Listen to my review of Radio

From time to time we feel with evident relief, that fortunately not all film makers bet for break necks, breathtaking car chases, burning streets, flying corpses or extreme violence as a tenet to get audience and a brief fame.
This script falls apart these common places to tell a story; a poignant portrait of a weak man who is connected to the outside world through this device.
A penetrating and captivating story that it will you make think about the life' s values. Ed Harris and Cuba Gooding Jr. make top-notch performances.

Yellow Submarine - movie DVD cover picture
We all love The Yellow Submarine, The Yellow Submarine.

First of all, let me just say to a particular person who wrote a 1-star review: If you think the Backstreet Boys have more talent than the BEATLES (?!) than I think YOU are the one who's high. The Backstreet Boys are terrible and they don't even write their own songs OR play their own instruments! The Beatles had four very talented and creative minds, which is more than I can say for most of the "boy bands" of today.
ANYWAY...about the movie...VERY entertaining and humorous (one of my favorite parts is when the Beatles are walking down a long hallway opening door after door, and they walk in on George meditating). Clever, original, and lots of fun to watch. I'm only 14 but I have been brought up with the Beatles being a huge part of my life (my dad is a massive fan) and I LOVE them. I think they have to be the absolute best band there ever was. The movie is definately worthwhile to watch, and even to buy. I'm getting it for my Dad for Christmas and it is a great gift for anyone who is a Beatles fan, even if you yourself aren't. This is my second favorite Beatles movie. The Point is my very favorite, but this one is awfully close. It is so INCREDIBLY creative. I definately give it 5 stars!

I Don't Want To Know the People Who Don't LOVE this Movie!

I was never a major Bill Murray fan -- I associated him with that awful "Saturday Night Live." I somehow always thought "Groundhog Day" was a dopey sort of movie -- maybe because of its title.
One day back in September, it was playing in the video store while I was browsing for something worthy to take home. I didn't even look at the screen -- just after hearing two or so minutes of the dialogue, I snatched it off the shelf and marched to the counter.
I am not ashamed to admit I saw this wonderful, charming, delightful, charming, endearing, CHARMING (yes, I wrote "charming" three times, because that is the overriding adjective that describes it) movie about 50 times that September, and I would say it ranks as perhaps one of my 20 favorite films of all time. (And I'm not young, and I've seen a fair amount of movies.)
If CHARMING appeals to you, and you haven't seen this movie, well, what the heck are you waiting for, GO GET IT!

Left Luggage - movie DVD cover picture
"I am a donut"

Yes, for me, that was the key line in the film when Maximillian Shell referred to when JFK said those historic words "Ich bin ein Berliner," he was actually saying, "I am a donut" in German. People excused JFK's malaprop rather than mock him, because they knew what was in his heart.

One needs to look deeper into people, before making quick judgments.

This film captures that, using charming Chaya's (Laura Fraser) coming of age journey, as a young Jewish woman living a life with little real meaning or direction, until she happens upon a deeper understanding of who she is, through finding deeper meanings in others. The film shows how people may try to run from who they really are, but sooner or later they must confront it, if they are to mature.

The transformation of Chaya begins when accepting a job as a nanny to a Chassidic family.

Happiness, tragedy, and imperfect people all serve to find that deeper understanding for Chaya. It are dramatic words from the wonderful Isabella Rossellini, as the Chassidic mom, to Chaya, as a "daughter of Israel," which signals the completion of the transformation.

Yes, the film's title, and Chaya's dad's (Maximillian Shell) search for what was left in the past, has symbolic meaning. It, the musical score, and every character in "Left Luggage" contributes, in this heart wrenching mosaic of a film. It left me interested in every character in the film, even the concierge. Though all actors were marvelous, the film just wouldn't have worked, if Laura Fraser hadn't pulled off her role so well.

"They shot Cyyyyrussss...."

"The Warriors" is a fantasy film. If you try to judge it in relation to the real world, you're wasting your time. It takes place in an alternate universe. In this world, street gangs don't traffic in drugs, they only fight against each other and never target innocent civilians, and they wear colorful costumes like in "A Clockwork Orange". They also fight with knives and chains rather than AK-47s. You know early on the David Patrick Kelly is the villian, because he uses a handgun, a clear violation of the gangbangers' civilaric code.

If you accept this alternate reality, "The Warriors" is a great adventure movie. In my opinion it the best film that Walter Hill ever made. I love the various street gangs which include:

The Thermal ACs, who are skinheads, but not racist, since they also have black members.

The Furies, who dress up like baseball players with clown makeup.

The Riffs, who seem to pattern themselves after Jim Kelly from "Enter The Dragon".

An unnamed gang who dress in the style of 70s roller disco (not really scary; rollerskates are definately something you don't want to be wearing during a rumble).

The Orphans, a gang of losers who want respect but are too chicken to earn it.

The Lizzies, and gang of man-hating lesbians who pretend to be loose in order to lead male gang-members to their doom (think Homer's "The Odyssey").

The Rogues, who are led by a sadistic psychopath (who also has the best lines in the entire movie, including the classic, "warriors, come out to play...!"

I love this movie, having seen it in my youth numerous times at the midnight movies, and I would highly recommend it to anyone who loves non-stop action and laughs. Five stars.
