If you like lord of the rings see this film!! As a child of the Dungeons and Dragons era, I found this film fascinating. In all honesty this film combines the Middle earth/D and D genre with a hybrid form story of Star Wars..
It follows the good vs evil concept, love vs hate, and a quest for an object, the glaive. Of course, this film had the potential to be great, I would not classify it as a "classic" , Many sci/fi fantasy freaks would enjoy it for the D and D / Lord of the rings type of film. More emphasis should have been paid to the " Glaive". As was mentioned in the film, the glaive was supposed to be weapon of enourmous power, however it was not used enough. Secondly, the quest to obtain the glaive was far too easy, perhaps a creature in the mountain to guard the glaive and to battle the prince...
The use of magic is quite evident in the film including shape shifting and changing into animals,,. Of course if you see the film, the slayers will immediatley lead you to think of the star wars stormtroopers and their lazer rifles...
Once again those of you who are in the sci/fi/fantasy genre who are into the lord of the rings will most certainly enjoy this film, now with the new enhancements on DVD, this film is most definatley worthy of 3 and half stars from a pure movie point of view....

Is it possible to only give this movie 5 stars?

I first laid eyes on Gene Kelly in Cover Girls, and then subsequently went and saw every one of his movies! Singin' in the Rain is certainly Kellys greatest picture; his suave, charming, lovable Don Lamont is enough to make any girl swoon! Donald O'Connor is comic genius and Debbie Reynolds is perfect in her first picture as the innocent but spunky object of Kelly's affection. The songs are all great, it is really hard to pick a favorite! But the crown jewel in this extraordinary film is Kelly's title song and dance. Kelly is phenomenal, and who doesn't want to be like him - just sublimely happy to be alive. This picture is great, a classic; a great film, and a wonderful showcase of Gene Kelly's abundant talents! 5 stars don't cut it with Singin' in the Rain! END

Better than Wing

Gundam SEED is the Deepest of all the gundam's i've seen to date, It has a slow plot but once one sees all of it you knowtice that it's a very well done plot with a solid backround. The slower over all plot allows the relationships between the wonderfuly designed charaters to grow in many ways, and finaly the mech battles rock

The greatest movies ever made!

I know a lot of people have said that, but in this case I really have to agree. These movies have been my all time favorites for about four years now, when I first saw them. I've had a lot of favorite movies in the past, but none of them did Star Wars justice in terms of characters, story and music.
I'm not going to go on about the plots because most of you already know them. But I have to say, unlike many of you, I was glad this was re-released because I never owned the widescreen versions of these but now I realize they are visually better than the standard format.
Like many of you though, I do wish they would release this on DVD but it didn't really matter to me at the time because I hadn't owned a DVD player when they were released but now that I have one I will count the days until it's released on DVD.
As for the Episode II stuff, it wasn't really worth the wait but it had it's moments, especially with the anecdote of Anthony Daniels talking about what it would be like if C-3PO found out Darth Vader was his father.
Anyway, great movies, great release, it's just great. 10/10

The Eagle

I am a very big Rudolph Valentino fan. I love this movie. He just couldn't get any better than in this movie. The part with the Empress is the best. The look on his face is fabulous. I have seen just about all of Rudy's movies and this ranks as my second favorite. The first is Son of the Sheik. Vilma Banky was a beautiful star and was very good in this movie also.

I Love Season 5!

This is one of the best (definitely top three) seasons of I LOVE LUCY. The Ricardos and the Mertzes wrap up their trip to Hollywood and embark on a whirlwind trip to Europe.

With one week left in Tinseltown, Lucy can't resist taking home a souvenir to end all souvenirs - John Wayne's footprints! It's the hilarious two-part adventure, "Lucy Visits Grauman's" and "Lucy and John Wayne." On the train trip home, Lucy tangles with a jewel thief - and discovers the emergency stop cord really does actually stop the train - repeatedly - in "The Great Train Robbery." After a brief respite at home, Ricky, Lucy, Ethel and Fred head for an exciting tour of Europe - a transatlantic odyssey that starts with Lucy missing the boat ("Bon Voyage"), continues with a madcap romp across the British countryside ("The Fox Hunt"), gets a touch of star power in Paris ("Lucy Meets Charles Boyer"), and culminates in Lucy's classic, hilarious confrontation with a fellow female winemaker inside a vat of grapes ("Lucy's Italian Movie").

It's the fantastic fifth season - all 26 HILARIOUS episodes from the 1955-56 season - of I Love Lucy, starring the world's favorite comedic redhead!

Not your typical Hollywood Fare

This is a cool film. I caught it when it played in Silverlake. The characters are so funny. The story is completely over the top. I was so happy to see something other than the typical Hollywood formula film.
The photography is awesome. And the makeup is cool too. My favorite scene is with the blow-up doll with Morrissey's photo taped on it. I'm a Moz fan, but at least I can be proud that I'm not as far gone as Jackie. She is a riot.
If you want to see an example of good storytelling and filmmaking that dares to step outside the box you should see this film.

Run Silent, Run Deep - movie DVD cover picture
Poor Adaptation, Great Movie

Other than the title, the setting, and the names of some characters, this movie really doesn't have that much in common with Edward L. Beach's novel. That's really too bad, because a proper filming of the novel might have made for an even better movie. Despite that, this film rightly ranks as one of the best submarine films ever. The screen writers came up with their own story, very loosely based on some plot lines from the novel, and then added a lot of dramatic action for Clark Gable and Burt Lancaster.

The supporting cast is great. Don Rickles does a nice job as the quartermaster, and Jack Warden is his usual reliable self as Gable's yeoman. As usual in these old films, a fair amount of stock footage is employed, and the "Japanese" destroyers are obviously really American ships, but the sets are as authentic as the producers could make them. The Navy was scrapping a lot of older subs in the late 1950's and the studio got their hands on a lot of real equipment and used it for set dressing.

Good movies are mostly about people. Machines and weapons are really background. It's how the people interact that makes a film truly great. You get that here. Even with most of Beach's story tossed out, Run Silent, Run Deep is still a classic movie and stands up very nicely on its own.

An Absolute Must Have

Just read the names of the folks in this dvd. That alone got me this dvd. I don't know about everyone else, but my image of Louis Armstrong has been an older man, sort of laid back. I've heard alot of his recordings from his earlier years, but never had much of image to fix to him in his younger years. He's still the allmighty "Satchmo", full of youth and going wild. His stance while playing is like he's telling the world... "Yes.... indeed I am the allmighty Satchmo". The dude is awsome. And Cab Callaway.... the boy goes wild with his hair flying and singing. I've never seen him in any films, except the Blues Brothers. Again it's good to see him as well as "Satchmo" in their youthful wild and rowdy days.I could go on and on. Again just look at the names featured on this dvd. It just don't get no better. Do yourself a favor and get this dvd.
