Perhaps the Best Of The Series

Paramount's "The Naked Gun" series is one of the few film series in cinematic history to go through three films and still remain consistent. The third entry of the series, "The Naked Gun 33 1/3 - The Final Insult" was relased three years after the previous installment, "The Naked Gun 2 1/2 - The Smell Of Fear", in 1994.

This third venture finds bumbling Lt. Frank Drebin (Leslie Nielsen) retired from Police Squad and finally married to Jane (Prisicilla Presley). Frank seems to be happily settling into retired life when he is suddenly brought back in by old friends Ed (George Kennedy) and Nordberg (O.J. Simpson, just months before he killed his wife and her lover). They want him to investigate a bomb threat organizd by notorious terroist Rocko Dylan (Fred Ward). He is sent a fertility clinic to find out the address of Rocko's girlfriend Tanya Peters' (Anna Nicole Smith, pre - Trimspa) house. Jane becomes suspicious, and leaves Frank when she learns that he's back on the job. Frank, meanwhile, is assigned to pose as an inmate in the prison where Rocko is at. He becomes friends with Rocko, who lets him on the plan and lets him be apart of it. They spend the night at Tanya's house. Jane also winds upt here and is held hostage. They soon learn that Rocko is planning to blow up the Academy Awards. So Jane and Frank now must sneak in and stop Rocko from destroying the most important annual motion picture event. The result is several celebrity cameos and one uproarious dance number that goes sout thanks To Frank. It's another laugh a minuute romp with the "Naked Gun" bunch!

Highly recommend!

Wonderful collection of clips! 19 video clips, from Waterloo (1974) to One Of Us (1981), show us the evolution of ABBA, of their songs and of their look. Enjoy it! Though I agree with the previous reviewer - such a pity that such clips as Lay All Your Love On Me and Dancing Queen are only compilations of other clips.

nostalgia, nostalgia, nostalgia

This movie is for everyone who loves 80s nostalgia. It shows the way life was back in the mid-80s. It has everything from the Micheal Jackson-like jackets to a huge Miami Vice lover! My favorite is when Julia's (played by Drew Barrymore) fiancee bought her a brand new expensive invention- a CD player!

Kissing Jessica Stein - movie DVD cover picture
Pucker up for "Jessica"!

"Kissing Jessica Stein," directed by Charles Herman-Wurmfeld, tells the story of a young, single, Jewish professional woman in New York City (the Jessica of the title, played by Jennifer Westfeldt). She's fed up with men after a series of bad experiences. Intrigued by a "woman-seeks-woman" personal ad, Jessic decides to give lesbianism a try. The object of her often clumsy affection is Helen (Heather Juergensen), a sexy art gallery manager.
This movie hooked me from its outrageous opening scene, in which Jessica, her mother, and her grandmother bicker and gossip about men during a Day of Atonement service. "Jessica" is a wonderfully funny and sweet film, filled with witty dialogue and some genuinely touching moments. The ensemble cast is superb. Westfeldt and Juergensen shine in the lead roles. Westfeldt, who looks remarkably like Lisa Kudrow, is reminiscent of a young female Woody Allen in this quirky, neurotic role. Juergensen brings an irreverent sensuality to her role. The two are delicious together. Although the whole supporting cast is great, I was particularly moved by Tovah Feldshuh as Jessica's loving mother.
I'm sure people will be tempted to pigeonhole "Jessica" as a "lesbian" movie, a "New York" movie, and/or a "Jewish" movie. It's certainly all of these, but its charm and universality also transcend all categories. It's about love, family ties, friendship, self-knowledge, and other issues that are relevant to everybody. And the film is populated with a wonderful group of characters -- male and female, Jewish and gentile, straight, gay, and "bi-curious" -- who are treated with affection and respect by the filmmakers. My advice: whatever your own preferences, prepare to kiss "Jessica" and love it.

