewer to interrupt him - you hear what Joe intended to say, his jokes and asides included. I love Joe's books, but I love even more to hear his voice and see his wonderful eyes. This DVD is worth watching again and again.

Scary....scarier because there are still no answers

Meryl Streep shines as nuclear plant worker Karen Silkwood, who courageously exposed abuses in the industry after suffering exposure to plutonium herself. Her mysterious death - was it an accident, or murder? - remains unsolved today, but her legacy lives on. Activists today still give their names as "Karen Silkwood" when arrested. A moving bio of Silkwood herself and a chilling commentary on corporate greed. Highly recommend. The supporting performances by Russell and Cher are phenomenal.

Just brilliant.

I've been a fan of this show for well over 3 years now and am happy to say I am still a fan of it. After first 2 season, Alias is STILL going strong and Season 3 definitely lives up to the expectations. Lots of action, many emotional scenes and a lot of butt-kicking action. Just a fantastic show with a fantastic cast.

My absolute favourite show and I will continue to support it.

Maybe it's time to play the race/gender card with MTM!

Ok people, we've screamed and yelled and it's 3 yrs later and still no season 2 of MTM. I say it's time to use the gender card. Let's complain to Fox and tell them they are sexist for not releasing the rest of this show because it was an intelligent show starring a woman who was independent in the 70s. Yes, that's it! Maybe Fox doesn't like shows about women in power! How about Gordie? We have yet to see him, maybe they don't want to release season 2 because Gordie's black! Come one folks, we're desparate now, it's 3 yrs later and it's starting to look like they're NEVER going to release the rest of the Mary Tyler Moore Show on DVD. If our complaints won't be heard, why shouldn't NOW or the NAACP fight for us? Desparate times call for desparate measures. This show is one of the best shows of alltime, and the only reason it doesn't get released is because brain dead execs who enjoy crap like The Anna Nicole Smith show would rather release that instead. It's sickening.

Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas - movie DVD cover picture
Terry Gilliam Can Do No Wrong

"Fear & Loathing In Las Vegas" is yet another example of cinematic art from America's most original living filmmaker - Terry Gilliam. It is admittedly not easy viewing, but that is an accurate representation of the state of mind of the film's characters. Gilliam has always lent his films a flamboyant visual quality and that is perfectly appropriate for this particular film. I think that Gilliam has made the ultimate tripped-out film that Oliver Stone thought that he had made with "Natural Born Killers". The film is certainly over-the-top visually and performance-wise and has memorable dialogue. The film uses narration in an excitingly original way. Johnny Depp and Benicio del Toro's performances are so outstanding that the actors seem lost in their respective roles. Anyone who has tripped and/or been on a trip to Las Vegas will appreciate this film.
This film should be purchased in the DVD format since it is presented in the original aspect ratio of 2.35-1 and because the format accurately presents the film's bold colors and sound better. The short documentary on the DVD is an interesting addition (it's fun to see Gilliam dressed as a shiek while directing in the desert). The DVD also includes a few deleted scenes including an introduction to the film that Gilliam would have used if the Writers Guild of America had not given him a screenwriting credit.
P.S. - I have to agree with fellow Niagara Falls resident Ryan Butler on this one!

The Wire - The Complete Second Season - movie DVD cover picture
It's a world so real you change your view on the real world

I'll start with a caveat: the dialogue can potentially be difficult and the pacing is completely different from any show on television. However, the dialogue is the heart of the show, essential to its realism, and the pacing provides you with such a heart-breaking last episode that you wish every television show so finely crafted their season. The more you invest into the show, the more it gives back to you. So if you're not up for some serious immersion, this isn't the show for you. I watched each episode of season 2 twice when it was first airing on HBO to pick up on everything. That's why DVD is an ideal format for the show. You can really absorb the language and action in a way that's impossible when watching it in weekly installments.

Season 1 stunned me. I hadn't seen anything that completely submerged me into a fictional world while influencing the way I viewed the real world. And I watch a lot of television, good television. Even the other amazing HBO shows (and that includes The Sopranos) fails to have the intellectual and emotional impact on me that The Wire does, especially in this second season. Second season raises the bar to something approaching the Shakespearean. I'm serious. I watch these episodes and get something completely different and profound out of them each time.

The outer struggles of the characters against bureaucracy and for power are fascinating and thought-provoking, but it's the inner conflict of the characters that really elevates the show. No one is good and no one is evil. Characters, all the characters, are morally flawed. The Wire doesn't gloss over the immoral actions of the "good" guys and it doesn't omit the human details of the "bad" guys. All these characters are human and the makers of the show take a humanistic approach to portraying them by inviting the audience to embrace the characters in all their flaws and moral ambiguities.

If you don't start reevaluating our nation's drug policy, you weren't paying attention. If you see this show and don't start thinking, really thinking, about what's going on with the urban poor and working classes, you don't have a heart.
