Listen to the orchestra alone

The DVD is a better choice than the CD and the video for one reason: you can switch between listening to the orchestra with band, the band only, or the orchestra only! It's SO cool when you listen to the orchestra-only version of some of the songs-- Michael Kamen has added so much to the music! When you're listening to the regular orchestra+band, it weaves together so seamlessly that you can miss a lot of the more subtle elements of the music. Try listening to "Call of Ktulu" and "Hero of the Day" with just orchestra . . there's some great stuff in there. Listening to just the band is also pretty interesting, and the documentary is pretty cool too. Definitely worth the cash...even if you already have the CD or video.

IT CAN'T GET ANY BETTER THAN THIS!!!

I've got great news for you folks! If you have not yet seen any of Leatherface's previous films, YOU DON'T NEED TO! Here's why, the original version is kind of silly, then again what do you expect of a horror film made in 1973/74? Back in the 1970s, people found stuff like that to be horrifying and hey, Jason and Freddy didn't exist either.
This 2003 version of Texas Chainsaw Massacre will change the way you judge horror films. And let me ask you this question, since when did Leatherface have a reputation? Ever remember hearing his name before the 2003 release? Neither did I. How come? Well, let's make a comparison between the 1974 release and the 2003 release:
- The original Leatherface was nothing but an idiot! He even got slapped around by his daddy for acting so dumb! - Wore a clown mask and ran slower than a turtle! - Even enjoyed dressing up sometimes, once wore a suit! - Made sounds like a pregnant woman giving birth! - Cut every little tree branch in his way using his chainsaw while giving chase. Man, this idiot sure knows how to let his victims get away!- Lived in a house that did not look scary at all. - Has a retarded brother who enjoys cutting himself! And Daddy also beats him up as well! Has a small retarded family.
Well, this new improved Leatherface changed EVERYTHING! He made people in the theatres poop their pants! Not only does he have a better look, but he is in full control! Faster, smarter, scarier looking. The 2003 version even has a better storyline, and makes more sense compared to the original.
If you are looking for a freaky horror film to add to your collection, then look no further! Give this film a try, and I guarantee that you'll never want to hear or see a chainsaw again in your life!

Spielberg is back in top form - fantastic...

What a comeback for Spielberg! Wow! I really enjoyed Minority Report - it was the best movie I have seen in the commercial theaters this year by far. In Minority Report, Spielberg finally acheives the perfect balance between thought-provoking material and suspense and action. Essentially, he created a synthesis between the style of A.I. (which tries to be thought-provoking but is too long and boring) and of Indiana Jones (which is pure entertainment). AND IT WORKS - this is both an interesting and meaningful movie and an action packed thriller.
Essentially, Minority Report deals with a near future in which PreCrime, a form of police that relies on the PreCogs to predict future murders and stop them, is being tested for national implemenation in Washington DC. Believed to be perfect, the PreCrime system allows police to arrest people for murders before they occur. More specifically, in Minority Report, John Anderton (Tom Cruise, in a very good performance), a PreCrime cop, is forced to run when it is predicted that he will commit a murder. There is only one problem - he has never heard of the man he is supposedly going to kill. To say any more would be to give too much away...
Still, I can say one thing for sure: Spielberg uses the intricate plot to not only give the audience a great thrill ride, complete with fantastic special effects and a cool vision of a future world - but also to raise questions about the validity of predetermination and the price of security. So, I don't know how else to recommend this - go see it soon - because this movie is both entertaining, original, and thought-provoking (a rare combination in Hollywood these days)!

the truth gives hope to all the guys

This is the best romantic comady that i really enjoyed and i hope that girls from all ages learn to be open minded and give a chance for every cool guy that cant express himself infront girls - this film best part for me is when they say it loud and clear that men are not all the same and that men try their best to get the girl that they like and the girls should give 'em a chance and take their time to know the guy ..

Michael Caine at his best!

I first saw this at the theatre and laughed so hard I had to see it a 2nd time to catch what I had missed.
It's a very clever take-off on the Sherlock Holmes/Dr. Watson idea. Watson (Ben Kingsley) is the brains and author of the Sherlock Holmes stories. Michael Caines is an out-of-work actor who is hired to play Sherlock Holmes after lots of public demand to meet the hero of the stories. What follows is a hilarious and well-crafted story of Caine being forced to really be Sherlock Holmes. He stinks at it, of course, but almost succeeds despite himself.
Kingsley & Caine are wonderful. I can't image any other actors who could have pulled it off with such subtle humor. They play off each other well.
When (I refuse to say "if") this comes out on DVD I will buy it! Until then, I hope my VHS doesn't wear out.

Rossini - La Cenerentola / Campanella, Bartoli, Dara, Houston Grand Opera - movie DVD cover picture
Beautiful!

I have seen other performances of this La Cenerentola, but this performance is the best. The cheerful and melodious music of Rossini, although not as wellknown as Barbiere de Sevilla, is still so enchanting and beautiful, and comes out as magnificent by the excellent performance and singing of Cecilia Bartoli in her specific deep rich soprano voice which is matched by the clear soft tenor voice of Raul Gimenez and clear baritone Enzo Dara. The combination of singers made this opera buffa so magnificent and enchanting while the costume and background decor represent the comical and funny situation. We are so enthralled watching and listening to this performance from the beginning to the end of the opera.

Yippeee! (And that's an understatement!)

I have been going crazy waiting for these mysteries to come out on video. I have been calling PBS and BBC video over the years asking about this series.
I am unbelievely trilled that they are not only out but on DVD. I love being able to jump to my favorite scenes and to have my movies in a format that won't rapidly decay over time.
I rate this 4 out of 5 stars. I was hoping that as an extra feature, they would include the introductions and conclusions that Vincent Price would give before and after each episode on Mystery!. Sadly these scenes are not included. :(
Everything else is wonderful and I look forward to enjoying many years with my DVDS.

Dance Theatre of Harlem - Fall River Legend - movie DVD cover picture
One of DTH's best productions.

You may already know that Dance Theatre of Harlem was founded by Arthur Mitchell, but, as Mr. Mitchell points out in his introduction, George Balanchine was on the board of directors and was very much involved with training the dancers. In some ways, DTH continues the Balanchine tradition better than other companies. "Fall River Legend" is a beautiful production, starring Virginia Johnson as Lizzie Borden. Virginia Johnson was one of the best in her day, and does a flawless job here. (She can also be seen in DTH's "Creole Giselle", available through kultur.com. Ms. Johnson currently teaches and is the editor of Pointe magazine, the only American magazine devoted primarily to ballet and is available through amazon.com) The music was composed by Morton Gould and is exquisitely suitable for this setting. The choreography is wonderfully done by Agnes De Mille. This video was produced in Denmark, and they did a great job with every aspect of it, from the set design to the music. I have been told by some cast members that in their free time, some of the dancers visited the Royal Danish Ballet School to learn a little of the famous Danish ballet technique, and this has added to DTH's wealth of ability. It is a pity that so little of DTH's repertoire is on video, so this is an important addition.