A riveting and startling piece of filmmaking

This MONSTER is a monster of a movie in everything that the title entails. A tragic and sad story of a woman beaten down by the horrible turn of events that happen in her life (especially in her childhood). Aileen Wournos, who was called the first woman serial killer who was executed thru lethal injection on October 9, 2002 in Florida had life messed up and confused from the time that she was 13, when she became pregnant and forced I believe to live out on her own.
Along the way she encountered everything that was bad and found early on that the only way to survive was to prostitue herself for money. One day she walks into a seedy bar and meets Selby a young lesbian girl who is somewhat confused with her sexuality (not completely out of the closet) they take a liking to each other and soon enough become lovers. Aileen who was fed up with the way her life was going wanted no longer to continue hooking but had her johns believe that she was and ended up killing seven men while stealing their wallets and their cars.
Men represented everything that had gone wrong with her life and so she rebelled against them and loathed them with a passion. Therefore she had no remorse about killing them one by one since they were all dogs to begin with. Charlize Theron who gave an amazing Oscar winning performance paints a harrowing and chilling portrayal of the confused and desperate Wournos trying to keep herself in the clear and from getting caught from the police. This movie is very intense and I think its director Patty Jenkins who also wrote the script did an excellent job helming this film. Christina Ricci who plays Selby her lover and is also on the run with her does a very good job as well, however if for what is worth what makes people want to see this movie is without a doubt Theron's brilliant performance. Her transformation physical and emotional was unbeliveable. Charlize Theron who is I believe one of the most beautiful women in Hollywood pull all the stops in making her character look identical to the real Aileen Wournos. Theron gained 30 pounds, colored her hair to dirty blond had her face practically redone with a lot of freckles and even had prosthetics done on her teeth. I strongly believe that both Christina Ricci and writer/director Patty Jenkins should of both won oscars for their great work. This film is definately a must see and I'm certainly going to add this movie to my collection when is release on DVD. A riveting and startling piece of filmmaking from beginning to end.

The Phantom of the Opera - movie DVD cover picture

I must admit, having seen various incarnations of this classic on video, that I expected very little, vis-a-vis the DVD version. Boy, was I surprised! This is yet another triumph by Blackhawk Films. The image quality is superb, with color tintings that greatly enhance this seminal silent film. Lon Chaney is, of course, magnificent as the demented and malformed Phantom who haunts the Paris Opera House. His most well-known role (deservedly so, how DID he create that extra-ordinary make-up?) is a timeless one, as a man longing for love, but who can never obtain it. This version features a beautiful symphonic score by Gabriel Thibaudoux, and as far as silent films go, a very impressive one. A newly mastered version at the correct running speed of 20 frames per second, from the original 35 mm print. Trivial? Not if one wants to view this classic as it was meant to be seen. This version also features an essay by Michael Blake, Chaney expert, on the inside of the case. An altogether superior version, highly recommended by a Chaney fan of over 30 years.

Must buy

I saw H&K in the theater and laughed my ass off at times, but didn't think it was a classic. But then I watched it again and thought it could easily rank up there with Road Trip, Van Wilder and Undercover Brothers as movies you can watch again, especially in the company of good friends.

Even my wife, who thinks all the aforementioned movies were worthless and immature, thought H&K was funny. Maybe it's because we're both Asian, though she identifies more with Harold while I with Kumar, but I think minorities will appreciate it. Koreans, or anyone who has hung with enough of them, will love it, as will Indians.

Looking for the sequel-- H&K Go to Amsterdam!!!

Another great 2-video-collections-on-1-DVD!!! Just like the Def Leppard DVD's ("Historia/In The Round, In Your Face" and "Visualize/Video Archive"), Metallica gives the fans their money's worth with a re-release of this excellent video. There's almost 4 hours of material on this DVD, and while there are no special features, this DVD doesn't need any!!! Some suggestions to Lars, James & Kirk: re-release the video for "One" on DVD, and a re-release of the LIVE S---: BINGE & PURGE box set with the concert videos on DVD. Anyway, great DVD compilation!!!
