Some of the Best Andromeda Episodes!

Finally, some of the best Andromeda episodes come out on DVD! "Pearls" features some great interactions between Beka and Trance, as well as the always-good John DeLancie as Uncle Sid. "Mathematics of Tears" has THE best fight scene in all of Season 1. No spoilers, but the entire thing is choreographed to an aria from "The Flying Dutchman" by Wagner. "Distant Drum" sets the stage for Tyr's big secret which will be crucial later. Not that great of an episode, but anything that features Tyr is all right by me. "Harper 2.0" is a romp, but shows us the serious side of the normally light-hearted engineer. Harper winds up gaining all of the knowledge of the universe, but someone is after it. Enjoy them all!

Sleepy Hollow - movie DVD cover picture
I'm so certain of everything

"Sleepy Hollow" is without a doubt one of the best pieces of work Tim Burton has contributed to American Cinema. No horror fans should miss it. Burton takes scary movies to a whole new level, weaving his own morsels of fantasy, detail, and mystery into the story. His movie is based upon Washington Irving's classic tale, "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow." I cannot go without voicing the undeniable statement that Burton butchers the original story as many times as the the villain, the Headless Horseman, chops off his victims' heads. But that's alright. Irving's story, while considered a classic by some, is too short and too childish to be made into a full-length horror film. The only thing that stays the same between the book and the movie is the setting, which is the small village of Sleepy Hollow during the late 1790's, and the characters. There is Ichabod Crane (Johnny Depp), a New York City constable who is sent to Sleepy Hollow to investigate three murders with his new scientific detection processes. While in Sleepy Hollow, he resides as a guest in the home of Baltus Van Tassel (Michael Gambon), the richest and most poular man in the village, now that one of his wealthy relatives is among the three deceased. Also living in the house is Lady Van Tassel, played wonderfully by Miranda Richardson, and Baltus's beautiful daughter, Katrina (Christina Ricci). It is not very long before Ichabod realizes mysterious things about Sleepy Hollow, which all happen to be Burton's superb additions to the story, my favorite of which being the Tree of the Dead, which has vibrantly red blood in place of sap. He also notices Katrina's secret practice of magic, which he is accustomed to because of past events revolving around his mother and father. He also begins to realize, with us by his side, that the things the town has told him about the Headless Horseman are true, and that another villain, with much more power than the Horseman, could be lurking amonst the villagers.I do have to mention the gore factor in this movie. The second time I saw it, I numbered the body count, and I found about 18 deaths, not counting a flashback centering around a war-like situation in which others are killed but are shadowed or hidden behind other people. Out of those 18 deaths, 15 of them resulted in beheading, and we either see the heads being chopped off, rolling away, or the inside of the person's neck for 13 or 14 of those characters. However, if you do not like gore, you can still watch. I'm not trying to be inhumane, but the simple fact runs that once you see the first two decapitations, you get used to the sight and it doesn't bother you anymore after that. The gore isn't there to scare like it is in most films; it's only there because it has to be.If you ever get an opportunity to watch this movie, make sure you do so. Better yet, buy it. It is definitely worth your time and money. Even if you don't like scary movies, close your eyes when you want and watch the rest just to see the beautiful scenery, because this is the most gorgeous eye-candy to be made yet. It is one of my favorite horror films, even better that "Rosemary's Baby," "Final Destination," and "The Exorcist."You will not be disapointed.

The Coolest Movie Of The Year

The thing about bond is, you love them or you hate them. In my case, I love them(everyone of them). Pierce Brosnan is great as aways, Halle Berry is beautiful, her acting dosen't even come close to Sophie Marceau(The World Is Not Enough). Forget xXx, forget any other action that came out this year, because Die Another Day takes the cake.

Amazing Cinematography and Worth Viewing More Than Once

Having become a recent fan of Asian cinema (one of my favorites being 3 SEASONS), I found this movie, from its outset, to draw me into the world of Shanghi, China during the 1930s. Created with precision and stunning decor both interior and exterior, the director has crafted the story of a boy who comes to the city to work as a servant for a mafia boss's "Miss." The story progresses over a week's time and is evenly paced. It's strength is found in each scene, which maintained my interest with the careful brilliance and awe of each shot, and the obvious abilities of the film's actors/actress. Highly recommended, especially to the film buff who is looking for a story/visual film that goes beneath the surface.
This movie should be in any collection of great films.

Spider-Man (2003) - I Loved it. It works for me.

I've been reading the negative comments on Amazon and I'm quite perplexed. I loved the show and understood what the producers were trying to do and the limitations of the computer generated animation. Re-interpreting Spider-Man is the right thing to do for any creator. I think they did a great job here and I didn't object to any of the changes - they all worked great for me. I'd compare it to what has been done to Superman on Smallville. It seems a bit odd that we'll suspend disbelief for so many unbelievable things but not a quick costume change. As far as Aunt May not being a central figure, I can see why she has been omitted so far. Her inclusion would slow down the story telling pace. Aunt May's picture - with Uncle Ben is shown in at least one episode where Peter is contemplating his family ties. I think the plots and characters were properly developed and the whole new universe made sense and was a logical extension of the Spider-Man lore that has been estbalished for 40+ years. I liked Spider-Man: Chapter One, and the Ultimate Spider-Man comic books too. This series is trying to capture the spirit of these two re-inventions of Spider-Man. They did great. The voice actors were perfect too. Stop your lusting for Tank Girl and Jessica Rabbit. The computer generated babes on Spider-Man 2003 are totally hot. I'm buying this DVD. The negative reviews can be disregarded. They just don't get the point. I like box sets and I want to encourage their creation by buying the good ones. This set was mastered in High-Definition and is a good demo for your HDTV system. Shows are in Anamorphic 16x9 widescreen and there is also DTS sound. The episodes are also presented in chronological order rather than MTV broadcast date order, so the story lines of the episodes blend better.

Epic Landmark

I must admit that I was intimidated by "Intolerance" before sitting down to watch it. I knew it was an early silent movie (1916) consisting of four different stories. I knew that the three hour running time would be spent intercutting between these four stories. Would I be able to keep up with all four stories? Would I be able to tell the different characters apart in the grainy black and white (with color-tinting)?
After watching it, I have a whole new appreciation for D.W. Griffith. Yes, I was able to tell the characters apart, and yes, I was able to keep up with all the storylines. This film was a giant leap forward in filmmaking from Griffith's previous film, "The Birth of a Nation." The most impressive story of the film is the fall of Babylon. The sets were magnificent, and the battle scenes were spectacular. Constance Talmadge was wonderful as the Mountain Girl. The modern story was entertaining and moving. The French and Judean stories were very underdeveloped, but that really didn't bother me.
Anyone with an interest in silent movies or film history must see this film.
