LOVED IT!

Plays like a 10 hour long version of Saving Private Ryan, but with better characters. This was the first time I have ever gotten totally engrossed in a mini-series. Band of Brothers is as stellar of a production as most top notch films, and the long running time of this DVD collection goes by in a blink. I truly wished there was more, I didn't want it to end! Luckily, the set is packed with amazing special features, including documentaries, a WWII timeline, maps, soldier bios, etc...tons of good stuff. If you watched Band of Brothers when on HBO, and enjoyed it, this is a must buy. It should also be in anyones collection that is a fan of history, war movies, or just plain good filmaking.

NEW CASTLE, PA GET OFF YOUR HIGH HORSE

These films are not worth the plastic that they are packaged in...and, these five star ratings that I'm reading just baffle me. Are gay men so desperate for gay films that we're willing to pander such bunk to unsuspecting viewers? I try to view as many gay films as possible, as I feel that I owe it to those who felt the need to represent me and my fellow gay men in some way, shape or form. But, I surely won't praise or recommend a film simply because it is gay. I've never seen a film so over-estimated in my life. I've seen five star gay films...Angels in America, Soldier's Girl, Beautiful Thing. Murder in Portland SURELY isn't one of them.
I read a review that praised this film for what they were able to do with such a small budget($50,000). But there simply is not a point in the film where it isn't apparent that the budget was miniscule. The camera shots are sloppy. The acting is rank. The sound is of poor quality. And, I've read better scripts from my undergrad screenwriting students. Just because the producers of this film may have done more with it than the small budget would typically allow doesn't make this film good or worth watching. And...if the script was good and the actor's better than VERY SUB-PAR, would it really matter what the budget was?
As many have indicated, the lead "cop" was hot. I found him beautiful...but I can flip through any magazine or watch thousands of other good films and be much happier for it. A hot actor does not a movie make.
I crave good gay entertainment. We are a very misrepresented population in the big screen and the small screen. I praise actors and directors with the courage and gall to make their voices heard and produce gay work. But, gay or not, I'm not going to recommend this film simply because it is gay. We deserve better than that...and recommending it for it's sexual bent would only perpetuate mediocrity in a medium that has potential for so much more.

Quantum Leap First Season in DVD

According to Project Quantum Leap, they called Deborah Pratt and asked about the QL DVDs... aparently, Universal is already working in these DVDs, so, probably they would see the light of day in 2004 (maybe the first quarter).

G- Force Uncut

This was one of the more interesting "English dubbed" anime series that I watched when I was a kid (early 90's in the Philippines), along with Robotech. I was surprised to see that the show was originally produced and aired in the 1970's and yet was exciting enough for my generation. Like most anime, it never flinched when it came to violence and portrayals of human frailty. Sadly the thing that made it so interesting for me was not seen by many American kids who grew up watching its toned down "Americanized Version". This DVD restores the original glory of the series without the dumbing effect of the shortened version (Battle of the Planets). First the heroes in the uncut series protect the Earth and not the Galaxy. Second the names sound better (Galactor instead of Zoltar). Third the silly robot from the Americanized Version does not exist. And lastly it focuses on the humanity of the heroes.

Very Good Movie and Love Story.

This movie is a calssic movie, which shows you a love story between a pilot and a girl. It's a classic (and one of the most famous) Tom Cruise's film.
It's so popular movie, that there's also a parodic movie about that...
If you haven't seen it yet, run to buy it!

Mr. Magoo's Christmas Carol - movie DVD cover picture
OH, MAGOO! YOU'VE DONE IT AGAIN!

Charles Dickens knew what he was doing a century before Alice Miller came on the scene when he wrote the Elder Scrooge weeping in sympathy for his Past Self as an abandoned child. So far, this is the ONLY version I've seen of "A Christmas Carol" that includes that first crucial moment of Scrooge's healing process. (In seeing the other versions, we've come to believe he was guilted or scared into changing -- but without recovering empathy for his own childhood plight, he never could have done it, as Dickens was instinctively aware!)As a child, I got the message directly in my heart and soul, which is what this wonderful program does best. The songs/lyrics are fantastic: a live stage version could easily be performed based on the music. I've seen many versions of "Carol" over the years, and this one touches me more than any of them for many reasons, but most of all, because it emphasizes that child abandonment is often the first step in creating unhappy adults like Ebenezer Scrooge.

Home Fries

Home Fries is a great movie about a young women, Sally, played by Drew Barrymore, who is just trying to find a father for her unborn baby. The real father died of a mysterious heart attack. The man she finds, Dorian, played by Luke Wilson, played a mayjor part in the real fathers death.
Drew Barrymore and Luke Wilson had great chemistry on camera. I recomend this movie to fans of either Drew, Luke, and comedic romance movies. It has a great plot, is funny, romantic, and keeps you wondering what will happen next.

Underworld Uncut - It's the extras that are worth the price

Underworld - you either love it or you hate it. No one seems to be on the fence. I am a die hard Joss Whedon - Angel and Buffy the Vampire Slayer fan. But I have to admit, I loved this movie. I loved the dark world setting, the powerful music, the movie's pacing, and the plot twists at the end. Having said that, I did have to adjust to this new vampire and werewolf univerise that the director and his team had created. Werewolves running along the walls and being easily killed by vampires - not too believable. The bullets of silver nitrate and sunlight were. I thought Seline as the conflicted werewolf hunter was very believable. However, our doctor hero seemed a wimpy hostage until he went through the transformation at the end. If you love the commentary on the original DVD, then stay with that one. If you are a DVD collector and want to have the entire series (since the sequel comes out in December), then get the unrated new version, too. The funny outtakes, featurettes and comic book are worth adding to your collection.
