Kubrick's best

This movie about a bunch of white gangsters is probably the only one that was out in the 70's. Stanley Kubrick was well known after writing this masterpiece. I can't compare this movie to any other because there are no movies about futuristic gangsters. Its just amazing. A story about a boy who has a violent head and still appreciates the art of music like mozart and beethoven. Then getting caught commiting a crime, going to jail and then totally turning from evil to good... then he goes through another process again from going from good to evil. Its very interesting.

An excellent show

Forget about the episode guide. As long as it's functionable, it's fine. Besides, you aren't going to watching the episode guide the whole time anyway. This is a great show and will be proud to own it.

JUDY HARLAND`S FIRST MIRACLE FILM

Judy Garland(1922-1969)(Frances Ethel Gumm) remains the greatest entertainer of the 20th century. And THIS film is the one that m a d e her. Unlike most vehicles, the ones with Judy stands the passing of the years. She is more than ever - a great artist - whose appeal never seem to diminish. The film THE WIZARD OF OZ 1939 is also a master- piece, produced by the greatest studio of the golden age, METRO-GOLDWYN-MAYER. I`ll give flower- greetings to the crew and cast. It`s an all-time
classic...

HACK HACK HACK HACK!!!!

This movie is great if you're into tons of hackenslash madness (which coincidentally I am). The fighting kind of reminded me of a really bloody crouching tiger hidden dragon. Tons of back flips in the air and hacking arrows with swords and all that unimaginabley cool stuff. The animation is really really good considering that it was made in 1989 but compared to ninja scroll and Princess monononke it's kind of dated.(It is better than MD Geist) The dubbing is good and the weapons they have are unique and sweet.Overall you should definitely buy this DVD.

One of the Greatest Movies of All Time

Dear Amazonians,
When I first viewed Terminator 2: Judgement Day in the theater, I was blown away. Since I got the Ultimate Edition of this DVD about three years ago, every time I watched it, I got the same thrill as I got the first time I witnessed not only one of the best action thrillers of all time, but on of the best dramas of all time.
Many viewers have referred to this movie as an action movie, but I consider it to be something much more, a drama. This story of a young boy (John Connor), who befriends a machine from the future sent back to protect him from a ruthless ultra-advanced Terminator as he grows older, is very personal. The movie is violent, but goes beyond pure violence and noise for "shock value," and presents something truly special. I continue to watch Terminator 2 with the same passion and interest as I expressed when I saw the original release. And, the Ultimate Edition goes even further, putting footage that was never seen ino the feature. Now, the story makes even more sense as you see how Sarah Connor struggles with the will to destroy John's protector, while John displays some of the traits that he will need as the future leader of the human resistance.
I very strongly recommend the purchase of this DVD. You will not be disappointed by its appeal.
Take care, as Always,
--Daniel

the stickup

THE STICKUP is another of those little films that is destined to perform better once released to the general audience who frequent the video outlets than in the craze-oriented movie house venues. This is a quiet little who-dunnit that keeps you on the edge of your favorite chair to the end. The story seems like a straight forward bank holdup by a good cop gone bad, until gradually every detail of the case in question is expertly exposed and each of the players is spotlighted to be revealed as to who they really are. James Spader continues to grow as an actor and does particularly well in holding our attention thru the many avenues of flashback in this story. The remainder of the cast is excellent (especially the fine and beautiful Lesley Stefanson). Relax, folks, this is a story to take you away from your daily routine and, as such, begs you to indulge your need to spin off on cinematic diversions. Recommended.

Personal Best -robthenob@hotmail.com

In 1995 I was up in Scotland with five of my best friends whom had literally come from the four corners of the earth for the occasion. We travelled around the beautiful country, camping where we could and generally enjoying our freedom and youth. One particular spot that we stayed at was on the North West coast of Scotland, on a small, remote peninsula next to a white sanded beach with a view towards the Isles of Muck and Rum. After being there for a couple of days, we were told by a passing local that the beach was the very one that Local Hero was filmed on, and the peninsula where we had been camped for the past two days is where the church in the film was situated (it was apparently a set, made around an old house that still exists). At this point I had not seen the movie but knew the soundtrack by Mark Knopfler very well. The holiday I had that year was without a doubt one of the best I've ever had. Two years later on returning to NZ, I watched Local Hero with tears in my eyes, I couldn't believe that my favourite place in all the world was captured on an exceptionally beautiful, quirky, strangely romantic, and intelligent film. Overall I think that the general gist of the film is one of awakening our senses to the simple things in life, just like MacIntyre did on arriving at that small coastal village. We all need, at some point in our lives, to escape the hum-drum of every day life and awaken ourselves to the real life outside of our own. It is a wonderful, gentle film that will always be a part of me. P.S. I have omitted the exact name and location so that it is not overrun with tourists, but if you really want to know, send me an E-mail.

Shakespeare in Love - movie DVD cover picture
Bravo!

Coincidentally, I saw this film and then Elizabeth on consecutive evenings when they both were released in 1998. In the years since, I have not changed several initial reactions which serve as an introduction to this brief commentary. Here are three. First, both deserve all the praise they have received. Second, this film is far more entertaining but that Elizabeth has greater dramatic impact. And finally, then and now, I think Saving Private Ryan should have received the Academy Award that year which was presented to Shakespeare in Love.
The basic situation is that young Shakespeare (Joseph Fiennes) is struggling to overcome writer's block at the worst possible time, given his financial situation and (worst yet) the near-bankrupt status of "The Rose" theatre in which his plays are performed. The owner, Phillip Henslowe (Geoffrey Rush), is hounded by especially nasty and persistent creditors. Meanwhile, Viola De Lesseps (Gwyneth Paltrow) has been informed by her father that she will marry Lord Wessex (Colin Firth) and live in Virginia. Viola has a strong attraction to the stage at a time when all parts were played by men and boys. She also feels an attraction to Shakespeare whose work she admires.
He finally begins to write "Romeo and Ethel, the Pirate's Daughter." Disguised as a young man, Viola is selected to play Romeo. (Believe it or not, no one recognizes her.) Meanwhile, she (as Viola) and Shakespeare have fallen in love and also feel increasing desperation as her marriage to Wessex approaches. After all manner of complications, the play is finally performed, with Queen Elizabeth (Judi Dench) in the audience. And then....
This is a thoroughly entertaining film which captures not only the "look" but the "feel" of the London theatre world during the Elizabethan era. Under John Madden's direction, the acting is first-rate. Paltrow and Dench received Academy Awards as did those responsible for best original screenplay, art and set decoration, and costume design. It really does seem as if we are there in London, walking through its lively and colorful streets, stopping occasionally for a lubricated conversation with Shakespeare, Henslowe, Richard Burbage or Christopher Marlowe. I especially enjoyed observing rehearsals and then the performance of "Romeo and Ethel" in the authentically recreated theatre.
Great fun!
